Lack of hard files

Hello.  I have an open with VMware support ticket: 15834814212

I was doing some maintenance systematics host so I was using vMotion to evacuate VMs.  I had an error on a particular host:

Migrate the virtual machine GVMon couldn't wait for data. Error 195887167. Connection closed by remote host, probably due to delay.

Most of the information of the error indicates a problem with vMotion network, but because the other VMS migrate without problems, I decided it wasn't the cause.

I turned off the virtual machine and was able to move it to another host.  However, when it turn, I got this error:

Power on machine virtual GVMon file GVvCenter_2.vmdk was not found.

Of course, when you browse the data store, this file does not exist.

Support said that the file disappeared for a few weeks, crazy that the VM continued to run.  They do not have to explain why it happened.  None of the orphaned objects were found and all troubleshooting points for everything to be OK.  I am told the file descriptor hard must be re-created, but this would require a UUID that is not available because the file descriptor hard is not accessible.  Catch 22!

Any ideas?  Thank you, Zach.

Support to return the hard file and the virtual machine works as usual.  Thanks, Brian, of Ireland.

I managed to retrieve the UUID of the disc of the registers of the vmware virtual machine:

-vmware - 1.log:2015 - 11-10 T 13: 24:36.609Z | VMX | I120: DISKLIB-VMFS: 'vsan://f5c26155-5e58-a555-bc8d-ecf4bbcfca10': open with success (21) size = 75161927680, hd = 0. Type 3
-vmware - 1.log:2015 - 11-10 T 13: 24:36.612Z | VMX | I120: DISKLIB-VMFS: 'vsan://f5c26155-5e58-a555-bc8d-ecf4bbcfca10': closed.

We have clarified that it was the correct UUID with the next and associates of exit command:

/ usr/lib/VMware/osfs/bin/objtool u f5c26155-5e58-a555-bc8d-ecf4bbcfca10 getAttr

Attributes of the object:

Then, we created a VM temp and copied the temp.vmdk in the directory of the virtual machine.

I edited the newly created GVvCenter_2.vmdk so that it contained the following:

# Description of the measure

RW 146800640 VMFS "vsan://f5c26155-5e58-a555-bc8d-ecf4bbcfca10."

The RW was calculated by dividing the above (75161927680) size of 512

I got the VMID from the virtual machine by running:

Vim - cmd vmsvc/getallvms

Then reloaded the .vmx file by running:

Vim - cmd vmsvc/reload

  • 'Lack of installation files' then install LabVIEW 2014 (Win7-64 on a VMWare system)

    Hello

I try to install LabVIEW 2014 on a VMWare Windows 7 - 64-bit environment, with no luck.

3-DVD installation media has been downloaded from NI.com, the release of August 2014 of the Site license academic (ASL), which my company is a regular subscriber, a very long time.

(Interestingly enough, this same virtual system has fonctionnee LV 2012 without any problem whatsoever)

Here are the steps I followed:

    -unzip the 3 iso files on separate directories on drive virtual, principal of this system;

-Run setup.exe on the first directory (IE one that contains 1 DVD files)

-Enter the serial number of the FSA

-l' Installer leaves just selected default English 2014 LabVIEW and the Manager of Package of VI, so I expand the ASL Core Software to add NIDAQmx 2014, and I also selects the device drivers OR - August 2014

-J' I accept different license agreements

-I select "I am not the end user" to postpone activation

Setup continues but almost immediately alerts telling me that it was impossible to install "NI Customer Experience Improvement Program", Yes , I want to keep and then I see a system dialog box display of files/paths that do not actually exist on the directory DVD 1, hence the obvious error 'lack the installation files"message. If I ignore this message, several other similar dialog boxes appear.

Either by the way, I've done various research, but, right now, apparently not a popular question at all.

    Any advice?

    Problem solved.

For some weird reason, WinRAR do NOT extract some files from the first archive .iso (but more importantly, she also didn't show absolutely no error message, leading me to believe everything was fine).

When any further inspection, I found about it and made extraction .iso process everything again and this time to the installation program completed without fault.

  • hard files not detected by client vsphere

    Hello

I have a recent issue of copy a virtual machine of a death to a new server, I copied the directory server on a USB key via the vsphere client

and then restored to the new server, he sees the .vmx file and it recognizes very well as well as all the .log files, but all other files appear empty

If I try to add the .vmx to inventory it shows as unreachable, if I try to add the .vdmk to another virtual machine when I browse the datastore folder, nothing only shows her also if the host esxi does not know these hard files please see attachment for screenshot, you will notice that the hard does not appear with the usual icon other .vm that I wasn't using snapshots , someone has seen this and anyone know how I could get this hard to be seen by esxi

Both files were slightly damaged. The first line was missing a few bytes, and there were a few binary zeros at the end of the file. Please find the fixed files in the attachment. Once downloaded to the data store, then you should see the file hard (without 'flat'), but with the sizes of flat files.

  • creation of multpile vitual machines with a hard file.

In fact I am facing problems create multiple virtual machines with the hard file.

I downloaded the file hard on the data store and created a virtual machine with this file and create another virtual machine with the same file. Is this possible or do I have to download the file again and create the virtual machine. ??

    Thank you.

You would use this option to export a whole VM, and then import it later.

Therefore, you must create a basic VM with whom. VMDK attached to it and then export it. You can then import several times with a new name and customize as needed from there.

  • Try to add the hard file to the inventory, but can not see the file

I am trying to add a hard file that someone gave me to my inventory.  I have already downloaded the file of the VM containing the hard file in my data store.  Now, I want to have it in my inventory.  I tried to add a new virtual machine, go to the custom configuration, and then when I get to "Select a disk", I take the "use an existing virtual disk".  I sail in my data store and to see the folder of the virtual machine, but inside there is nothing! There is no hard file, but I know that it IS when I just browse the data of the Summary tab store.  What is going on?  Thank you.

If you have an OVF, open the vSphere Client and select "Import" in the "File" menu to import the OVF. This should create a complete virtual machine for you.

  • Converter to create several hard files

    Hello-

I use VMware vCenter Converter to convert a physical box in a virtual machine. On some boxes, it seems that the converter creates 2 file hard a filename.vmdx and another which is the name of file - 0.vmdk. Why is it that and y at - it a way to create a single hard file, so we can convert?

    Thank you-

    Tommy

This can happen if you have several drives or partitions in your original system.

Can you provide a screenshot of disk in Windows Management, or output of the mount command if you have a physical source of Linux?

It is best to manage each partition as an individual disk, and therefore each partition (or drive letter) would have its own VMDK file.

If it's a windows system, could there be a "Recovery" Partition that could have been copied as well?

  • use a hard file as a shared disk between two vm

    Hi guys,.

I wanted to know if there is a possible way to create a hard file as a shared disk between two virtual machines.

    That's my idea:

I want to create a mscluster between two vm one before I need to a shared disk - I don't want to use the external storage, so I thought that maybe there is a way to use a file hard like a disk storage shared "external".

Is it possible to do this? If there is, I enjoy an explanation how to do that.

    Thank you very much

    Martin.

  • Install an existing machine: what hard file?

    Hello

I would like to install a virtual machine on my MacBook. I have the .vmware bundle hard disk (11FR all), but when I choose to "Install ramdisk existing", I am presented with not less than 44 different hard files. They vary in size between a few KB and a couple of Go - I guess it's the version "2 GB chunk" mentioned in the user guide - and all have the same "last modified" date on them.

Which to choose to install this virtual machine?

    Thanks for the tips

    Giles

If the virtual machine is an existing Fusion system, simply double-click on the virtual machine to open - file-by-file instead.

If you want to open it from the vmdk file, it is the one without number - something generally about 4 k in size. If you open this file in a text editor, you will see that it contains all the individual files that this VM need for power.

  • Can I convert the - file rdmp.vmdk to the hard file?

    Hi Experts,

The vmdk file is deleted, just so the - rdmp.vmdk file exist, how do I convert the - rdmp.vmdk file to the hard file?

Can I create a virtual machine and add the - rdmp.vmdk file directly?

    Thank you.

This file is simply the passthrough.  Delete, he should not remove the real disk.  You should be able to change the settings for the virtual machine, add the new drive, rdm, select physical mode and then choose your logical unit number.  Or, vmkfstools - z/vmfs/devices/drives / vmhbax:x:x:1 diskname.vmdk

    Hi Kenj,

This problem may occur if you perform a hardware important change to your computer, such as upgrading the hard disk. If a major hardware change requires activatingWindows once again, you will be notified and will have three days to activate your copy of windows.

Another common cause of failed Windows validation occurs when you try to install on more computers than your license allows. For example, if you have purchased a copy of windows, installed on the PC more than one online validation may fail because the product key has already been used on another computer. Normally, the rule for most windows copies is that only one copy of Windows can be installed on a PC. Go toMicrosoftVolume Licensingto learn what your license allows.

I suggest you refer to the suggestions provided by Andre Da Costa replied on 9 December 2012 in the following link and check out them.

  • I have 117 hard files - can I safely delete some?

Y at - it hurt to delete old files hard?

Physical disk space is assigned every time the guest OS writes to a new location. However, if files are deleted within the guest OS space is not automatically retrieved, and you will need to shrink / cleaning of the virtual disk manually. Please take a look at KB VMware: defragmentation, shrinkage and cleaning of disks of virtual machines VMware Fusion for more details. Also, make sure that you back up the files of the virtual machine before cleaning!

  • Cannot open the hard file. One of the disks in this virtual machine is already in use by a virtual machine or a snapshot

    Hi all

Tried my level best to solve, but still the same problem persists. . Lck tried but as soon close VMware workstation, it disappears. This problem starts when yesterday instead of powering down, suspended. The next resume when it gives captioned error. Tried creating new virtual machine using an existing vmdk file but my mainly all the data disappeared. Now I want to resume the suspended state. Kindly help on the same. Thank you

OK, we will first focus on the first virtual disk (System) on the D: drive which has enogh of disk space to create a clone.

The "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk" dated from 19/07/13 is probably exactly what we need, and if it has approximately the same size of file than current/changing, then you can replace the one changed with it. Once restored, proceed as follows (with VMware Workstation closed):

    from the command line run:

    cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation"
    cd /d D:\win2k3
    md Clone
    C:vmware-vdiskmanager.exe -r "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition-000002.vmdk" -t 0 "Clone\Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk"

Once the cloning done so, create a subfolder "Backup" and move all over existing files (as a backup). Copy the .vmx file and .vmxf the subdirectory "Backup" in the D:\win2k3 folder, then do the same with the file hard cloned since the 'Clone' subdirectory, so that you end up with the following files:

    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmx

    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmxf

    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk

Before you can try to start the virtual machine, you must edit the .vmx file and replace

    scsi0:0. FileName = "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition - 000002.vmdk"

    with

    scsi0:0. FileName = "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk"

Please do the above and report. If you have any questions please ask.

  • Retrieve information about the hard files

    Hi all

I'm looking for a way to display file of hard information, such as the last modified date and size of the file.

I already have a list of VMDK in the format according to [datastorename]\vmfolder\vm.vmdk

Is it possible, using cli power, to get information by feeding in the vmdk path in this format? In the end, seek to feed in a list of paths vmdk.

Hope that makes sense and thanks in advance!

This will work. It is not the fastest method, but it works with the data store provider PowerCLI.

An alternative would be to use the browser to store data and the SearchDatastoreSubFolders method.

But it's a little more cumbersome to use.

See my post to remove the old virtual machine monitor dump files for an example.
