  Yes, there is no reason why the drive is not recognized short a faulty drive or defective disc. Your statement in a previous reply that 'the player works with other drives' leads me to believe the former. Sometimes, the discs can be read by another CD/DVD drive. Maybe you can use another computer to copy the contents of the disk (s) on a USB stick and transfer data across like a folder or an ISO.

  I have a problem of Age of Empires 2 running on my new computer. Keeps displaying the following error message: "cannot initialize the graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw. "Someone at - it solutions to this? I have already visited many forums and trying different solutions; None of them helped.

  Tried solutions: change the compatibility and as an administrator, switching to 16-bit color, turn off my graphics card, execution of the extension "nostartup" of the game, looking for old patches from Microsoft (which most are now unavailable due to the game being so old). I KNOW that others have been able to get this game to work on the Windows 7 operating system, but with a few other quirks and I KNOW my video card and driver are more than capable of handling this game.   I had the above problem with AOEII:Age of the Kings. My brief spec is Windows 7 Ultimate edition (SP1) and a card nVidia 8600 GT. I did the following (make sure you reboot after each installation):

  Make sure that you are running the latest patch of AOEII:AOK (2. 0 a):

  Download and install the latest version of DirectX:

  Download and install the latest nVidia Driver suite. I left the autodetect my card software and reset all my default settings. I also installed the full software suite:

  Finally, right click on the shortcut of AOE and click Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and select the following:

  -Run this program in compatibility mode - choose Windows XP Service Pack 2 (!) NOT 3!)
  -Disable visual themes
  -Disable the Composition of the Bureau
  -Run this program as an administrator

  One of the above options maybe work on its own, but that's what I had to do to make it work and I tested it after each step.

  Step 1: Copy the game on the hard drive and install the game as administrator

  b. right-click on the game configuration file and click "Run as Administrator"
  c. follow the instructions in the wizard to install the game successfully.
   
  Step 2: Delete the contents of the temporary folder in Windows
  a. Click Start, type % temp % in the start search box and press ENTER.
  b. in the Organize menu, click Select all.
  c. in the Organize menu, click on delete.
  d. click Yes.
   
  Step 3: If the problem persists, try to install the game in a different folder or to a different drive
  a. start game installation.
  Note: Do not click on quick installation during installation.
  b. follow the setting menus until you see the button change.
  c. click on change.
  d. in the path box, delete the existing path, and then type the following text:

• age of empire III of the Chief error 1305 war

  I installed age of Empire III and he plays very well. I tried to install the extension supplied with the game war of chiefs. He gets 90% download then a # 1305 error "check files exist & I can access."  He wanted to go one further in the installation then cancels. I also got a 2nd error 1603 # «Fatal error during installation»

  How to solve this problem. I've NEVER played the war of Chiefs before and actually forgot that I still had it in the package. I played age of Empire III several times before.

• Standard user accounts not able to record in Age of Empires I & II

  Age of Empires I & II - game save issue in Windows 7

  Both my airports (I & II) have been freshly installed on Windows 7 (Professional 64 - bit) and when I play myself (Administrator account), then I can save the game at any time. It runs very well. Interestingly, standard users can start and play AOE as well, but their game won't save, as it appears the information on a disk (which is absurd) space. I put these files compatible with Win - XP SP2 program, gave all users of their execution as well as all write/change permissions administrator privileges. The "Savegame" folder is also where it is supposed to be (my saved games to sit there, after all). However, it did not help a bit the saving issue.

  Something tells me that the problem is the game itself, like so (I and II) have been developed by moments when Windows (95, 98, Me, etc.) intended for a single user by PC, but if I'm right, so in that case why not just me, but can other (standard) users run and play AOE, short to save?

  If someone had a similar problem - I will be grateful to share other ideas.

  have you looked at your temp folder? Under your user name check the temp folder, or simply do a search on *.tmp and delete all the files.

• Age Of Empires Online is angry a lot and NET. Framework does not

Framework.  If so I can't download it because it repeat it cannot install net framework 1, 2 and 3. I am able to install Net Framework 1 from the website itself.  If I download Windows Movie Maker, it says that it requires net framework 1, 2 and 3.  But it is impossible to install it. Anyway this happens to me on my computer and on my pro surface.  They have all two 8 Pro 64 - Bit Windows on them.

  The default value that .net included in windows 8 is 4.5. The old version of .net is not required.

  There might be some app run at startup which is your CPU of doping use.

  Launch the game mode of boot is a way to discover the faulty app to run at startup.
