• Lightroom syncing between laptop and desktop

  I did great, two-day studio shoot last week.

  I do most of my work on my desk and for the first time, I used a laptop for this shoot.

  I used an exteranl hard drive that I plugged into the laptop, and I kept my catalog and all my images on this external hard drive. I shot tethered in Lightroom. I did a bit of work to shoot, make a difference in the module development, cropping, and adding metadata.

  Now, I'm at home, I have my external HDD still plugged to my laptop and on my laptop, I've selected all my images and 'Save metadata to file' (command-S) so all my changes would transfer.

  A window appeared that said "one or more of these photos has changed in an external application. Need Lightroom overwrite settings on disk? "Then I have the ability to hit 'Cancel' or 'Settings Overwrite'."

  I'm confused by what I only modified these images in Lightroom. If I say 'Overwrite settings', I lose information? For example, each image was cut out, but I would like to be able to retain access to the full image, and I'm afraid if I hit override the settings that I will lose it.

  Am I crazy?

  He is a long-standing bug that seems to get better, but never completely disappear.  There is probably one or two images that LR "think" have been changed from somewhere outside the LR and when you select all the images, it's just to tell you that at least one is in this State.  Unfortunately there is no way I know to sort or isolate the images with potential conflicts of metadata automatically except in the browse the display of the grid looking for icons in conflict.

  I usually select less than all (e.g. 40 or 50 at a time) and keep economy until I have isolate the image or images that is in question, such that I save data to all the other images that are not in conflict first, then attack the error one images in time.  In any case, I find myself crushing data because I trust the LR database to be stored more accurate data.  I just want to know what images were at risk, so I can review immediately after overwriting the data to make sure that, indeed, they are good.  I usually use a temporary quick collection to isolate them.

  The good news is that I've never had a result that required me to go back and re - develop an image.  The bad news is I'm still not comfortable hit "crush" after selecting images and just let it rip.  Hmmm...

  Then you previously installed sync successfully on your laptop? You may need to redefine your account and for this you will need your recovery key and the following steps

  If you do not have the recovery key, your only option is to reset the recovery key. To do this, follow these simple instructions:

  1. Click on «Set up Firefox Sync»
  2. Click on 'Connect' as I already have an account.
  3. In this window, forget the code and click on 'I don't have the camera with me' right underneath the 3 boxes.
  4. In this window, under the 'Sync key' field, there is a paragraph with a link to the end. "I lost my other device."
  5. Click on it and follow the instructions. In the end, you'll be ready to go. Just reset your Firefox Home app and that's all.
