Laptop with Vista black screen of death (KSOD) at startup. How can I fix it?

For a few hours I have really searched the internet for this problem.

To start, my Dell Inspiron 1521 supplied with Windows Vista Home Premium (just thought that might be important, apologies if it isn't.)

A month ago my Inspiron had a problem where I would sign and everything works fine until the... I login and see that my normal wallpaper is now a blank screen, all my shortcut on my desktop icons are gone except for the good old bin recycling and the flashy chrome, taskbar and ORB blue Windows for the Start button has been completely reduced to a dull old menu like you would see on an earlier version of Windows to start Windows. When it happened first, he attaches magically by restarting it. The last time however, I was almost tempted to reformat my hard drive together to solve this problem, because the magic restart did not work this time. I finally found improvement and finally, he started to work again when I went in the area of network in my Start Menu and makes a sort of scanning that fixed my problems (the reason I did it was because I received a pop up when I logged indicating that the disk is not found or that the network was having problems (is not found etc, so I thought that the network in my Start Menu was where I should have started.)

It was a month ago, it is not my problem now, but I thought that let you on that because I have the feeling that two problems is perhaps related, I felt that it would be unwise to leave something like that out.

Now, just yesterday I closed my game (Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, high chart!) because he was turning slowly. Once I rebooted, the PC shows the Dell logo and then the Windows screen with the loading bar green scroll. After that, my PC was just a black screen with only my small cursor to entertain me while I waited for over 45 minutes so he can do something. Nothing happened, and it happened yesterday, I was still not able to reach my login screen.

I have internet but I'm terrible with computers and the only progress I've done, it is that I learned that a lot of PC with Vista have this problem and it's called the KSOD (BlacK S Of Death creen). That's all

So what I really wonder is... Can someone please explain to me how to solve this problem or what I should do... and there, explain it as if you were talking to a 6 year old? :)

Try and do a system restore before your problem:

Restore point:

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Looks like you have had problems for some time, which makes it harder to diagnose.
If you can't fix it, you could do a system recovery.
But back UP all your data before trying that.
Here's how Dell it:
Dell recovery options:
http://supportapj.Dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/DSN/en/document?journalid=67E9C215C4BABD6CE040AE0AB5E14F05&docid=339949
It's way to Dell to reinstall from the DVD on your computer.
Answer the questions in blue; It is in a sequence.
And that way if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive.
See you soon.
    The ability to rotate the screen image is a characteristic of your video
    card, to help work with instructors who turn to the portrait
    orientation. Almost certainly you accidentally pressed Ctrl-Alt, and
    an arrow key.
    Rotate using these keys.
    Problem: I'm catching up after startup, it does not show the vista logo but showed the loading bar, doesn't make it to the login screen. Instead shows the bright black screen with a cursor, the cursor moves freely. Ctrl-alt-del does not work, StickyKeys is sound but no visual. So we know that this abomination of windows load.   • Beats Studio laptop 15-p089na: black screen of death
    We bought several of these models of laptop for our school. Many of them are met with a black screen at random death. Without warning, the screen goes black (with portable power and always on button). No amount of button pressing or click of the mouse will be reactive (continued) the screen. Nothing visible at all. The only solution is to hold down the power button, then start it again. If it was just a laptop, I think it was a fault. But with many do (once a fotnight of about), it makes me think that there is a major flaw with the model/software?
    No obvious trend (sometimes they run out of voltage of a battery, power, sometimes using MSWord, sometimes slow...)
    Any help appreciated.
  • Vista black screen of death
    Hi, I have recently started to the top of my desk and all of a sudden, it was a black screen with only the cursor. There is nothing I can do, can not enter the Manager tasks or anything like that. I tried to switch when starting and tried restoring the system and other repairs but no go. Safe mode does not either -same problem black screen. We tried to put a Vista upgrade disc in but after clicking on install vista, I get a message "A required CD/DVD drive device is missing. If you have a driver from the floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB, please insert it now. "I tried to download the driver from the hp site and also extract the installation file I then put in the usb port. But when I plugged in usb and tried to move to this file I get always the message no driver. I tried to make the bootrec in the cmd prompt, but nothing works like as my c disk is missing and replaced by a disc of x. The top of the page my command prompt, it says Administrator:X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe. I read a thread somewhere on google and someone says that drive x is supposed to be caused by a virus?
    Any help is very appreciated!
    Looks like you may have a virus or other malware. Get your updated antivirus program and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.
    If that suits him fine. If this is not the case, use system restore to go back to an earlier date at the beginning of the problem. To run system restore, click Start-> programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> system restore. Click on the box that says show more restore points.
    -
    You can check the corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above does not help. Click START, and then type CMD in the search box, right-click on CMD. EXE and click run as administrator. Then, from the command prompt type sfc/scannow.
    -
    Finally if all else fails, you can look at the rather cryptic system event log. To make, click Start-> Control Panel-> administration-> event viewer tools. Once in Event Viewer system log-click and scroll entries looking for these "error" with indicator see if you can find guidance on where the problem may be.
  • I get the message "paging of kernel data error" blue screen several times a week. How can I fix?
    First of all, I have an Acer Aspire 571 V3. It came with windows 8. I have had the laptop for over 2 years now and the problem seems to be getting worse. Everything worked perfectly for the first year and I only started experiences issues once I switched to Windows 8.1.  After several accidents every week, I decided to reset my laptop to factory settings, so I can return to Windows 8. Turns out, that Windows 8.1 was not the problem because they continued to occur on 8 institutions. A year of this point and I have twice now reset my laptop but the problem has not disappeared. I made sure it wasn't a virus as well since I only downloaded the bare minimum, I need for my daily activities that revolve around google chrome and meeting places.
    I also met another problem. Since the update of Windows 10 is the corner of the street, I tried updating to 8.1 again and I could book 10 Windows. But the problem now is that I can not install this update. After a long installation, I got an error (0x7007001F - 0 x 30018).
    Any help would be appreciated. If I could somehow solve this problem would be great. Thank you.
    I couldn't update Adobe Flash player. I don't have these same problems on my laptop under Windows 7 64 bit.     By chance for about 5 months, I could not reinstall Adobe Reader on my desktop running Windows 7 64 bit. Previously, it had been installed and trouble-free operation. Are these 2 problems?
    I disabled my Norton Firewall and antivirus as well, but the same question p ersists.
