Large small vs database database

Like Billy... < action mod.: Please, citing, insert a link to reference projects database and DBA? >

Could you explain how little support due to large

lol sessions and the transactions up to 1000 and 100 respectively.

Considering the large database support only 10 sessions and 1 queries per minute...

It's really related to the site. Some people divide data into different types, such as the data warehouse (DW), transactional processing (OLTP), (DSS) decision support services online, heterogeneous (mixed people) and so on. For each of them, applications will be based on polling and put load profiles to date involved. If all goes well, an OLTP system will be many quick transactions short, while a data warehouse may have huge data followed by a number of massive query loads, and a DSS system can account for a large fluctuation of queries.

Billy was giving an example of two extremes, I guess to illustrate that you need to apply an empirical observation to answer questions such as "how great the sga be?

Some people expect the formulas by sellers to understand these things. It's perhaps a bit too much to expect, unless the seller has a large number of clients with similar profiles to load. It can be calculated, but it must still understand the application to do this (google Shallahamer forecast), and even if you get the size right, you still need to test empirically under typical application loads and even after that, things change in production - to be more precise, DBA will have to spend a lot of time on maintenance plan. You can let Oracle understand it and then just reacting to problems. You can follow some general guidelines (such as the use of hugepages, or not). There is a range of solutions, all can do a freshness is learn from the experience, going to conferences and try to follow the issues online.

• Internal databases

I'm trying to simulate at least a company small scale database environment. I'll use the data generator to fill my database. Can someone tell me what is the standard size for a database (perhaps a range of small to large size might be useful for me)? I'm going to be running this on a laptop at home, so I'll have to scale the size down to match my number of CPU. If you can tell me a size, can you also tell me what would be the number of processor for the server for a database of this size? I want to do not take account of distributed environments, which is not relevant to my application. Maybe I should reword that, what would be the standard size database for a company on a server?

I doubt that there is any kind of meaningful response to this kind of question...

In the first place, for the most part, OLTP databases, the number of processors is related the number of concurrent users, not the volume of data. Double the amount of data while maintaining the consistent number of users usually requires much more CPU resources. Thus, "enlarge them the size down to match" really makes no sense. There are a lot of OLTP databases hundreds of GB I could comfortably run in single-user mode on my laptop (assuming I got enough disk space).

Second, it seems unlikely that there is a "usual" size A database of companies relatively large OLTP these days is probably several hundreds of GB up to a couple of tuberculosis. A relatively small companies OLTP database can easily be less than a GB. It really depends on the application.

• switch database to copy and backagain

I have 2 asm disk groups, DATA + and + FRA. I want to make a quick recovery, so I "switch the database to copy".

My question is after it is done, what are the steps to move the database back to + DATA. The database is large and there is not enough space in the

groups of disks to store a backup and a database. Which means after I go to the copy, I need to remove the old db to + DATA.

1. I have to remove the old db to + DATA. How will know rman to delete what is in + DATA and not + FRA?

delete backup;

2 "restore" FRA to + ETRUBANS "

RMAN> backup as copy database format '+DATA';
RMAN> backup as copy current controlfile format '+DATA';
RMAN> switch database to copy

RMAN> startup nomount;
RMAN> alter database mount;
RMAN> recover database;
RMAN> alter database open;

Is this good? Am I missing a step?

It's a common mistake to not allocate enough disk space for the fast recovery area. As a general rule, I suggest to FRA at least 3 times as large as your database, in order to maintain a current version and previous backup, plus one space for archiving logs.

Regarding your question, when you put the database to copy, previous data files will come to the 'new' copy. After you have changed the data files, you can then simply delete the copy of the database and thus remove the old data files.

For example:

RMAN> report schema;

using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
Report of database schema for database with db_unique_name ORCL1

Hi Wendy,.

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing.

To create a shortcut on the desktop, follow these steps and check:

(a) access the program, file, or folder that you want a shortcut to.
(b) make a right click on the item you want the shortcut and select "send to", then
"Desktop (create shortcut)".

I suggest you for the link and check if that helps:

• What is the best, safest and easiest way to store and manage passwords electronically?

I know there are a lot of programs rated password and management services on the market for Windows users, but I hesitated using an any of them because I don't know how security, they are really - it seems as if a sneaky programmer could easily include a hidden back door hack that would allow them to fly without the knowledge of the user. Unfortunately, these days, data breaches continuing in societies and in the sites of the Government, demonstrated with some certainty that there is no really safe, more.

Keep a written list of password is a little awkward; He takes each password to manually write down, then looked up and typed to the computer, and if you lose the paper list, you're RUINED. Keep an email list of password in a document, it's easy and simple. But the document must surely stay offline, not on the hard drive of the computer.

For lack of a better idea, I'm currently a USB key where I keep a document containing all of my passwords for accounts website and in some cases, for applications. I plug briefly when I need a password: with preview pane of Explorer turned on, the text content of the file password is visible in the preview for a quick search, and copy/paste pane. Then I immediately remove and unplug the USB.

Somehow it makes feel me a little safer, but it's probably a crazy illusion: after all, any time he connected and mounted, it is probably subject to be hacked. And even after I disassemble and remove the USB, I wonder... do the contents of the file that was posted in the Preview Panel, persist as a latent image in my paging file in Microsoft Office or elsewhere on my computer, where a potential hacker could access?

Also, I realize that the password itself, which I copied to the Clipboard, is potentially at risk, as well.

And, of course, there is the question of whether and how the USB itself must be encrypted and password protected... but also firmly backed up to somewhere else, because ultimately any USB drive can and probably will fail.

Is there a really secure way, not involving not third-party software, Web sites, or "cloud services", to keep a list of password accessible electronically, which is absolutely free of breach of security, the password protected or encrypted and safely backed up and always stored where I personally in my immediate fix possession? What Miss me?

"Userland",

I don't think that you are missing something. I don't think that it is possible to get a definitive answer to your question. The best policy is impossible to establish when it comes to the protection of password that hackers are as unpredictable as the burglars. I offer you the results of my investigation into the matter simply as material for thought.

I do the same as you except that I log out * of the internet before connecting the USB to open the password file [just in case I'm on a Web page that was set up to allow an overview of the open documents capture]. This USB never lets me and his backup copy lives behind the radiator.

* That I am connected through WiFi just turn it off without leaving the Web page that I want, connect the USB cable, copy the password to the Clipboard, unplug the USB, turn on WiFi, paste the password in and then copy from the boring text in the Clipboard to replace the password it.

I studied the effectiveness of passwords for MS Office 2007, a couple of years ago because I used a file protected by password to store all of my passwords. I reached decisions for Excel files & password-protected but, I stopped using Access I could find nothing to refute the claims that small Access databases can be broken by other than force attacks attacks online.

password length 18 non-dictionnaire-strings with letters [both upper & lower case], numbers and common punctuation, at least 2 symbols

password length 19 non-dictionnaire-strings with [both upper & lower case] letters, numbers, punctuation ordinary, without any symbol

21 password length with letters [both upper & lower case] non-dictionnaire-strings, numbers, without punctuation, without any symbol

These password types-lengths would have less chance of being 1/1,000,00 brute force cracked [combined with the attack by dictionary] in years thirty systems sophisticated such as those described in password online decoding & services security guidance documents I discovered.

The assumptions in my analysis are-

1 they don't judge me a value of more than 100 hours of dedicated effort that offer some of these services to password decoding standard service.

2 current hacker boasts of its capabilities is accurate

3 they have control of the power of calculation 1 000 000-2 000 000 equivalent-PC [a very large botnet, a network of data centers,...]

4 my analysis assumes that you are using MS Office 2007, but improvements to the password in the 2013 office security mechanisms mean that my analysis is looking for the side dark security if I ever upgrade. Frustrating, I was not able to quantify the degree of improvement.

5-speed of calculation will continue to double each year for the next thirty years-

"Moore's law" is the observation that, in the history of computer hardware, the number of transistors on integrated circuits double about every two years. Intel Executive David House predicted then 18 months for a doubling of the CPU performance (being a combination of the effect of several transistors and them being faster). I assumed a double each year 1 purely for simplicity of calculation, so my results apply in fact to a period of more than 30 years given hypothesis "right" of a Moore.

• When we use Oracle LDAP?

Version: 11.2.0.3 on RHEL 5.8

I used the file tnsnames.ora and easyConnect connection to connect to the DB.

Recently, I came across Oracle LDAP using $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/ldap.ora.

What kind of application allows you to connect to an Oracle LDAP database?

Why do we need even Oracle LDAP mechanism when we had of the tnsnames.ora file for the name of the comic resolution?

Hi Ken,

Generally it is used for 'big' sites where there are a large number of databases and a large number of customers. Instead of everyone having a copy of the files tnsnames who is somehow updated on many servers and clients, you can store the tnsnames entries in ldap (OID or microsoft AD). It is kept in a central location that all processing, a change is then made to the centre and taken over by everyone immediately - make a wide area much easier to manage.

It is also necessary for the "security of user enterprise" (using the oid)-here the users are stored in a central directory and referenced in each database in the field. You change the password for your user name in the directory and this password is then 'day' for each database (without having to go a user alter on every single system - each database looks like DIO to validate the user name and establish what are the rights he should have)-it is very powerful stuff for large properties and makes things much easier to manage.

For small systems however it has probably never will be necessary.

See you soon,.

• 51 in VM system error?

Hi all

Not sure if this is corect forum but I'm sure someone will put me right.

I have a Windows Server 2003 SP2 running on a San connected to my very small ESX3.5 server supporting six virtual servers. Two of the servers have been moved on the SAN while the other remain on the local storage of the ESX host.

One of these servers is configured as follows: Server 2003 SP2 32-bit, 2048 RAM with 2 GB SCSI disks 50 mg hard confgiured Basic versus dynamic inside Windows.le server disks host several small SourceSafe databases, but also a new software used by our QA department. This software contains a large number of small files stored in its own local database format. I'm not sure if this software is the culprit in my scenario.

What I see is a small number of system error 51 s generated in the event log system on this server at random times during the day. Googling this error against VMs comes with questions and answers from 2005 to 2008 to virtualize SQL servers with a large amount of disk i/o. I wonder if I see the same thing, if it's really a question or if I can do some other configuration changes to help solve the problem?

Kind regards

Gordon

Hello

In regard to the remark of MS and not performing VM enough, it is interesting to note that MS has this kind of comments so that their own product (Hyper-V et al.) are powerful enough to properly support the MS SQL in a virtual environment. I would chalk up to MS FUD.

in any case, I guess it of mud slinging and not very relevant to the discussion.

For a more relevant counterargument, take a look at this article from VMware performance group:

http://blogs.VMware.com/performance/2008/05/100000-IO-Opera.html

Or for a report of no vmware, take a look at this study of Brocade:

http://www.Brocade.com/downloads/documents/white_papers/WP_VMWareSQLServerBenchmark-00.PDF

Using virtualization and bays of external storage, you can stagger out better as simply assigning the entire machine to SQL Server, and assuming that you get the same scaling performance upward. So by applying good configuration you can actually get more performance from your hardware in the VMS as using physical hardware.

With regard to SQL2000, SQL2005 vs. I do not know your application and SQL 2005 is if I remember correctly - that's all right now-backward compatibility with SQL 2000 almost everything. I'm a database developer, but use about any server SQL, not only the products of Ms.

The reason why I mentioned, it's that I don't think that even Microsoft still supports SQL 2000, so if you can improve it, would be nice. With respect to the resolution of the 51 system error report, I also don't think that this will solve, but don't really know. I can't test/check here because I have no more SQL 2000 configurations.

Now, back to your syslog error event. Personally, I doubt it is a serious mistake and that a report of an absence of cache, but for now, I'm having trouble to back up this statement. If it's a mistake that occurs every day, then you might be able to set up some performance counters to check if the host is trading at the time of such a report.

If I look at the log of my current VM system, I also see an error 51 error, but it's for my floppy drive.

An error was detected on device \Device\Floppy1 during a paging operation.

Consider that your report is for the physical hard drive? He also has the part "paging operation"?

You have only a single mounting of hard disk with this virtual machine?

• 10.1-> 11 g via import/export, not DBUA - notice?

We have a 10.1.0.4 database which is rather simple: tables, indexes, sequences, and that's it. No user PL/SQL or Java - fairly simple stuff.

We must move to GR 11, 1 material and my plan was to build a new database of 11 GR 1 material, export patterns of the 10.1 database and import them into the new. It is not a large amount of data. This also has the advantage of having the two available DBs at the same time (old and new).

A colleague attended a local Oracle conference and the presenter said about ten times "If you're going to upgrade, you MUST use DBUA! Very important! You will have big problems if you do not! "Then, he wants to use DBUA. My opinion is that we are not 'modernize' but rather export/import and it is conceptually very simple.

I'm curious to know if it is really nothing wasted in my method of import/export. My thought is that the new 11 GR 1 material database will be set up properly and cleanly, and we simply add data itself. He was a little scared of speaking ;-)

Thoughts?

Hello

If you know exactly the content of your drawings, it is easy to import/export and check the result.

As you say, by export/import, you can compare 2 databases and control how your application works on the new database.

I did several migrations and, so far, has no need to use DBUA.

I understand that for a large (or complex) database DBUA may be the best way, but for a simple and small database, I'd rather import/export too.

To help you in your choice, you will find attached a link on how to upgrade:

http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B28359_01/server.111/b28300/TOC.htm

You will find the method of import and export on Chapter 7.

Hope this helps.
Best regards

• Manufacturing advanced in Dreamweaver

I have a database where users need to place data with homeless dogs.
In this Page "insert", the user has put the height of the dog in centimeters. (e.g., 80).

Now, in the 'dog search' Page I want what they looking for 'Big' 'Medium' 'Small' where 'Big' 'Medium' 'Small' corresponds to a range of values (always the same).

How can I accomplish this?

Can I use:

SELECT the height BETWEEN '0' AND '30' AS smallsize
BLABLA
HAVING smallsize AS somesqlvariable

and this somesqlvariable correspond to $_POST ['dropdownsize']

But how can we make other sizes?

GOLD,
If I try to do in the demand side:

I'll need an IF statement, like this:

If ($_POST ['size'] == 'pequeño') {}
$varintervalo = "alt_cm_an < 30 ';
} ElseIf ($_POST ['size'] == "medio") {}
$varintervalo = "alt_cm_an > = 30 AND 40 size <";
} ElseIf ($_POST ['size'] == 'large') {}
$varintervalo = "alt_cm_an > = 40;
}

and this:

SELECT * FROM dogs WHERE the $intervalo

And this:
Drop-down list box
< select id = "size" name = "Size" >
Pequeno < option > < / option >
Medio < option > < / option >
great < option > < / option >
< / select >

But if I put this in dreamweaver, I get the exclamation points! I do not see my Recordset in my server or simple behaviors panel!
And I have no idea where to put the IF statement in the code without getting errors in dreamweaver.

In your drop down menu to search for 'small', 'medium' and 'broad,'
values as a string separated by commas like this:

Yes, I know that you have dogs not high of 5 meters. The final number
Simply exceed the maximum possible.

Use the advanced Recordset dialog box to create a SQL query like this:

SELECT * FROM dogs WHERE the dimensions BETWEEN var1 AND var2

In the definition of the Variables, set the Type of var1 to Numeric and its
Execution of $min value; Set var2 digital Type and its duration
value to $max.

Just above the code that defines the values of var1 and var2, insert this:

If (isset($_POST['size'])) {}
$temp = explode (',', $_POST ['size']);
$min = $temp [0];
$max = $temp [1];
}

• Looking for accessories for a Satellite L655D-S5151

I'm looking for some accessories for my Satellite L655D-S5151. The newsletter that Toshiba continues to send to me is always on new laptops. I don't need a new laptop that I just bought it. I need accessories for the one I have.

Now I'm looking for two things:

A graphics tablet that I can use for tracing/drawing/note taking which would be compatible with Tablet PC Input Panel and art including OpenOffice Draw programs.

Something to replace notebooks. Something handheld or slightly larger with a database of address/phone number would be nice. I would like to be able to download the notes from the device to the laptop. I didn't need anything else. No games, camera or phone. It should be relatively inexpensive. I thought I'd do a PDA, but apparently they are obsolete. Does anyone have any suggestions? Google was not helpful.

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

How about something like an Android Tablet?

• sites 11.1.1.8 install error

I want to install 11.1.1.8 on windows machine sites 7 with 11.2 XE DB, weblogic 110.3.6

I get error after installing... com.fatwire.cs.core.db.TransactionAbortException: replacerows failed

I can just proceed beyong 79% of the installation. There is also no option ignores. It's all install them or all fail kind.

I have granted all privileges to cuser as follows. so why this error?

SQL > grant connect, resource, CREATE TABLE, CREATE VIEW, CREATE SESSION, UNLIMITED TABLESPACE to cuser identified by cuser;

Help of pl...

THX

Probably, you get the error because the appserver does not read the data in UTF-8 format and therefore trying to import using a different character set, in which the data is too large for the database column.

Have you tried to create a jsp test page to see if file.encoding parameter gets well positioned?

Where in your startWebLogic.cmd you set SAVE_JAVA_OPTIONS? In the first instance or the second?

If you do not need the Japanese language pack, it would be possible to remove it from the languagepackInstall.xml, although I'm not sure that the lines to remove/change.

• How to config a cache shared for several environments with the C API

How to config a cache shared for several environments with C API? Like Java edition. Chapter 2. Database environments

I want to open the large number of databases, at least 10,000. But as the counties of open databases increase, the db-> open become very slow operation. It took almost 2 hours for 10 000 databases.

So I try to distribute these databases on multiple environments (for example, 5 envs). And to improve the efficiency of memory use, I want to share cache between ENVS.

Hello

We do not support the cache sharing between different environments as you mentioned.

We have tested the case of the opening of 100 000 databases, see the number that you have encountered, we will check what is happening.

Kind regards

• Replace mysql_pconnect mysql_connect

I am trying to connect to a new hosting through Dreamweaver, ftp connects but I get an error trying to connect to the database

I get an error message

Your PHP server does not have the MySQL module loaded or you cannot use mysql_ (p) connection function.

I followed the support knowledge base technique suggested accommodation (hosting company is eukhost.com) which is below: -.

eUKhost Forum Web hosting

It asked me to change mysql_pconnect mysql_connect and save the file in the dreamweaver directory.

I did this, but was still the error.

technical support then "comment the disabled_function temporarily.

This gave me access to the database using Dreamweaver... This meant that I always use mysql_pconnect

can someone tell me if I wasn't looking in the right place or if I need to change somewhere else?

Normally, it is irrelevant whether you use mysql_connect() and mysql_pconnect(). The reason that your webhost probably disabled it's because it offers a large number of databases for a monthly rate very low. If everyone uses persistent connections with mysql_pconnect() shared hosting, the server can become outdated.

I think that the problem can be resolved by removing your existing login scripts or create a new. It must also have the web remote server to be restarted (a trivial operation would take the host only seconds). However, your tech support solves the problem of the reactivation of mysql_pconnect(), allowing you to get your job, which is what really matters.
