Last automatic update windows tried to kill my computer...

The only thing installed yesterday was an update automatic windows vista. I turned off my laptop, and when I got home I tried to start it up. Windows wouldn't start in normal mode, so I booted in safe mode, scanned with my antivirus, antimalware... etc... and found nothing. So, I used the system recovery and put the laptop on the eve of thinking maybe something strange was snuck in. It worked fine, so I thought it was good. I created a new poin of recovery, re-installed upgrading windows and close.
He walks this morning to find that he had the same problem. I started back in safe mode, reused the system recovery and used the recovery point that I had put just before I downloaded the updates of windows and now everything works fine. I have disabled the automatic updates and I have not had problems since.
Does anyone know why the Windows Update tries to kill my computer? The Auto-mises to day running all the time and I've never had this problem before.

Any help or advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Merydeth,
If you are still having this problem and have not updated your system then here are a few things to try.  First of all, make sure that your system is free from any infection malware\virus.  If you do not have an up-to-date antivirus program and then take a look at this article: get rid of the malware , it has lots of good info on the programs to try.  Then, you go through Windows Update and install updates one at a time to determine that perhaps there was a problem.  Post back with the update and we can discuss more later.

  • Automatic updates Windows 7 does not

Can someone please help me solve this problem?

Automatic updates stop working on my PC. I tried everything I could find on the line to fix. Automatic Update repair tool has no difficulty it displays error code 0 x 8007005. I even reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows 7. The last time I reinstalled Windows 7, a couple of years, he had more than 300 updates which had to be installed. This time only 17 found updates and each of them has successfully installed. The last that was installed is the new automatic update service. After installing this update, I searched more than updated. The service begins updates but never finds any. I let it run for more than eight hours and it remains to check updates, no error messages or error codes are displayed.

  • "Security Essentials" automatically updated, "Windows Update" does not work?

    Hello:

I bought a Dell again last month pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).

Immediately, I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials (after having removed via Control Panel, a trial version of McAfee, I believe that it is, that I never activated/enabled) to use as my Security Suite.

According to my 'View Update History', Microsoft Security Essentials updates automatically every day.

"Windows Update" itself, however, does not work.

However, the original being in place by default settings, that is, "install updates automatically" is checked.

When I finally noticed this and tried to manually check for updates, I kept getting the dreaded error code "server is busy".  That lasted several hours.  When I was finally able to connect, I received a long list of updates for download/install.  However, when I tried to do, several "Failed" (according to 'View Update History'), which some marked "important".  Further, when I manually check for updates again, these updates to the 'fail' don't reappear, so I don't know how to get them.

More importantly, I don't understand why "Microsoft Security Essentials" updated automatically and daily and without problem, so that 'Windows Updates', although updated automatically, does not?

True, my computer is off at 03:00 (the default update time), but I understand that the update should occur (to delay) the next time the computer is turned on.

I have read many of the questions and answers here and tried most of what was suggested - for example:

-My internet connection works of course very well.
-I have no 'Proxy Server '.
-J' ran 'TDSSKiller' and there was no threat found.
-J' have also run Microsoft 'Fix Tool", which shows that something has been fixed, but it has no effect.  And whenever I run it, it 'fixed' apparently the same thing.  Without result.

I ran Windows Update again manually before posting here and it seems to have worked very well, but why doesn't it work automatically?

    Thank you

If all were fine with your computer:

    1. you should not receive 80072EE2 errors [1] when running manually check updates, assuming that your user account has the required permissions.

  • Both my vista system entered a repeated after the last automatic update reboot

I had just done file clean with Norton Utilities on both systems, during the restart of automatic updates has downloaded the latest vista updates.

Step 2 first load okay but when the phase 3 is to load I get the same message: configuration of updates of stge 3 of 3 0% complete do not turn off your computer and keeps it just reboot again and again.

One system, I could get back on line running a repair utility and go back to a restore point. No luck on the other still.

Tried all the advice, it's the only thing that finally worked.

Here is the short version for people who know how to get to tools to do this and if run restore system from the installation DVD does not work: DELETE the files \Windows\WinSxS\cleanup.xml AND (if applicable) will be fixed \Windows\WinSxS\pending.xml and the infinite loop updated.

There are two ways to get the files, you need to delete. The easiest is to start your installation of Windows and the button 'Install now' DVD, click on the link located at the bottom left that says 'Repair your computer' open a command prompt and type:

    del C:\Windows\WinSxS\cleanup.xml

    del C:\Windows\WinSxS\pending.xml

  • Bad patch after automatic update: Windows will not start

I am running a 32 bit Windows Vista and my automatic updates recently installed "major updates", but there must be one which is mess up my computer. Fortunately, I was able to do a restore of the system on my computer right before when the updates are installed, my computer is working again and the error code that was spotted in the restoration of the system was that there was a bad patch. Updates were: KB2288613 (a security update for microsoft office 2003), KB2347290, KB975558 KB981322 KB2141007 (all updates for windows vista security) and KB905866 (update for windows mail junk e-mail filter).

I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with these or any other patches automatically downloaded? I restored my computer so that it will continue to work for me, but I can't keep ignoring important updates for my computer. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem and to keep my computer don't step back after an update? Would be trying to download one at a time (then by restarting after each download) in order to remove the update is causing the problem to the best idea at this stage? Maybe that way I can just ignore than AN update...

    Hi LinaMarieWSU,

    1. what happens after I installed updates?

    2. do you have security software installed on the computer?

I suggest that you disable the security software installed on the computer and then install the updates, one after the other and check.

    Disable the anti-virus software

  • 6.3 Lightroom refuses to open after an automatic update Windows 10 Pro

My computer refuses to open Lightroom 6.3 after my software has been updated automatically by SM.  When I try to open Lightroom, I get a message dialog informing me that Lightroom has been checking the integrity of the Lightroom Catalog.  After 20 seconds of audit, the dialog box disappears and the Lightroom program does not open.

When this error occurred initially, after the automatic updates of Windows Pro 10, I tried to fix the problem with Lightroom 6.2.1 opting for Lightroom 6.3.  After the Lightroom 6.3 upgrade, I am unable to open my Lightroom program and edit images.

  • automatic update Windows defender

Windows Update is in my case to "check and inform", because I usually take a backup of the system disk before applying updates.
However, the windows defender updates happen every day, and I believe that they cannot break my computer.
I really wish Microsoft to separate the two updates: enabling windows Defender Update automatically, all while my preference of "check and inform" as regards to windows update in general.
Why should he go through the update of windows defender windows? Cannot make its own updates like any other antivirus on the market?

    Hi harrymc,.

Thanks for posting your request on the Microsoft Answers site.

Windows and the programs that ship with Windows, such as Internet Explorer and Windows Defender can be updated automatically by turning on automatic updating.  You can configure Windows to automatically install important updates and recommended updates. Optional updates are not downloaded or installed automatically. With the parameters value updates Windows Update to update, but let me choose whether to download and install, you can set Windows Defender to check the new definitions before a Windows Defender analyzes programmed.

To automatically check new definitions before Windows Defender at the request of scans (recommended)

    1. Click to open Windows Defender in Control Panel > Windows Defender

    2. click on tools and then click Options.

    3. under automatic scanning, make sure the automatically scan my computer (recommended) check box is enabled.

4 check for updated definitions before scanning them to check, and then click Save. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To manually check the new definitions for Windows Defender:

    1. Click here to open Windows Defender.

    2. click on the arrow next to the help button and then click Find updates.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  • After the last automatic update, I lost the Norton since Firefox toolbar.

In order to have a Norton ID Safe operation, I use Firefox ESR 38.4.0 with a stand-alone version of Norton Security Toolbar 2014.7.11.35.  I locked update of Firefox and Norton in the registry, in group policy, and in the settings options programs. Everything worked fine with MS Security Essentials and firewall Windows on Max Windows Update settings is set to "check for updates but let me decide what and when to download and install."

Everything was going well until I've manually updated Windows.  I put the info on each update of the changes likely to modify the parameters of Norton or Firefox or add telemetrics.  Once installed 37 required and optional updates, I found that I lost Norton Security toolbar. It has been marked as incompatible in Add-ons, and the Norton toolbar has been removed from the browser. Even the Norton toolbar menu option has been removed in Firefox menu display drop-down. I broke compatibility with no result.

I had to uninstall Firefox and Norton Toolbar, restore Windows to upgrade and re - install Firefox and Norton.

What updates issued since 07/02/2016 would have caused all this chaos?  I can't update Windows or Windows Security Essentials until I reduce some update or updates causes this problem.

(Updated everything and running without typing Norton Safe ID auto are not an option.)

    Thank you advance.

  • After the last automatic update, I can't receive any email to any of my 6 email accounts?

I have been using Thunderbird without any problems and just after the latest Automatic update, happened the other day, I can not receive or send e-mails to all. I checked all the settings of accounts and find nothing has changed. I think it's a problem with the update? I don't see any way to update or install the program without losing emails or information. Does anyone else have this problem?

I make a new account using the same e-mail settings and was able to receive and send emails on the account that I used. So, just to try it, that I'm back in the original account and now I am able to send and receive emails again from him. I hope he takes care of the problem?

I then removed the new account and am using the original one now.

Everything works as it should right now so it's resolved for now.
