  It's more complicated than that.

  • Lightroom does not use the Camera Raw separate used by Photoshop plugin. Lightroom has the Camera Raw engine built into its code base. When you update to Lightroom, all Raw updates are included in Lightroom.
  • Compatibility of camera Raw plugin varies according to the version of Photoshop
    Camera Raw plugin and Adobe application compatibility
  • CS5 is only compatible with Camera Raw up to version 6.7.
  • CS6 is only compatible with Camera Raw up to version 9.1.1.
  • Only Cloud versions are compatible with current versions of Camera Raw.
  • To use Raw files in CS5 which require new versions of Camera Raw 6.7, to open the import dialog in Lightroom and "Copy as DNG". Open the DNG in CS5.

  Lightroom does not use plug in Camera Raw. So download the latest Camera Raw did nothing at all for you. The only way to update or upgrade Lightroom is to get the latest version. If you have Lightroom 4 then the latest version of Lightroom, you have no additional cost is Lightroom 4.4.1. If the device you are using requires something newer that what is supported and that the version of Lightroom, then an upgrade to Lightroom 5.

  I am trying to open some a Panasonic Lumix LX3 RAW files.  I realize that the RAW 4.1-5 elements does not open these RAW files, but I'm going round in circles trying to find the correct update.

  In an area of the site, it says that I need RAW 4.5.  When I click on this link, it seems not to apply to the 5 elements.  I already downloaded the DNG Converter 5.2, while the elements 5 RAW 4.1 does not open the LX3.  Is there an elements 5 RAW plugin update which will open the Panasonic Lumix LX3 RAW files?  If Yes, where is it?  I don't want to spoil my PC if I install the wrong update.

  If I double click on the 5.2.exe DNG file, is this transfer anything to 5 items, or is there a 'stand alone' program as .exe files are usually?  For me I could spoil 5 elements and not be able to open my other camera RAW files.

  you will be able to open any RAW file for everything, but the latest models of cameras, in any program of Photoshop/Elements that supports RAW files.

  Once you might have to purge the cache for all folders you displayed with the old camera raw plugin.

  If your camera is not supported in the list Ronald displayed, you will need to download the converter DNG - version 9.1 now and which allows you to convert your DNG files, before you can open them in Photoshop or see them in Bridge.

  Yes, you have to go to photoshop cs6 to use the latest version of camera raw (7.2).

  However, you can use the free DNG Converter 7.2 to convert the D600 files to DNG copy that cs4 should then open in camera raw 5.7.
