  This question was asked a few times, but no real progress seems to have been done in the past months, so I thought I would ask the question again, perhaps that someone has found a new 'thing '? :

  Location:

  -I would like to save all my (> 40 k pictures) photos currently in iCloud on an external drive.

  -I don't have enough memory space on my Mac to Park gradually through 'Photos' (i.e. download all original to my mac-function)

  -I want to directly choose a location (i.e., my external HARD drive) to store in.

  What I tried:

  -Via Safari and Chrome: connect to iCloud.com, select all images (via 'Shift' and select photo first + last) and direct downloads on the external drive.

  Problem:

  Since there are so many pictures, my Safari and my browsers Chrome "crashes" and do not complete the work (actually that they don't even start to download). If I select just say 5 pictures, it works in a jiffy.

  Do not use iCloud.com.

  Set up a library on your external drive, make the system library and download the photos, once you've done that you can keep it this way, keep as a secondary library and change the library system to another library or simply export all the photos and remove the library.

• Sites that use javascript to launch code download fail in FF but work in Internet Explorer.

  All financial sites that I use (TD Ameritrade, SunTrust bank, AmEx, etc.) allow to download monthly statements in pdf format. These used to be direct links to a pdf file, which can be downloaded or played directly in Firefox. They are now the javascripts which probably make the PDF on the fly from documents, and then download. I get a garbage file on my desk instead. In Internet Explorer, the javascript code triggers a query to view or download. In Firefox, I believe that there is a flash of a window that opens, then nothing. I tried to disable AdBlocker and have the sites listed to allow pop-ups, and is not.

  Try running Firefox in questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode. If it works properly in this configuration, then one of your modules is the culprit.

  You have the 'special' 6.18.64.106 version with modified GUI. The automatic file backup option was introduced in this version. You can disable this option.

• Fast download, Vista decided to copy and it takes 8 times longer than dling!

  Can I download a file of 80MG in about 20 seconds. Vista always allows me to choose where I want to save in my downloads. But then Vista didn't download it there, no, he chooses his own place to Vista 4 minutes and 9 seconds to copy it where I wanted it.

  By default, Windows Vista downloads the files in the folder "Downloads" of user e.g.. C:\Users\personal file.
   
  Every time we download a file, we are asked to save the file. In the save window slot, we can always choose where we want to save the file by using another computer computer desktop or Documents in the left pane of the window.

  My accountant sent me a file quick books by e-mail and when I try to download Vista wants me to change the extension, but my accountant insists that it will mess up the file. How can I do to get the file in my existing QB location?

  Vista is not asking for a change of the extension - it is the association of file extension that does this (but why does it for download instead of to install it I do not know).  I don't know why your accountant has sent you a file that Quickbooks cannot open - but if he says that changing the extension will mess up the file he's probably right (it probably came from him before).  You must contact Quickbooks support to find out how to download and open the file type, it sent you (assuming he can't - he must have encountered this problem before).  Here is their link of support: http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/Default.aspx.  There may be some complementary product or modification of the requirements which we here do not do anything since it is the Quickbooks program.

  Another option is to go to start / Default programs / associate a file or Protocol with a program / and search for the file type, it has sent to you.  See which program is associated with the file.  If not quickbooks, try setting it to quickbooks to see if that solves the problem (you may need to search for the executable file of quickbooks do association).  I don't know if it works and keep a record of what it was before you made the change so you can change this back in case it is not work - since then, it can mess up another program as well and you don't want to do.

  I'm sorry, we can not be more help, but it's really a problem of Quickbooks and not a Vista problem.

  I have a DVD that I recorded from my old PC.  I can play on Windows Media, but for some reason that I can't download it to this laptop.  Do you know anyway I can download it so I don't have to physically play the DVD every time I want to watch it?  Thank you

  Two methods you could try...

  (1) download and install the freeware VLC
  Media Player.

  (FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
  Restore point before installing software or updates)

  VLC Media Player

  Create a new folder on your hard drive and
  name the same as the DVD.

  Insert the DVD into your DVD drive and close
  all the windows that can launch. Reach... Start /.
  Computer... and right, click the drive letter
  the DVD drive is on and choose open or
  Explore. This will display the directory of the
  DVD.

  Then copy the VIDEO_TS folder of the
  DVD to the folder that you created.

  (right click / copy... right click / Paste)

  To read the DVD... right click on the folder and
  in the menu,... Choose... Play with VLC
  Media Player.

  (2) using the free software Format Factory... you
  can download and convert the video DVD
  a format like WMV, so you can play with
  most any multimedia player... and correct it in film
  Maker.

  * Be aware that the breaking of the protection against copying
  on commercial DVDs is illegal *.

  Choose the WMV format and the left click the
  Convert button. Back on the main screen, left click

  multitasking while video is rendered.

  For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River.   The problem is that MS broke pages when they 'appointed' site for Win8 - and have yet to find how to solve this problem (or are there delay until the launch date).
