  If you know what the license and activation for your security key, you can simply re - install it with the command "activation key" from the global configuration mode.

  If you have lost the key, you'll want to open a support case to get it retrieved.

  You format or reinstall the Windows XP license on the old machine, then it will release the license for use on another machine. You will still need to reactivate by phone after the upgrade to the Windows 7 machine, since the license was already in use.
