Licenses for single processor in a server dual socket

Hi, I keep getting conflicting information regarding the authorization of a CPU socket server two filled with a single processor. The question is what I have to concede to the number of available sockets on a given server even if not all are met? For example, if I have a server for 2 sockets with a single physical processor installed, can I get a license ESX Server for a processor or two outlets available?

I thought that strategy was changed in 2008, according to the statement of VMware (link below), but one of my colleagues contacted VMware support this last July asking this question and I was told that each outlet available should be allowed regardless of if they are populated with a processor.

VMware uniprocessor license policy

It is a new implementation of Enterprise vSphere 4.1 on compatible servers HCL with centralized authorization.

Thank you

You will need the licenses by "processor in a socket.

Capacity of the CPU

Each kit of vSphere or edition is allowed on a per processor basis,

Depending on the number of physical processors (CPUS) on each host.

In the case of the kits of vSphere, the payment listed for the capacity of the CPU

discussed later in this document applies to more than one host.

Visitors can buy and deploy or redeploy any combination of servers,

as required; each processor in a socket may contain multiple cores.

  • License for 2 processors

    Hello

I have an ESXI 4.0 (I think my question is the same for esxi 3.5) on a server with 2 processors so 2 x 4 hearts.

    My question is simple:

    (1) how to activate all the hearts (so 8 covers) on my windows server?

    (2) how to activate 1CPU so 4 cores on a windows server and the second processor on another?

PS: my license: product: ESXi 4 server only allowed for 2 physical processors

    Thx a lot

    Hello

You can have virtual machines with 8 vCPUs with vSphere Enterprise Plus allowed. If you do not have it, you can use that 4 vCPUs.

If you configure 2 virtual machines with 4 vCPUs, is mos likely probable that each virtual machine will use half of your physical CPU. The ESX consumes 1 of them, but not all the time, and control virtual machines so that they can be distributed in an equitable manner between the virtual machines. You can have more vCPUs than physical CPU without problem.

    I hope this helps.

I installed the vmware server esxi 4 and I got the trial version for about a year now. I bought the license for 4 processors to a vmware esxi 5. Does this mean I have to upgrade the current server Vmware esxi 4 to 5 until I can use this license? or will the license so I can do the upgrade later.

    any input will be appreciated.

Yes, the upgrade is very easy.

  • Licensing for the server on the site of DR

Not 100% sure of my terminology as I am new to all this, please bear with me!

At our headquarters, we have a server VMware ESXi 4.0.0 loner and we use vCenter and vSphere 4.0 license (2xCPU).

    So far so good.

At our DR site, we run the free ESXi 4.0.0

The recovery site is not a (live) "hot" site, apart from occasional (once or twice a year) tests where we restore from backups for testing and so on.

We use Veeam backup software, and because their software does not allow direct restore to freedom of ESXi hosts, the restore process is two steps: (1) disk space backup restore temporary; then copy VM to ESXi disk files and start them

I wonder if I can install my licenses for our live Webcam VMware server to the DR server, given that, apart from the occasional tests, they would never at the same time.

It would go directly to the backup media to the ESXi host under license, the restore process, rather than the 2-step process.

    Q. What does VMware allow me to perform with my licenses for a DR scenario?

I have discussed this issue with VMware.

You can use the same license (no need to buy new) for the remote site if there is no load on ESX remote, and just waiting for if something happens.

With Veeam, you can use the replication instead of restore backups.

  • ESXi "a license for 1 CPU?

    Hello

I just activated my free ESXi license, and the status says "a license for 1 CPU. My server has two processors. This means a CPU is not used? Should I buy a license?

    Thanks in advance

Without a doubt. ESX licenses are by physical socket, not by heart. If a singel socket dual core (quad core, hexacore) will appear as a single CPU.

It is rather the confusion by using the term CPU, because it refers to physical CPU (aka socket) and logical CPU (aka core).

  • Windows licensing for vSphere Essentials all Linux virtual machines running

We offer vSphere Essentials and Essentials Plus of application virtualization on a company that currently has 4 servers that run multiple applications under CentOS. The two products are very good values, providing important functionality at a reasonable cost. Yet, society of the end-user has some resistance to the required cost of Windows Server licenses. There is no Windows servers on this network. Even a minimal vSphere Essentials requires usually 3 Windows Server licenses (for the domain controller, vCenter server, and database server) and a SQL server license. Even when using standard licenses, the total cost of these is higher than the cost of the essential elements of vSphere. Other people deploying vSphere Essentials on Linux-oriented networks are finding ways to use a lower number of Windows Server licenses?

vCenter Linux would be an alternative in such cases, but this project seems to be stalled.

    Thank you.

    Welcome to the community,

If you're only going to do the virtualization of servers (not VMware View) the vCenter Server does not need to be a member of the domain, or you need a separate SQL Server for a small environment. The edition of SQL SERVER 2005 Express (included in the vCenter Server installation) is sufficient.

While a single license of Windows (more CALs) would do.

  • WebCenter Capture - how to debug javascript for import processor

Javascript for import processor code is server-side.  Therefore, it does not println in the java console.

How to debug a process of import or of javascript recognition process?

    Thank you

you will use the standard recorder instead of the println function. as you say, that only works for running javascript on the client side.

Do need me a separate license for VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat for a remote SQL Server database?

Only a single vCenter Server Heartbeat license is necessary to protect the components of the vCenter Server installed remotely, including SQL Server. A single license is also used for several UNIQUE for vCenter Server services protected authentication servers. A license is required per instance of vCenter Server.

  • Is it possible under the EULA to have several virtual machines on a single physical hard disk while using the same OS license or do I need a separate license for each virtual computer?

I have several programs that are not compatible with my 64 bit Windows 7 operating system.  I would like to run each different software under another virtual machine of VMWare (5 packs of different software programs and 5 different virtual machines of Windows XP).  These would all be installed on your laptop.  I can use the same license of Windows XP for each virtual machine, or do I need a separate XP license for each (different XP in case 5 licenses)?

It is lifted directly from my EULA:

    1. GRANT OF LICENSE.
The manufacturer that you grant the following rights, provided that
comply you with all terms and conditions of this EULA:
1.1 installation and use.  You may install, use, access,
display and run one copy of the SOFTWARE on
THE COMPUTER.  The SOFTWARE may not be used
by more than two 2-processor both on the
COMPUTER, unless a greater number is
indicated on the certificate of authenticity.
    Then...
This means that as long as you are running two or more instances of XP at the same TIME, you agree? Or does this mean that, after you install once, you have reached your limit?
I imagine that most people (including those who are running Microsoft!) will say that the second interpretation is correct.
    However...
If this is the case, anyone their hard drive as a backup to clone strategy would violate the EULA!
  • Can I buy licenses for multiple users in my team to a single username

    Hello

We have a team of 3 designers. I want to know - can I buy 3 individual licenses for them (2 HAVE + 1 photoshop) user ID unique company? Or do I have to create accounts for them?

Keeping individual licenses in a single account is likely to hit the wall of the "limit" reached when it comes to be connected using the software.   See all creative cloud for teams...

    Creative cloud plans

    https://creative.Adobe.com/plans

I'm not sure of individual licenses. If the individual product team licenses are not available probably don't have accounts created for each person, but if you want to control these accounts and then you have to create them yourself.
