Licenses processor

I recently bought ESX 3.5 Foundation for a socket 2, four hearts (Dell 2950 III) machine. My subscription is active, but all the vsphere licenses say 1 processor.

Is it really support only 1? I am due to deploy the server soon and need to know if I should go to 4 or not.

Hi Ghell,

You should have 2 single processors now for each license VI3 licenses.

1 license VI3 = 2 vSphere licenses

New licensing model covers now 1 pCPU with 1 license.

vSphere 4 Foundation license is also limited to 6 hearts by pCPU

  • Problem with licenses & processors

    Hello

I have a problem about my license environment.

I have 6 ESX with 4 CPU (6 x 4 = 24 licenses). Currently, the ESX has the license evaluation Mode, and it has expired.

Now, I got 12 licenses for 2 CPU (12 x 2 = 24 licenses), but I can't put any of these in my ESX license because the ESX has 4 processors.

Is it possible to configure 2 licenses for a single host? If not, is it possible to merge the 2 licenses in 1?

    Thank you!

a processor licenses can be combined in one of the 2 or 4 CPUS. You must save the vmware site licenses and then you can combine

Also look at the number of cores per processor and the type of license you have.

If you install the version 4.x also do dowgrade licenses. everything is explained in him vmware site in the license section

  • Individual licenses processor and the VMware virtualization environment

    Consider the following text:

    • A 4 core processor is considered as a single processor for licensing purposes with Microsoft software.

    • VMware virtualizes each heart as a logical processor.

    • Microsoft sees those carrots as coming from the same processor?

  • Standard Edition One processor license

    Hello

I'm trying to get to the bottom of licensing for Standard Edition One (and also Standard Edition). I have the price of the licenses processor, but do not know if we must apply the fundamental factors that we use a single multi core processor.

The pdf of the oracle database license States the following:

"+ When licensing Oracle programs with Standard Edition or Standard Edition in the name of the product, a processor is considered equivalent to an outlet; + »

This means so if we have a single-socket quad-core processor, we don't need to apply fundamentals?

All stored advice appreciated, I dig on the site of Oracle, more confused I get.

    Concerning

    John

SE and SE One, licensing is based on the sockets. For, you can have a maximum of 4 Sockets. you don't need to hold the base factor accounts for this. The basic factor applies only in the Enterprise edition. For One allows a maximum of 2 Sockets. Please see the following link for more information:

How many license for oracle processor I. I think that its 48. Can you confirm me in this matter

    concerning
    Nick

The number of processors you are licensed for, or in fact whether you use the processor or the username of licensing, are not stored in the Oracle database. It is in license agreement documents you signed with Oracle when you purchased your license. You should return to this paperwork to get this information.

In addition, if you have 48 cores, it is generally unlikely that you would require 48 licenses processor (at least if you license today the database). Of course, you will have 48 core CPUs, but I guess it's more likely that you have a smaller number of multi-core processors. In which case, you will apply a multiplier of specific material number of nuclei to get the number of required CPU licenses. If you had 12 chips Intel 4 hearts, for example, you would need 24 licenses processor since the Intel multiplier is 0.5. Some chips of Solaris have a coefficient of 0.25. Other chips have a coefficient of 0.75. Given that the rules of Oracle licensing of multi-core chips have changed several times and are likely to continue to change, your license agreement would be critical since you a license of the database to a point in time, if your license agreement sets the terms from that point in time.

  • NSX licenses

    Hello

Please someone explain to me by the cpu for the nsx license model.

in my server environment of 50 hp dl380 g9 and 2 processors per server licnse how shall I buy?

    100?

my environment already have this component:

    vSphere enterprise plus 6

    sute vCloud 6.2.x

Thank you for your reading and sorry for my bad English

    Hello

To clarify a bit, you would only need 100 licenses processors if you want to run NSX on the whole environment.  You can run only on a subset like say a group that needs more security than others for example.  Many clients start this way.

Also, since you're using vCloud Suite, there is a SKU of the add-on for NSX that is not the price full that you would pay NSX on its own.  Finally, so that a large number of licenses, there is no way that you would pay the price - there a lot of things that your VMware sales representative can do with a price at this level.  If you don't know who is your representative, email me directly at [email protected] and I'll you connected.

    Thank you!

  • The host is licensed with VMware vSphere 5 Standard. The license of vCenter Server edition doesn't support VMware vSphere 5 Standard.

So I disconnected a host to vcenter server and now I get this error message when I try to reconnect to this host.  The host has been previously connected without any problem.  Vcenter servers as esxi are 5.5.0.  Anyone had any experience with this?

    Thank you.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you for sure why it worked previously. Maybe it worked with an earlier version, or hosts have been added while vCenter Server was still running in trial mode. Anyway, if you have a license of Essentials for vCenter Server, you must also license processors Essentials the Essentials version is sold as a kit.

  • Your licenses of inquiry for implementing vCenter

    Hello to all,

I declare that I'm new for my knowledge is limited in this area, even if it is you already use ESXi for a while.

Let me give you an overview of my situazine poster can someone help me a decision:

one of my clients has two ESXi servers with virtual machines on board each virtual machine de a service to users and each server has ESXi virtual machines installed different .

My idea was ce .... install a vCenter Management Server somehow unified the 2 ESXi starting from a single console. With the capacity of migrate to hot le a VMS ESXi Server to another, et create clusters of individual virtual machines for If I go down a machine of the first in the second ESXi ESXi J’ai an exact in real time ready to go ()Foult tolerance VMs.

To do I have to buy only the vCenter license or I need to buy licenses for ESXi 2 results currently in production?

I hope that I have been Claire .

Thank you all those who want to Give me a hand .

Yes that's correct. It includes licenses processor vSphere and vCenter Server for Essentials for an environment of up to three guests (until 2CPUs each).

  • Do I really need a server license 5.0 vcenter for my vsphere Enterprise 5.0

Hi all, im new to the Forum vmware and encryption currently in terms of licensing for our small internal data center facility.

My physical features are for licensing

    Guests: 2
    Number of CPUS: 4
    by CPU core: 6
For each host RAM: 32 GB will later expand to 64 GB
and a device to IBM SAN
If I purchase 4 licenses of the company and need to use the FT features and HA I really need the server vcenter license for that?
What will miss if I do not buy the license of vcenter server?
Buy licenses without any SnS that it's expensive, and we want to keep to a bare licensing.
    I thank in advance

It will be possible to lower the cost even more far by going to an ENT AK but with vsphere Foundation? instead of the standard... or is it a fixed regime that cannot be changed.

The Kits are sold as announced. These are especially price of starter kits that can be purchased once per site.

What other discounts can I ask my distributor to provide other than VPP.

Can't help you on this. I'm not even sure if you can get the volume for only 4 licenses processor licensing more vCenter Server.
If above our list price no idea what sort of profit my distribution partner for vmware will do about that?
How are they able to cite much less than these rates mentioned above!
I don't think you will get an answer to these questions. Not sure what your company product, but I'm sure that you don't tell your clients how much profit you make on your products.

  • How to release the unused license?

I have 6 CPU ESXi licenses and when I add my 1 host in the vCenter, he exhausted 2 licenses processors. However, as I need to change the IP address of the host, I remove it from vCenter. After I added the same host with the new IP address, it is used until another 2 CPU licenses. So my vCenter indicate now 2 license CPU remained, despite only, I added 1 host.

How can I get this CPU 2 return license? What should be the appropriate method to eliminate a host of vCenter to ensure that licenses are rejected to the vCenter as well?

    Hello

First of all if you get 2 license registed in the ESX license configuration and then tab, you must remove the license as mentioned in the following, and then restart the vcenter server and then add the license of the particular host

    MEASURES

Go to the configuration / license section.  Licensed features / ESX License Type.  Click CHANGE.

Change to Unlicense.  (Note: it will tell you that any license that is held on this server is not removed).  so if you use Server licenses, this should take care of it and 'return' of the license on the server.

  • Licenses and versions

I am looking for a right reference chart showing the features and different versions (free, Foundation, standard, professional, essentials, etc...). I would also like to know the CPU and the limits of memory for each version, but also license options to get more memory/CPU available in each version. There was a table like this with older versions, but it is outdated. I would like a table for 4.1 and 5.

Anyone know if such a thing exists?

Yes, the Essentials package consists of a vCenter Server for Essentials license as well as 6 licenses processors (3 guests with up to 2 processors) with 32 GB vRAM right each, 192 GB vRAM benefit altogether) pooled by the vCenter server instance). There are no more limits on cores per processor with vSphere 5.0.

  • much more 2 cpu license

    Hi all

I have a license issue. I have 2 servers with a single processor on each server 6core. each server has 64 gbb total ram = 128 on both. If I buy more essential is ok with the ram? because he said that 32 GB per CPU license more essential. Do I need to add other cpu on each server to complete 32gbx4cpu = 128 gb?

    Welcome to the community,

the vRAM in vSphere 5 is pooled by the vCenter Server for all guests. Because Essentials kits are delivered with 6 licenses processors, you can have a total of 192GB vRAM on all hosts.

  • VMware and SQL licenses

Does anyone know how SQL 2008 licenses work with virtual machines.

For example, I bought a license for SQL 2008 but say 1 processor I wanted to run this as a virtual machine but the esxi host server has 2 physical 6 core cpu installed.

Is this possible or should I buy 2 licenses processors?

I tried searching on the web, but I keep finding conflicting answers.

    Thank you very much

  • Licensing SQL Server

I have a question of license for SQL server. According to the program of Microsoft for SQL Enterprise edition license, if you have this version you can run multiple virtualized SQL server instances you want on a host until you have enough processor licenses to cover the number of physical sockets on the box. Which holds true for the client to the virtual computer that you are running on the host? Let's say you have a database server of the double Socket 6 buy you 2 licenses processor of SQL Server Enterprise. Then, you create a single virtual machine 8 processor for sql server. The license you buy already cover the VM since you the license two physical Sockets? In addition, vmware ESX gives you the opportunity to present a dual core processor or quad at the prompt, I saw in my computer, the opportunity to do that, but have not seen it in ESX.

  • SRM licensing confusion

I apologize if this has been answered before but I'm a little confused and I don't know if I have the correct information. We have two datacenters each with the hosts and a SAN (4 guests in the primary, 3 in recovery site) and MRS. configured. All virtual machines running in the primary data center, so at some point only runs "protected" of machines.

I was going through the SRM documentation when I came across this statement:

Protection enablement license key (SRM_PROTECTED_HOST) that specifies the number of CPU of ESX that can run virtual machines protected on a site. Install this key on the protected site to allow failover. Install it to recover and filed to allow two-way operation (BACKSPACE).

The material in the primary is obviously better if we would have a RS worthy failure we would obviously like to AUTO restoration to the main site when he is back running. Thus my confusion is, is it said to copy the SAME set of licenses (in this case 8 licenses processors) to the two servers VC\SRM? Or because we want we would have to buy additional licenses (14 in total CPU) and apply 6 additional on DR Site failback?

I would like to say that we had just use\transfer licenses in the case of a failure of the automatic restore procedure. But if we were in virtual machines in a split (half in each Datacenter) mode, where we could switch in both directions, then we would need all the processors in the two centers of license data.

    Thank you

Sorry, should have been more careful in his response.  The part of the break-up of the license file is on your scenario '... ". If we were running VMs in a split view (half in each Datacenter)

where we could switch in both directions, then we would need to

all processors in the two centers of license data. "Apologies for the lack of the fact that there is an 'if' in this.

If you only run a VMs protected site you would have to split the license file, as you say.   You install it next to the production, and then after the failover, you could install the same license on the side of recovery file to enable failback.
