SRM licensing confusion

I apologize if this has been answered before but I'm a little confused and I don't know if I have the correct information. We have two datacenters each with the hosts and a SAN (4 guests in the primary, 3 in recovery site) and MRS. configured. All virtual machines running in the primary data center, so at some point only runs "protected" of machines.

I was going through the SRM documentation when I came across this statement:

Protection enablement license key (SRM_PROTECTED_HOST) that specifies the number of CPU of ESX that can run virtual machines protected on a site. Install this key on the protected site to allow failover. Install it to recover and filed to allow two-way operation (BACKSPACE).

The material in the primary is obviously better if we would have a RS worthy failure we would obviously like to AUTO restoration to the main site when he is back running. Thus my confusion is, is it said to copy the SAME set of licenses (in this case 8 licenses processors) to the two servers VC\SRM? Or because we want we would have to buy additional licenses (14 in total CPU) and apply 6 additional on DR Site failback?

I would like to say that we had just use\transfer licenses in the case of a failure of the automatic restore procedure. But if we were in virtual machines in a split (half in each Datacenter) mode, where we could switch in both directions, then we would need all the processors in the two centers of license data.

Thank you

Sorry, should have been more careful in his response.  The part of the break-up of the license file is on your scenario '... ". If we were running VMs in a split view (half in each Datacenter)

where we could switch in both directions, then we would need to

all processors in the two centers of license data. "Apologies for the lack of the fact that there is an 'if' in this.

If you only run a VMs protected site you would have to split the license file, as you say.   You install it next to the production, and then after the failover, you could install the same license on the side of recovery file to enable failback.

  • SRM licenses for the recovery of bi-directional

    Hello

For some reason any I can't seem to find a clear answer for the new license model for MRS...

Does anyone know if you still SRM on the two sites of license if you want to use two-way recovery (IE failover Site A to Site B, then the auto restore)?

So if I had a single license of SRM and had 25 VMS in the protection group, should I buy a license to Site A and one for Site B or the single license now allows me to failover and failback because licenses are tied to the VMS and not to the host CPU?

I know in the past with per cpu licenses you have to two sites of license if you want to implement bidirectional recovery (because the licenses were related to the host CPU), but with the license model now move to 25 licenses VM by, is this still the case or can I use the license for 25 virtual machines on both sites?

On another note, if I wanted only to protect 10 VMS, then cut out the license, so only 10 VMs are protected at Site A and 10 virtual machines on Site B?

    Thank you very much...

    Anthony

    Hello

Bidirectional protection means that both sites have protected running VMs (each site is 'protected' and 'recovery' at the same time, also called active).

In this case, you will need to authorize all VMs protected on both sites.

This is not your case, however, if I understand correctly.

In your situation, you will need to purchase licenses only for VMs protected at the main site. After failover, you can reuse the license key to set up a protection in the opposite direction (from secondary to primary school). After a failover, you can use the same key to license again.

Generally, the number of licenses you need equals the number of protected VMs. BTW, it's okay by processors also licenses, you only need to license protected running VMs on main site hosts and can reuse the key to perform a backspace.

  • License confusion

    Hi friends

We are currently running Oracle 10 G standard edition licensed named user which pretty well covers the users accessing the oracle database. We need to evolve our application to incorporate features such as the reports based on the internal portal dashboard, but consumers of these reports are not the typical users of the software and so they are not covered by the oracle license. To remedy this, we plan to develop an application Live Feed that will extract the data from the oracle database and insert it into MYSQL Database. So all additional users must not buy oracle license. Is this kind of a Setup accepted by oracle and considered as legal. Kindly require feedback from you guys.

If youre filling mysql via a db link your prod DB then you have exhibitions but if you are extracting a file via a (blahblah sqlplus/odbc/jdbc) ETL tool and THEN do something after that, then you should be good. Oracle does not care what you do with your data once you get out.

If you do it through youre dblink exhibiting the characteristics of the database elsewhere, and this is what would charge you ora.

Does anyone know if it is possible to extract information on licensing vCenter Site Recovery Manager using PowerCLI?

I would like to know how many licenses have been installed and is in use.

I also watched Connect-SRMServer and extensiondata available but can't find anything associated with license.

If you use "VMware License Server Tools" and look at the "Services Config" tab, you can see 'Path to the license file"set to 'C:\Program VMware license Server\Licenses'. If this is the case, change the location to match the location of your SRM (and VC) licensing files and restart the service.

When you look in the Administration/Licensing under Virtual Infrastructure Client tab, you should see "SRM" listed under the features under license.

  • Implement the SRM

    Hello

We have a physical primary site with 2 Vmware 10 computers virtual hosts running between them.

I want to set up a secondary site with MRS for two guests.  Ideally, I would like to place a single host more-spec of the secondary site.

We currently have a standard license for Vsphere 5 with Foundation VCentre license.

Please, can someone advise what additional licenses would be required for SRM.

    Thank you

The same SRM license key can be used on both sites. I do not have the secondary license site vCenter.

  • vSphere Licensing

I am a student doing a project where I need to develop a virtual infrastructure. I chose VMware since I am more familiar with their products.

The project includes two sites and a total of 15 people. In the beginning, I chose the vSphere Essentials Plus kit. I have 2 servers on the main site and 1 to the other site. I was going to buy an additional vCenter of license and 2 licenses SRM server. Basically, with the configuration of the infrastructure with the ability to replication on the other site and raise all reviews virtual machines on the server in the other site as a form of DR. The more research I do, the more I see how it is not extensible in the future. I also wonder if it is still possible given the licensing restrictions.

I did research on vSphere standard edition because I believe that it is probably a better option. I have a few questions about how the licenses work as this edition has more factors involved.

From my research, this is what I have gathered.

vSphere Standard edition with basic support is $1715.72 - is that physical price by UC?

I would also like, more than one instance of vCenter (1 for each site). Do I need to purchase a license additional vCenter, or y at - it a pack containing 2 licenses?

In addition, in order to have the capacity to DR, would need RS. Do I need 2 licenses of MRS?

Is anyway to get the price for all this? I was not able to find the price of the additional licenses.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hi Welcome to the communities,

you need a single vSphere Standard/ORL/Ent + per socket/physical CPU license, Yes.

About MRS. you should take a look at vSphere replication. It is included in all standard vSphere licenses and of better quality. Perhaps it meets your needs, as a SRM license for up to 75 VMs would cost about $7000, I think.

As you said you are a student, you're doing this project for a University? You may get lower prices then.

I would contact the commercial service of VMware for the best info:

  • Please explain vSphere licenses

Hi, I had looked into the site Web of VMware and google about VMware vSphere 4 acceleration Kit advanced... but the more I read the more it confuses me. I'm looking to implement this solution in my company.

A bit more about my knowledge in this area. I attended a vmware vsphere training before, but the license confuses me.

Regarding the VMware vSphere 4 Advanced acceleration Kit, he says cores per processor (12) and processor supported (6)... What does this actually mean?

Does this mean that the license that I'll pay cover for 6 CPU? but whence 'Cores' comes into this equation?

Also is this license is for a single payment or must be renewed each year?

I have relatively new about this.

I looked at Intel documentation but I have not seen a server that has 12 cores? Maybe I'm wrong or just a lack of understanding on my part.

    Help, please.

    Thank you.

I suggest getting a consolidation tool as PlateSpin PowerRecon on your network to determine what exactly you want to virtualize - then decide on the material you want to use to do this - and then ultimately hold the get a dealer to determine the license model is appropriate.

If it's going to be a big project, enter a consultant to design and spec it correctly.

If you get the right person to, the money spent will be returned in savings / performance etc - so it is worth investigating.

  • deployment of Site Recovery Manager (SRM)

If I want to deploy a DR solution with failover and failback, would I need a set (which is based on the sockets on a protected host) SRM license per site (a game for the DR site vCenter) and one for the production site vCenter?

    Hello

Here you can get some info about the license per - VM model, supported with MRS 4.1:

    http://www.VMware.com/support/licensing/per-VM/

In the two by VM and decision-making models, you can buy licenses only for your protected site. After a failover, you can reuse the same licenses to perform a backspace.

  • Issue of licences SRM

I'm planning my system now. My boss went ahead and bought some of the SRM licenses. I intend simply to protect my main site to a single restore site. I have three ESX host with two procs on the main site. I know that I need a second license of Virtual Center for the recovering site. Do I need two licenses of server MRS? I have one now. I have also only licensed processor SRM. I need five more. Is this correct?

    -Patrick

You must count the number of sockets ESX site protected (in your case, 6).

And, as you say, add a new Victoria Cross.

  • Only VC currently - planning the implementation of SRM

Hi all, I read the page sup-100 (planned for a plu guide?), Administrator's Guide as well as the of the evaluator and guide "Notice."

I did not see anything in the official docs/pdf files that address the apparently common scenario in which a given customer is responsible for the implementation of SRM, and said customer has always (so far) an implementation of simple-VirtualCenter in which there are 2 or more virtual datacenters (and their hosts/clusters) extending over 2 or more physical sites/locations.  What IS very clear documentation, that is, before the SRM being installed, the customer must have the following in place: 2 VirtualCenters (and their databases), 2 license servers (and their respective records of LIC) and 2 servers RS (and their data).

So I draw some negative findings/conclusions and would appreciate confirmation because it is uncharted territory for me and we have been a store VC 'single' since the time of ESX 2.5:

    1. I need to 'split' my world to a single VirtualCenter that handles all my guests/clusters and all my virtual machines.

    2. I need to divide my license file in 2 low-income instead of the unique ICA is now.  (I already bought all the necessary licenses, I will need, including a 2nd license VC, and SRM licenses for each cpu on the host computers that will be 'protected')

    3. I inform my fellow admins (I'm in charge of welfare of ESX in my company) that hosts 'Site A' and the vm and the clusters will be managed by pointing to the current instance of the VC, whereas 'Site B' vm and clusters, etc., that were PREVIOUSLY managed on Site is now managed the new instance 'Site B' VC...

How go on this redistribution/splitting of the implementations of VC and the files license and databases is entirely mine.  Is that hard to understand, but it needs to be done, regardless, before the installation of SRM.  Site A VC will handle everything in Site A and VC of the Site B will handle everything in period of Site b...

Thank you all... and if there is anything in any docs related to the foregoing (in which the user Bob must transition from a simple VC 2 VCs), sorry I missed it-please advise.

Your assumptions are correct, you will need to have two virtual centres as well as two licenses, servers, databases, VC and SRM SRM and don't forget 2 without for the storages of replicated data. If you think about it, it makes sense, since the purpose of SRM is DR having 2 of all eliominates a single point of failure.  Now regarding how to split the VC isngle two - I know not all guide, but it's going to be a manual process to remove guests from the VC original he and adding them to the new VC in the Dr site

  • No download purchased images!

Two things I have a problem with...

    1. impossible to download the images that are already purchased in my license file! My cache or cookies are clear... tried another browser, tried logging works for nothing!

    2. two days when I just registered here, I clicked on a lot of images thinking they're going to a folder, but they were allowed instead! I asked for help in a similar thread, but got no response from anyone! Now I have lots of images that I didn't buy another 3 pages. I want my credit back!

But in any case, I can't even download anything from my folder under license, the 1 image, I bought just bonhomie that I need to download NOW can not be downloaded! Please help as soon as possible because I'm on the maturity of the project! And since picture dollar sent me here I am a little weary of the license confusion buttons vs records and no response from admin on this during two days!

I also tried to contact support, and he said I can't call and sent me to the forums here and the FAQ.

Yes, I thought that this way as well yesterday! Its great that you have inserted images, this will help others as well! I don't understand why they can more easily and have a button to download directly on the page next to each image purchased licensed...

And I also... I will miss CFL for the exact reasons!

  • Fault tolerance allows to recover from the disaster without... possible downtime?

Hi, I have two different places the same data centers in my company and I intend to make them reduntant and high available, without downtime in case of failure. I considered buying a SRM license, but I discovered that in case of failure, you will need to manually start a recovery data center recovery plan, and until that happens all virtual machines are down. So I think that if it is possible to configure 2 groups of data storage in the same virtual data center, each group in different physical locations, select FT for all the virtual machines, and then store virtual machines in the first group of data store and store the secondary instances on the second group of data store , so in case of failure of the main data center physical FT stars secondary instances that are in the secondary physical datacenter. Is - this viable?

Yes, Dell only the HDS, Bay of storage is officially supported. You can go to the VMware hardware compatibility list, select the category of storage/SAN and Array Test Configuration, select iSCSI or FC storage clustered Metro to see the bays supported.

However, even if you had a compatible table vMSC it would be a few other prerequisites. Metro Storage Clusters rely on replication synchronous table to avoid failure in the event of a failure of table. This obviously means that redundant low-latency dark fibre would be required between the sites. Which adds to the cost a bit.
