The host is licensed with VMware vSphere 5 Standard. The license of vCenter Server edition doesn't support VMware vSphere 5 Standard.

So I disconnected a host to vcenter server and now I get this error message when I try to reconnect to this host.  The host has been previously connected without any problem.  Vcenter servers as esxi are 5.5.0.  Anyone had any experience with this?

Thank you.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you for sure why it worked previously. Maybe it worked with an earlier version, or hosts have been added while vCenter Server was still running in trial mode. Anyway, if you have a license of Essentials for vCenter Server, you must also license processors Essentials the Essentials version is sold as a kit.

  • The upgrade to vCenter Server to vCenter Server 5.1 5.1 update 1 when the SQL database is remote and vCenter Server Heartbeat is installed

    Hi guys,.

I'm in the middle of an upgrade to vSphere 5.1 5.1 vSphere update 1. I have vCenter protected by HB and SQL on a separate computer (also protected by HB) I also run Syslog, Update Manager and Proxy authentication on vCenter.

I've successfully upgraded HB on all 4 nodes (2 x vCenter & 2 x SQL) and started the upgrade components on the secondary according to the •vCenter Server Heartbeat 6.5 server and vCenter Update 1 Installation on Windows Server 2008 when the secondary server is virtual (PDF) http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vcenter-server-heartbeat-65-u1-installation-windows-2008-virtual-guide.pdf

    I got to step 3.c

    3. change the primary/active server role:

a launch of the vCenter Server Heartbeat wizard configure server and click the tab of the Machine to change the server role for the current server (primary) to the active State and click Finish.

b using the Service Control Manager, start the Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter service.

c using the vCenter Server Heartbeat Console, check that all the status icons on the server: summary page are green indicating that the boot process is completed and protected from all the services are started.

d using the Service Control Manager, stop the service Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter.

As the vCenter service does not start, I'm stuck at this point. As far as I'm concerned, the error is quite logical. I've updated vCenter using the secondary server, and then I'm trying to connect (according to the guide) with another version that breaks down.

If I continue with the services stop and launch the installer SSO, it is trying to perform an uninstall!

Did I miss something in this upgrade?

    Hello

I have ESXi (free licenses) servers. I want to make snapshots regualar usin the CLI to a virtual machine. This is not possible with the free version. Is it possible to buy a vSphere Standard edition license to activate these features, without vCenter Server?

The best way to "unlock" the CLI is to get Essentials edition. No need to setup the vCenter server.

  • Errors in the charge installing vcenter Server 5.5 with respect to the SQL database

I do a new install of vCenter Server 5.5 on a new Windows 2008 R2 server. The database for this facility is pointing at a 32-bit Windows 2003 SP2 server. I installed SQL Native Client 10.0 on server vCenter Server 64-bit, and then I could make my DSN ODBC 64-bit connection. The vCenter Server install could very well recognize it, but after the installation got going he wrong on the database with the following error:

Error 25003.Setup cannot create vCenter Server repository. The main reasons for this failure are:

-The database is installed using insensitive case.

-The database is remote and the client database version does not match the database version. If this problem continues to persist, see KB 1003960 for further assistance.

Well, I know that the version of the client and the version of database do not match. SQL native client on the sql server is 9.00.5000.00 and the version on the server vCenter Server is 10.50.1600.1.

I know that this version of vCenter is compatible with an installation of 32-bit sql server 2005 on a 32-bit server, 2003.

I am not familiar too if they want upgrade me sql native client on the sql server, but is not compatible with the version of sql server on this server and there are several database for other applications on this server, so I don't want to jump into something like that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

I install the native client SQL 2005 and give a shot.

  • Ripping a 4.1 host in a new 5.5 Cluster WITHOUT access 4.1 vCenter Server

I have a client who has his 2 4.1 vSphere hosts in a cluster of vCenter 4.1 which is NOT under its control or access. vCenter server access is with a 3rd party that he is nervous on his account supported by a new provider. I'm looking for the safest method (preferable without interruption) to import these 2 hosts into a whole new vSphere 5.5 cluster with 2 new hosts and vCenter 5.5 server. He has access to individual hosts via the vSphere Client as well as its local based NAS storage where the virtual machine of the resident. The end result is vMotion and Storage vMotion, virtual machine on the new guests and new storage without interruption then remove the old hosts.

This is possible without any downtime of the virtual machine. However, as you deploy new fresh vCenter again, you will need to reconfigure settings HA/DRS. Also, since you have no control over the old vCenter, given old vCenter performance you can't as well. If you don't care about performance data, you're good to go.

Here's how you can make this migration:

    1. deploy the new vCenter: for your condition: vCenter device will work just fine: reference:http://www.virten.net/2013/09/vmware-vcenter-server-appliance-5-5-vcsa-limitations/

    2. create the cluster on new vCenter, set up the same.  first add your new ESXi 5.5 clustered host. Make sure that the shared on the old host ESXi storage is visible on the new host as well. If it is not possible, you can run without shared as well storage vMotion. Reference:VMware vSphere 5.1

    3. now you can add your old webhost to the new cluster, make sure that vMotion requirement are already configured:

    Documentation Centre of vSphere 5.5

    4. Add your old host to new cluster. Once you add these ESXi host in new vCenter, both will be disconnected automatically old vCenter. If your host processors are different, you must enable EVC: make sure you understand impact of the VCA, the same configuration.

  • Choice of the database for vCenter Server 5 install on Windows Server 2003

    Hi all.

We have an environment of health care small assisted living with a dozen sites/servers.

A server has 3 VMw4 vms on it.

We received two new servers each with ESXi installed 5. They will host several virtual machines of Windows Server for most of the migration of the current VMw4.

I want to install vCenter Server 5 to manage.

My book of VMware by Lowe, he mentions that the provided SqlExp08 is fine for 5 guests and 50 virtual machines.

Us will never get more than that, probably.

However, the server I want to install vCSrv5 on already has installed some Sql05 and Sql08 in use by other applications.

These applications will be migrated to our new virtual machines later with their respective db.

    My questions are:

    (1) should I install vCSrv5 and use the provided SqlExp08 and just let it go at that? Should the PB is on another drive or should she be on a different server?

    (2) can I install using an instance of Sql05 or Sql08 that is already installed?

I'm not sure about the impacts later when I migrate the few applications that currently use Sql05/Sql08.

I'm not a DBA, but a dedicated database would seem to be the best.

Do not forget that once our virtual machines installed vCSrv5 probably make much since most of the features are for large environments with multiple virtual machines.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

The VM 5 host 50 thing is not applied hard.

If you use the DB delivered, it will be on the same machine as the CV.

Also a database dedicated to VC is the preferred option.

  • Withdrawal of the baselines to vcenter server level

    Hello

I am writing a PowerCLI custom script to clean up an individual cluster. One of the steps I want to perform before the reorganization is to ensure that all * existing attached * base lines are detached so that the script is not remedy against those but only the past as a parameter. The process of posting I want to follow is loose:

    (1) at the level of the vcenter server.

    (2) at the level of the data center.

    (3) the parent folder level.

    (4) the cluster itself.

    (5) all hosts in the cluster.

All work fine, with the exception of the 1. For example

    $vcenterBL = get-Baseline-entity 'vcenter.domain.com '.
    If ($vcenterBL - no $null)
    {
Write-Output "withdrawal schedules attached to the server vCenter. level.
    Detach-Baseline-entity "vcenter.domain.com" - reference $vcenterBL - confirm: $false
    }

    However, I get the error:

    Get-database: 05/08/2012-16:22:37 Get-reference found InventoryItem with the name 'vcenter.domain.com '.
    On line: 1 char: 13

    + CategoryInfo: ObjectNotFound: (vcenter.domain.com:String) [Get-Baseline], VimException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId: Core_ObnSelector_SelectObjectByNameCore_ObjectNotFound, VMware.VumAutomation.Commands.Get base

Get-stocks show indeed, no "vcenter.domain.com". How to detach or attach to this level?

    Thanks for any help!

You can use the folder hidden data centers.

    Something like that

    $entity = Get-Folder Datacenters $vcenterBL = Get-Baseline -Entity $entity if($vcenterBL -ne $null)
    {
         Write-Output "Removing baselines attached at the vCenter server level."     Detach-Baseline -Entity $entity -Baseline $vcenterBL -Confirm:$false}

  • How can I safely expand the vdisk my vCenter server located on?

Hey all, I'm a fairly recent convert to VMware and I really like what it has to offer. I'm still learning about it even after my class a week about a month ago. My current dilemma is that my vCenter server is a virtual machine sitting on a 120 GB vdisk but when I go to the summary page for this virtual machine storage usage is 124,17 GB. I was going to close vCenter and vSphere Client software to increase the size of the disk, but I was afraid that that affect my running virtual machines? I tried Googling and couldn't find anything definitive either way. So, can I safely stop vCenter and increase its size to drive this way? If this is not the case, what is the best way to increase the size of the disk?

    Thank you

    Joe B

Assuming that it is a virtual Windows machine (vCenter Server is also available as a Linux-based appliance) you don't need to shut down the guest operating system. Just resize the virtual disk of the virtual machine in the virtual machine settings and then increase the size of the partition in the disk of the guest Manager.

BTW. used 124 GB drive space intended to trade files of the virtual machine, and a few configuration files.

  • The upgrade to vCenter Server 5.5 U1 beat vCO AD Plugin

    Hey guys,.

I've recently updated vCenter Server (under Windows) to 5.5 U1, and so vCO has been upgraded to the latest version as well. It seems that the AD plugin has been upgraded to 1.0.4 - 763 and now can not be configured correctly. The vCO newspapers give the following:

We do not use LDAPS, LDAP standard, so I don't see why we would receive an exception of encryption, and the 'ConfigurationManager' null configuration object is interesting.

Is it possible to reset the configuration of the plugin, re-establish a connection, and try again? I prefer not to reinstall this vCO, as we have done a lot of configuration.
