Hi sdbaker,

Welcome to Windows Vista answers Forums!

I would like to ask you a few questions in order to get a better understanding of this issue so that we can better help you.

(a) what version of Vista are you using?

(b) you are using Windows live messenger or other programs like Skype to chat?

First, try the following steps to check if you can get her on the cam of life.

1. click on Start, select Control Panel and click on sounds.

2. click Audio, and then click the Microphone. Then click on the drop down and select camera Microphone.

3. click OK and it should work.

LifeCam must be installed on the program, with which they should be used. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or programs such as Skype. Each program has Options that must be configured for the Audio and video to function properly. If you use Windows Live messenger, then follow the below steps to configure the audio and video options:

1. Start Windows Live Messenger.

2. on the Tools menu, click on Audio video Setup /.

Note: If you don't see the menu bar in Windows Live Messenger, click the Show menu icon, and then click Show menu bar.

3. in the Audio and video Setup Wizard, click Next.

4. follow the directions in the wizard for Configure the audio options and video options in Windows Live Messenger.

5. click on Startand then click run.

6. type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:

Mmsys.cpl

7. click on the Audio tab, select the use only default devices check box, and then click OK.

Note: when you enable the option use only default devices, headphones or microphone is automatically detected by the e-mail software.
