Lightroom 4.4 & MacOSX Mavericks 10.9.4 unable to repair corrupted catalog

So as the title suggests, I have a problem fix my corrupted catalog. Not sure that in the slightest how the catalog corrupted itself. Am that I just shit out of luck trying to recover my photos! I run a photography business, and it's not good. I backup whenever I go out of Lightroom, I again have my computers and then take backups of my bank vault.

I started a new catalog and then tried to import a previous catalogue and he says it's in use by another computer.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

-Seth

Well, if you can open a recent backup of your catalog file, and you do not receive this message, then I would say that the backup is not damaged and you need to use.

    Hi evab,.

Launch Lightroom with the key Alt pressed which should bring the dialog box choose the catalog to open.

Choose to create the catalog of this dialog box and go to the file menu > import from another catalog > choose your main catalog and check if you are able to import from it.

  • Urgent help repair 6 Lightroom Catalog "Lightroom encountered problems reading or writing to the disk when you try to repair the catalog»

My Lightroom Catalog worked perfectly until 2 days ago.

When I try to open my catalog this error message pop up

    Untitled.png

And when I try to repair my catalog a green bar progress displays briefly, then this pop up.

    hddhjdhj.jpg

I clicked on 'Retry' several times but it still does not work. My catalog is on an external hard drive with 1.46 TB of free space. I use Lightroom 6 on a laptop with Windows 8.

    I tried other things:

    • Looking for a .lock file delete
    • Create a new catalog and import the other catalog in it (when I try to it says "Lightroom cannot import this catalog.) This catalog doesn't seem to be a valid Lightroom Catalog.')

Help, please! I have not all backups with that I can restore my catalog. I am a student in photography and it would be extremely annoying that I lost all my edits/flags of this catalogue.

    You never solved this problem?

I am totally confused and aren't sure what to do next.

You need a new external drive, and you need to STOP using your old.

There is no real repair a hard drive once it starts to miss. Of course you can repair the file structure, but it's to get the file there. Once a drive starts to go wrong it will never get better or even remain the same.

  • I use Lightroom 4.4 on windows 8. Less than 500 photos on the catalog and the catalog size is currently at 2.16 GB. Lightroom works fine, but I'm taking a risk by leaving the catalog to grow beyond 2 GB?

I use Lightroom 4.4 on windows 8. If I have less than 500 photos on the catalog, I do a lot of alterations and cleaning of the images and therefore the size of the catalogue is currently at 2.16 GB. Lightroom works fine, but I'm taking a risk by leaving the catalog to grow beyond 2 GB? Should I close it and start a new catalog? Thanks for your suggestions.

Many local adjustments (brush strokes, spot healing) can have a huge impact on the overall size of the catalog because they are all saved as stages of the individual history and so I wouldn't worry - there is nothing wrong with your catalog. See my thread here since a few years back: which affects the size of the Lightroom catalog file? where Rob Cole usefully thought of it for me.

You could delete the history if you wanted and that I'd be willing to bet that the size would be reduced considerably. That said, my catalog file is larger than 10 GB (as I do a lot of local changes as stated in the thread I linked to) and it causes no problem at all, apart from resulting in a backup of slow catalogue (my previews resume another 30 GB or more). I have not yet felt the need for the history of the Reformation, but doing so probably would increase my catalog to about 1 GB, so it's an option if size becomes a problem for me.

My advice: continue anyway and don't worry in this regard.

  • Flash Player install hangs at 95%, 10.9 MacOSX (Mavericks)

I followed all the instructions for her completely uninstall Flash Player. I followed instructions on a 'Clean' reinstall FP. I tried to install 10 FP for Mac instead of PS 11. I created a new user account and tried installing FP. all attempts to have the same result - Flash Player reaches 95% and crashes then just forever.

I should mention that this issue arose after a clean installed 10.9 MacOS on a new hard drive with the old data user migrated to old hard drive according to best practices, etc. Is there a Setup log that I can send to any clues as to what is causing failure to install?

I redid all the uninstall/clean reinstall procedure, including spotlight search for almost any file including 'flash' 'player' in the title, deleted everything, rebooted, checked again that all caches, plugins, managers, etc., which had nothing to do with Flash Player have been deleted... once again mounted the following file:

    install_flash_player_11_osx.dmg

    who came from:

    http://fpdownload.Macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/licensing/Mac install_flash_player_11_osx.dmg

and I tried the new installation - same result - crashes at 95%.  I was about to 'hang up' myself, I remembered that some people had had the chance check out the file "Adobe Flash Player.pkg" Installer and just this program installation. I realized that I had tried this before with the Flash Player install downloaded by going to adobe.com-->--> Flash Player downloads, etc., but never found this .pkg file downloaded and mounted .dmg. However, it occurred to me that I had not watched the file in the stand-alone installation program mentioned above. Of course, it's there, I ran - Flash Player installed in a blink of eye, and probably at least 5-6 hours to tackle this problem, I have had success.

    Here's what I did:

1 launched the referenced above and downloaded .dmg file

    2. the mounted volume contains the folder 'Install Adobe Flash Player.app'. I did click right on the application and choose "Show Package content"

    3. I went to: contents-> resources and found the file "Adobe Flash Player.pkg.

    4. I hold the option key pressed and drag to create a copy on my desk.

    5. I double-clicked on the file above on my desk and then just follow the guests to install Flash Player.

It seems to me that it is an Adobe problem they need to fix.

  • 6 Lightroom would be able to read and work with photos in a catalog, Lightroom CC should I decide to cancel my membership at some point in the future?

I'll download and use Lightroom CC but want to know what are my options should one day cancel the subscription of the CC.

I know that quite simply cancel the subscription would mean that there is more access to the develop module. A person could cancel the subscription, buy the stand-alone program and continue to have full access to the pictures of the catalogue including changes?

    Yes

(By the way, the photos are not "in the catalogue")

  • How does Lightroom 5 update affect existing collections of Revel published in my LR catalog?

    Hello

I currently use the plug-in Lightroom 4 Revel to publish collections of Revel. If I understand correctly, the Revel plug-in is more included in Lightroom 5 but must be downloaded and installed separately. This isn't a problem, but I wonder what will happen to my existing Revel collections that I published in Lightroom 4 when I update my library Lightroom 5.

If the plugin LR4 is disabled or uninstalled the LR5 upgrade so I guess my Revel collections created in the LR4 will not be migrated to LR5 (given that the Revel plug-in is not installed in the LR5 during the upgrade process, but must be installed afterwards). This probably means that the relationship between collections of Revel in my catalog and collections in the cloud of Revel will be lost. Is this correct? If so, will the collections Revel automatically re-created in LR5 once I have installed the plug-in and log in to Revel? Or do I have to recreate all Revel in LR5 collections manually so that they are found again in the cloud of Revel?

    Kind regards

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

When you update your catalog Lightroom 4 to 5 of Lightroom, the Revel publish collections will be intact.  However, you must install and activate the plugin Revel in Lightroom 5 until you can access your collections to publish.  Once you have the plugin set up, you can continue working with your collections as you did in Lightroom 4.  You will not need to recreate the collections.

  • If Lightroom import parameters of the disc or replace the disc of the catalog settings

When the 'up' arrow key appears in a thumbnail and comes up with the message:

The metadata for one or more of these photos has been changed by another application. Lightroom import settings from disk or replace drive with the catalog settings?

What exactly means?  This seems to happen every time I have to export an image in PS (CS5) and back to LR.  What has changed exactly?  Which settings are imported if I choose "import settings from disk."

I think it would be best to not think in terms of what LR 'applies' changes. Because LR stores the changes made in the catalog, the changes are "applied" to the image on export. I think that it would be preferable to use the term 'view' instead of 'apply '.

Then: when LR, you open a RAW image in PS the LR-changes made until then are displayed in PS and then "apply" when you save a PS (don't forget PS CS5 opens the RAW image).

If you do more edits in PS and save these, LR will display these changes - you will then notice on back of the PS, LR will be re - load the image. On 'Save' PS applies (and here the term 'applicable' is correct) the changes by writing them in the image file. LR reads the saved file and displays it with PS-changes.

But the LR catalog settings are still in the State of the point in time before you open the image in PS. It is so because PS writes the changes to the image file and not in the LR catalog. So now you have a set of changes in the LR catalog and another set of changes in the image file.

To describe it as ' a little 'too top' with the PS applied, changes but it really has not applied the "isn't making the case because LR 'applies' only to export. LR doing at this stage is read the image with PS-changes file and display the image accordingly.

But LR "feels" that what is displayed is not what is in the catalog online.

This is the conflict that Lr wants to solve by popping the message.

You say "if so, then you really would like to import settings from disk so that the file will be PS changes, right?  "

Yes, if you wish that your changes-PS to replace your previous changes LR.

Now, I came to where I do not fixtures in PS that I can do in LR - and I do not fixtures in LR that PS is preferable to a workflow.

In practice: in PS, I do the cloning and also noise reduction when the LR - NR is not enough (for example in the noisy analyses).

I don't do any tonal or color adjustments to the PS because it is easier in Lr and gives me better results.

When the message appears, select 'Replace disk settings' - it keeps all Lr changes and does not overwrite the cloning.

  • 5.6 Lightroom cc for Mac and Canon 6 d when adding to the catalog file corruption

    Hello

I was testing my newly purchased (August 5, 2014) Canon 6 d camera shooting through the window of a car in motion and also to wander. I used the setting scene Intelligence automatic, shooting in single shot mode and burst mode. I used the kit lens Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 for the 6 d. I use LR 5.6 CC to download the CR2 files in a catalog. Before you download, I check the images to preview the camera 6 d and all feature the exact pictures - color and image look. However, when you use LR, because I'm downloading the CR2s or convert to DNG for my LR catalog, I noticed on the miniature Strip changes some of the images that are imported into inches showing shifts of color and blank white areas. After that LR has treated images as DNG or CR2s the transformed is now resemble these corrupt inches. Many images came out with sections of each image showing a rectangular area of the negative image (i.g. that the sky was purple, the orange trees, etc.) Also two of the white images expect for the a quarter circle of color distorted and negative imagery.

When I try the software download from Canon, pictures are accurate, so I know card memory of the camera and, without doubt, the camera are not at fault. Any suggestions as to why I can experience this problem and how to solve?

I use a Mac Book Pro 2012 and have my LR catalog on a hard drive external.

    Thank you.

This only applies for the thumbnails? CR2 or DNG files look OK after using development settings? You create previews or standard full-size import? Have you tried to apply an import defined by default as your starting point?

  • Sharing catalogs between Windows and OSX LR4

I recently started using Lightroom 4 and was disappointed that I was unable to share my catalog between Windows and OSX as I could with LR2 and 3. The structure of the files has changed somehow? I mainly use a Windows computer at home, but when I travel, I have a MacBook Pro with the Mac of the LR4 version. All of my photos and catalogs are stored on a USB 3.0 external HARD drive. Although load catalog on a Mac shows all of my folders as question marks. It seems that Windows reads the disc as an indicator of the letter, ex. D:\ and OSX it reads as a volume. Used to before that this was not a problem. Does anyone know in a different way, I can get this to work specifically with this program. I already know that I can just download Boot Camp on my mac and run it like this.

I think I found the answer to my own question. The catalogs that I have problems with were created with beta versions LR4. I just created a catalog using LR4 4.3 and loaded on the Win and perfectly good OSX. Hope this helps if anyone wants to try this out.

  • Reinstall Lightroom CC and from scratch

I installed CC Lightroom on my iMac, retina and made some mistakes import my files and screwed up in my catalog.  I uninstalled Lightroom and reinstalled.  I use a hard drive external to my catalog and deleted the old catalog of the car.  I created a new catalog on the external drive of in LR and now when try to import photos LR says he can't find the catalog and put the photos in the folder of images on my internal drive.  Also, when I browse to the external drive of the treatment file LR side there are files that appear in gray in the drive and when I click on the new folder from catalog that I just created it are gray files in the folder as well.  I want to start my catalog from scratch, while everything is good from the start.  How can I get LR up and going again?

I don't think I've seen it. Can you show me a screenshot so I can see what you see?
