Lightroom 5 CC: vs catalog relationship Finder

I am unclear as to the relationship of photos in the finder and in the Lightroom Catalog. Before you begin to import my photos in image file Finder can someone advise me re:

(1) Lightroom contains only links to pictures in the Finder, is this correct

(2) if I remove a photo from a folder in the finder this will affect links in Lightroom

(3) if I delete an entire folder of finder will this affect lightroom

(4) if I stop using never stop my subscription to lightroom and remove the software, this will affect the pictures in my photo folders in the finder

(5) if I rename my photos when importing, this actually changes the name of the pictures in my photo folder in the finder or is it modified for binding of catalog in lightroom

No assurance, that you can provide to help me understand that I import my photos would be appreciated

1 fix

2. correct (don't do this)

3. correct (don't do this)

4. If you stop your subscription, your photos remain exactly where they are now, on one of your hard drives; However, all of your changes are still in Lightroom and you can export photos with touch-ups after the end of the subscription

5. Rename in LR changes the actual name of the photo in the Finder

Moreover, it seems that you may be considering using the Finder to manage your photos and Lightroom. Do not. Manage your photos in Lightroom.

So in Windows, you can select a drive like q letter (or any other letter you want only towards the end of the alphabet)

Then in Lightroom, you can reconnect to the photos on q: the following instructions (see specifically 4 Figure and related text)

Try to import photos from a different catalog by selecting and choosing the catalog to import since I get the pop up "Lightroom cannot import this catalog.  The catalog does not appear to be a valid Lightroom Catalog"I have lightroom 5.7.1 installed on both my Macbook Pro laptop and iMac desk top.  The two are running OS 10.10.5.  I try to import photos from the laptop to the desktop on a wireless home network.  Other than this recent attempt to import pictures, everything seems to work normally on both computers

Maybe I tried to import about 800 photos, each of about 40MB, through a wireless network.  Most of the photos of the number were consecutive, so perhaps there was a /corruption of interruption in the process.  Anyway thanks for the help

  • How to upgrade a Lightroom 4 to LR5 catalog?

I have two Lightroom separate catalogs associated with my Mac laptop, that are stored on a separate external hard drives.  A catalogue of external hard drive works on LR5, but the another catalog of external hard drive still works on LR4.  Download of Lightroom 5 went well on the first catalogue in LR, but I can't understand how to apply the LR downloaded on the other 5 catalog LR4.  Can someone explain how to put the second catalogue LR4 LR5 to?

Not sure if it is important to note, but I bought the LR5 on my laptop.  In addition to my computer laptop LR5 is also currently working on my desktop computer.  Both computers are Macs. Only two computers are associated with Lightroom.

Just Lightroom 5 open the catalog Lightroom 4 others. Lightroom will know that she is from a previous version and will offer to convert it to the new format of 5 Lightroom. He let the intact original catalogue. If the other catalog is not listed in the "open recent" list then just use your browser system to go in your catalog folder and double click on the another catalog. Then starts the conversion process. Or you could go to file-> open from the menu of Lightroom and browse it to your catalog folder and select the other catalog in this way.

  • Why Lightroom loses all my catalogs?

This is my third time I lost all my catalogs in lightroom. Where to find them, they must finally have a tech relocate. Anyone has a solution, so I call and go through the same old routine? I don't like to call because most of the time I can't understand what they're trying to say or they are not what I'm trying to tell them. Like when I tell them that catalogs have disappeared, they ask me how it is possible? I'm not the expert here, they are - and it becomes very frustrating.

    Thank you ~.

    Mike has.

    You have a workflow problem.

Lightroom is open to first search for the catalog it last. If that "moves" you will receive a message saying that the catalog was not found and Lightroom suggest open a new.

If the catalog is on an external drive, it is likely that Windows assigned a different drive letter. It happens all the time, especially when you plug in different players in different orders each time.

In this case, find your drive and open the catalog to the new location. Only get around this is to give the reader a drive letter high, as windows allocates those from the bottom to the top of the page automatically. Windows change drive letter, when some other player took the previously allocated.

I went in lightroom and can't find my photos. I lost the link before and did the right click to find and they have been found, but it's different.

I bought an external hard drive and copied some elements but did not cut their.  I did a back up on my external hard drive, but even once did not move them. I did the simple troubleshooting and it doesn't work.  I'm trying to find the original by right clicking the? on the folder LR and once I find the file it tells me that Lightroom has this file already in the catalog - and I want to merge. I tried one and it disappeared or moved. Help!

Use the file Explorer to see if the images are still in their original location. I suspect that move instead of copy them. This can happen if you drag you the.

I found that it is best to use either right click on a file or folder name and select copy then right click on the drive-destination folder and select Paste or use keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste folder and files from one disk to another. The keyboard shortcuts are the CTRL + key C to copy and Ctrl + V to paste in the selected destination folder-drive.

  • How to retrieve virtual copies + information meta for photos which were in lightroom and climbed settles in the finder

    Hey there,

Since I bought my new camera, I was extremely organized in my new photo folders. (organized by date, name of the event. ex: "YYYY-MM-DD - golf tournament").

It's all about my 'external hard drive', in a folder called "photography hdd."

tonight, I decided to go in a different folder on the same external hard drive (external hard drive > media > photos) that was never held. I used the same organization method mentioned above and created folders organized by date to reorganize these photos.

then, when I was organizing the 'pictures' folder, I dragged all these organized by date records "photography-hdd", then deleted this folder "photos". in other words, I have added to my Lightroom main library folder where all the other those published were always.

then I got the idea great to change the name 'photography hdd' to 'pictures', simply because it was more clean...

Once in Lightroom, I did not know what to click to Update my file "photography hdd", now called "photos" in the Finder. so I think that I clicked and selected "update folder location" and selected the new 'pictures' folder (which was essentially the same folder as 'photography hdd' but with a new name - I guess it's this that mixed up Lightroom).

Then, all the pictures are gone. None appeared.

I decided to rename 'Photo' of 'photography hdd', hoping that Lightroom would recognize the name and then understand where the files are located. but it changed nothing.

I saw that I had not a lot of options, I tried to synchronize the folder "photography hdd." It appeared as if I was importing 12000 new photos - I understood so that the pictures I had initially in it would be not be recognized even if I put the folder parent its original name "photography hdd."

is it possible to recover the changes that I made to the files that were there at the beginning, until I screwed? all I care is to obtain changes that same back (called virtual copies I think).

Please note: I haven't changed the names of file and their respective names organized by date file. all, I changed, it was the name of the parent folder, but I put it its original name. the BIG problem and the cause of all this, is that I did all my changes to folder in the Finder, and not in Lightroom.

It may be better to use your last backup. Unzip the file and double-click the .lrcat file to launch your named catalog.

Then try to update the files individually link to the new location.

  • Another Application is using Lightroom 4.3 problem - catalog

I recently moved all my photos and my 4.3 on a Drobo Mini Lightroom Catalog so that I can use it easily with my notebook computer MacBook Pro and my Mac Pro desktop computer.  Everything is working very well for a few weeks, but now I'm having a problem.  When I try to open Lightroom it says it can't open my catalog because it is used by another application.  I can't find any other application that uses the catalog and I closed both computers and rebooted, but still getting the same message?  Any advice on how to release my catalog would be greatly appreciated.

    [email protected]

No, Bernie mentioned the Drobo drive in post #8 USB connection.

Have you tried another file locking?

And you have double-clicked on the catalogue of Drobo?

If you access the files on the Drobo now and 'Get info': permissions still display "all"? You may need to check this for all folders to the top of the hierarchy of the Lightroom folder to the upper level (where I believe you did what you wrote in the post #11).

  • Lightroom 2.  Main catalog on the road metadata changes

I tried to find the answer to this in the forums, but cannot, so forgive me if this question was asked a million times.

I'm going on the road with my laptop and will not take along my hard drives.  I want to copy my main catalog on my laptop, take it with me and add metadata (especially keywording and captioning) to files on a trip.  I won't have the DNG, JPEG, PSD, files etc. with me - only catalog.  I want then to come home and incorporate these changes in the catalogue on my desk when I get back home.

Is this possible?  It must be.

    Thank you.

If you not add pictures to the catalog if it is on the laptop and it will not work with the catalogue on the main computer, even if you have a version of the catalog on your laptop, then the easiest way is to copy the catalog (lrcat on PC or Mac file) and the directory previews (a single file on Mac) on your laptop. Your laptop, you will see your photos in the preview files and will not be able to use the slideshow, print, and web modules or develop. You will be able to apply keywords and metadata and build regular and smart collections in the library module, but you will not be able to move a file from one folder to another. Once you have finished, copy the catalog (lrcat) to your main computer file; to be on the safe side, make a backup of the file lrcat on your computer before transferring of your laptop.

The strategy above could also be used if new photos are added on the laptop, but in this case you would need to make sure that you use the same structure of folders on the main computer and the laptop and you must manually copy the photos newly imported on the laptop to the exact same directory structure on the main computer when the work is done. It implies, there is no simultaneous work on the two catalogs because this would require a completely different strategy.

Finally, if you have keyword presets and other presets for metadata that you want to use, you need to transfer these institutions. The presets will be either stored in a folder with your catalog or in a record established by Lightroom. You can determine the location by choosing preferences from the Edit menu and select the Presets tab. Tab preset button "Show Lightroom Presets folder...". "will show you the location of the presets and the"store pre-configured with catalog"allows you to change the location of the folder of presets to be alongside your catalog. Note that having the folder predefined alongside your catalog is the best choice if you are using a single catalog that it facilitates backup and restore operations. Note also that the change of the location of the predefined folder does not move files preset to the new location; This is a manual operation.

I hope this helps. Let me know if something remains unclear.

  • Lightroom does not open catalog

    Hi all:

Help, please. New to this forum. Using Lightroom 2.2 on Mac.

I had to do a reboot after a frost, and then I got the message:

The catalogue called lightroom Lightroom 2 catalog cannot be opened because it is another application already opened. Leave the other copy of Lightroom before trying to launch.

I can open my first catalogue but not the catalogue in question (I had just loaded with several hundred images). I reloaded lightroom program and reinstalled (irdata Catalog.Ircat and catalog Previews.) from my backup disk. I have saved on my backup disk images, but not in my catalog.

Suggestions as to how I can reopen the catalog or is it fried?

    Thank you
    George

    George,

When Lightroom opens a catalog file, it creates a "lock" file in the same directory as the catalog. When you have had your accident, has not deleted the file. All you need to do is to find and delete it and everything will be fine, probably. :)

  • Lightroom 6.6.1 can't find the right lens profile more

    Hello

I have updated to Lightroom to the latest version, of camera raw 9.6 6.6.1 and now I have the problem that lightroom does not find the correct lens profile more.

I use the same equipment and workflow as before. Even if I select the profile of lens manually, it doesn't have the right profile, but when I check an older import some weeks ago, selected and used Lightroom the right profile, which is located on the old selectable photos!

    Material used:

    Nikon D750

    Nikon 24-120/4

    Tamron 70-200/2.8

    Windows 8.1

    Any ideas?

    Some current problems?

    Kin regards,

    Martin

Two of these lens profiles are integrated with LR. This means that you manually select them and you do not put a checkmark in the optical Correction area.

Then uncheck the option for corrections to activate the profile. you will then see a box of low red described "applied objective integrated profile.

Of course, you can make the correction manually if you wish.
