Lightroom has encountered an error when reading a catalog file and must stop smoking.
Since I installed Snow Leopard, I get this error. LR restarts and the catalogue is very well, but I let him turn and come back an hour later and there is the same error.
I checked the file system on my USB key and it is fine. It's a whole new catalog that I created to export a former. I've never had this problem before.
Sorry if this is a double post, I can't seem to find the original post, I thought I did.

Your drive eSata connection should be just fine - if this copy is fine. If you can d/l through which images in a folder on internally, which would be faster and safer than other methods via a USB port. I don't think that LR cares about the type of connection, but the operating system don't you...

Lightroom has encountered an error when reading the preview cache and needs to stop smoking. Help, please
Hi crystalc,
It seems that the preview cache has become corrupted.
You must go to the location where your catalog is stored via finder/File Explorer and get rid of the file ending with Previews.lrdata (not .lrcat)
Default location of the catalog is under Pictures\Lightroom

Trying to open 5 Lightroom, a message appears 'Lightroom has encountered an error when reading the preview cache and needs to quit' "Lightroom will attempt to solve this problem, the next time he throws" when OK key Lightroom quit unexpectedly and the computer returns to the office. This persisted for 2 days and it has not set itself. help please.
Click OK close Lightroom.
You must manually go to the location of your Lightroom by Finder catalogue / file Explorer and get rid of the Previews.lrdata folder
By default, the location would be in Pictures\Lightroom folder

Have a problem with Lightroom 5.4. Given that the program crashed yesterday, will not start, it comes up with the message "Lightroom has encountered an error when reading the preview cache and need to quit." "Lightroom will attempt to solve this problem, the next time he throws." Except that it isn't, I get the same message and the program closes. Anyone know what I can do to fix it? Can not backup, can't do anything.
There are dozens of discussions in this forum that describe the fix

My computer turns off on its own this morning, and now when I bring LR, I get this msg "Lightroom has encountered an error in the reading of his Max Preview and must stop". I restarted my computer 3 times and I still get this msg. Can someone please advise (I'm on a desktop HP)
In the folder with your catalog (*.) LrCat file), there is a folder with same name but ending with 'previews. LrData ".
Out of LR, remove the 'previews. LrData"file and let LR create it from scratch. Do not remove anything else.

Anybody out there can help get LR works again.
Open LR 5 I see message "Lightroom has encountered an error in its cache of the preview reading and needs to stop smoking". I deleted the folder Preview Cache completely (saved). This does not solve the problem. What can I do next to load Lightroom?
If you remove the preview cache folder and the problem persists, then most likely you have found the wrong preview cache (it's for a different catalog previews) and you must find the right cache overview. You should use the search function of your operating system to find all files whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA and remove each of them until you can open your Lightroom Catalog.

Title says it all. Lightroom stops because he can't read in its cache of the preview.
Take a look at this topic, there is a solution.

Your catalog is stored on the hard drive.
By default, it is stored in Pictures\Lightroom
You must browse to folder Pictures\Lightroom via File Explorer and delete the Previews.lrdata folder.

Can I get an explanation of what past?
You must remove the preview Cache.
It is located in the same folder as the catalog in Lightroom. The name of the cache an extract ends with Previews.LRDATA and should be deleted. Not to be confused with *. LRCAT, which should not be deleted.

What's wrong? What should I do?
With the help of your browser in the system, open your Lightroom Catalog folder. There will be a file with the extension .lrdata. You must remove this folder, then you can start Lightroom and Lightroom will start construction of a new folder of previews.

I let close put it keeps appearing
I guess you know where your file catalog (lrcat). In the same folder is a folder of lrdata of previews that you must delete or rename in the Explorer, then start LR again.
If I made erroneous assumptions that above, sorry, and we will go back on it from the beginning.

LR has encountered an error when reading the preview cache and must be closed.
Win 7 Home premium, LR5 (5.3 I guess)
I just wanted to check before that I tried to solve this problem.
I've been using LR5 since it was released. I think I got in LR to ver 2 (maybe 3) and have updated new versions came out. I have 4 main catalogues, as well as a few more small. The question catalogue is called "2004", currently named 2004-2-2.
Based on what I see in other discussions, the solution is to take the subfolder "2004-2-2 previews.lrdata" out of the 2004 catalog folder then restart LR and build previews again.
(I'll move it to another location on the same drive. Moving, I still for some reason any)
Being a neophyte/luddite, I am very careful... (and want to make sure that I am just before I do)
Phew...
Seems to be OK
Thank you very much

OK, go to the Lightroom folder (in images by default) and delete the folder/file ending with the extension.lrdata. Previews have somehow become corrupt.
