Lion server master open directory, El Capitan (Server 5) as replica

Hi all

I have a server running in the Office Lion to do practically everything, including a great mastery of the directory. I want to add a server to the family running El Capitan and Server 5 only as a Manager profile for all our devices to work. However, when I set up the Profile Manager in the Server 5 requires that your server is a network directory. I tried to join the Mac running Server 5 and El Capitan to my Lion server as a replica, but it says "incompatible Versions. Is there a way to do this? Or should I have them both in the same version in order to do so?

I'm guessing that still looking at this because you have either a former host of Open Directory that cannot not be upgraded past 10.7.5 Lion, and/or you are in the upgrade and migration process.

OK, so to paraphrase your question and what you face here, your choice involves having a coherent implementation of Open Directory using compatible software versions, or to replace the current lockout version here and try using combinations various and variously incompatible and rather less tested versions Open Directory on your authentication servers.

If access is quite important to have reproduced Open Directory servers and probably replicate DNS and associated, then all get at Yosemite and probably preferred to El Capitan.   Now, if it was a company that was considering replication, then your business failure costs are probably much higher than the cost of a Mac mini (new or used) or other small box which can operate to Yosemite or El Capitan.   For a less critical environment or family environment, I would probably make a relocation and migration and get that OD data transferred to the new server.

Or the short version: can I replace the lockout?  No doubt.  But do you really want to do this?   With your directory servers?

2016-02-28 22:09:13 + 0000, the machine is bound to the specified server as the master of the OD - remove the link before creating the replica

Any ideas on how this machine, when dissociation, so I can implement a QD replica for this server?

PS. I have set up Mail first, then I'm certainly access the Open Directory from the other server currently.

Undo what you did to connect this server to OD initially.   Remove the link from the server.   Or erase and reinstall OS X and OS X Server, of course.   Once you have promoted this box to a replica, you re - will do then this sequence bind to connect to the local server - replica - and not to the master OD.

In general, IP network and routing gets put in place first, then the DNS services are referenced or are established, then OD servers or replicas, then the rest of the pieces and parts and services and who depend on OD or DNS or IP network.

This was one of the most frustrating 5 days trying to get this software to load I've ever had.  The reason why I bought a Mac, it's that told me Adobe PSE and Photoshop CS works much better on a Mac and he wasn't well at all on my laptop Lenovo almost 4 year.  I should have learned the UNIX commands when I did my employees to learn Linux.  I never thought, I would need this knowledge on a Mac, but I was wrong.

Of course, you don't look at the error package that I loaded which is published at the beginning of my post "error package Support Uploaded: 30402-00-091818122011".

It is not very encouraging that I see others with the same problem, and Adobe has no problem a bulletin in the forums on the PSE on Lion Server loading.  Existing stock can obviously be repaired, but put an important message on the forums, as did for installation with first Elements 10 problems.  I'm pretty disappointed with Adobe at this point.  I hope I have a better experience once I get my backlog of .raw photos converted to .jpg, that's why I bought Photoshop Elements 10.

  • Lion server is always available to purchase?

I read some old posts that says you can buy Lion Server if you call Apple but I tried some numbers and all they have is Lion, but no server of Lion. Try to redirect some old Mac Pros such as file servers and hoping that it is possible to buy yet. Any help is appreciated!

    Thank you!

This is a little old, but I am betting it still applies...

I had this problem too. We have a 2008 Xserve (Xserve2, 1) who does not care for 10.8 Lion mountain, so we had to get 10.7 Lion. DO NOT CALL SALES, not even the store Apple's Business. They don't know how to order 10.7. When you have found the right person to talk to support, it is very easy. The only problem seems to be to find someone who knows how to place the order for you.

Also, make sure that you get the TWO 10.7 Lion and 10.7 Lion.app, $20 each. They send you an e-mail in a few days with the download link and the redemption code. You must do this on a system with 10.6.6 at least, otherwise, you can't go to the Mac App Store to download.

  • The Lion Mountain Lion Server upgrade, then Mountain Lion Server

Anyone successfully upgraded Lion Mountain Lion Server and then installed OS X Server in addition to this fusion 4.1.3?  I tried a few times (snap God for snapshots) to do over the weekend, but in vain. Mountain Lion seemed to install successfully more Lion Server, but when he tried to restart, restart failed with an error (just a generic error message was posted with no details on what the error was).  I even went so far as to turn off all server services and not allocate resources to Server services before installing Mountainn Lion, but that did not help all.

I was able to upgrade properly Lion (not the version of the server) to Lion mountain with no problems, however.  Not sure why I can't installed on Server Lion Mountain Lion.

    Thank you.

Hmmm... You can try to install the ML server first, and then run the migration wizard after it's done.

  • Open Directory: Cannot add users remotely

I have questions, adding users to Open Directory of the Server app. It happens when I connect to the remote server, not when I'm on the service computer itself.

After adding a user, I get:

Operation is not supported by the node directory.

I looked around here, and all I saw was an ambiguous statement to verify the certificate of the AO. OD now creates a code signing certificate when I create a master, but under Server certificates, it does not use it, and I can't assign this certificate to the OD service. Only certificates that I can attribute to the OD service are a self-signed certificate, a class cert IV checked (StartCom) 2 and the proverbial 'none '.

    Any suggestions?

It seems to be a problem with the server does not have its own code signing certificate?

I go to certificates > custom setting > and Directory Services is using my StartSSL certificate instead of the code signing certificate he created. It doesn't let me assign this certificate to the service.

Can someone help? I can't find answers anywhere.

  • Setting up OS x server as a replica of MS-Windows server 2008 or 2012

    Hi people,

Our company has an environment Active directory on windows server 2008 and server running in 2012. We recently bought a mac server to push profiles settings and updates to iOS and OS x equipment.

When I try to configure the mac server to join a domain open directory existing as a replica of the windows server 2008 or 2012, it gives an error of incompatibility. He says: ' your server cannot become a replica of the 'example.com' because they run a no compatible version of Mac OS X. Please consult the Guide of Administration Open Directory for more information about this compatibility matrix.

  • How can I switch from OSX Lion 10.7.5 to El Capitan on my end 2011 MacBook Pro?

How to move from OS X Lion 10.7.5 to El Capitan on my end 2011 MacBook Pro? I get an error 'install the distribution of the error signed by apple. I'm sure I need first to switch to something else, but I have no idea where to start.

    1. check all your applications to ensure compatibility with ElCapitan.

When those you want to keep (as possible) have a compatible update: you can update after installation.

2 ElCapitan performs better with more than 4 GB of Ram, although in very low load systems, it runs on 2 GB.

    3. your hard drive doesn't have to be "nearly complete."

    4. go in the Appstore and download ElCapitan (the download comes in your Applications folder)

The installer is removed after installation, so if you like to keep a copy before starting the installation.

    5. install all applications updated.

Many seem to be running OK opening on El Capitan; works for me, but I'm importing is more a lot in. Others have had problems, BUT feel that some users of Aperture are also use old hardware also.

Don't forget that one of the salient features of the opening is the ability to store non-destructive image adjustments. So all these beautiful shots you cropped, tuned, converted to B & W, etc. May NOT be exist in Aperture. If you exported from those, exports exist. But if not and opening stop, because it willl eventually, you lose these adjustments not exported. Pouf. A backup would not allow the same.

The originals, however, probably will last some time, given that JPEG and RAW files even now are ubiquitous. This isn't like MacPaint documents. But still.

It is possible that in future versions of Photos you wouldn't not is more able to import libraries including these adjustments I talked about. Probably not for a while, but why take the chance? Keep your original Aperture library and convert a copy for use in Photos (or anything else). No problem except a little of space at low cost. If you continue to use Aperture, just think of that as a backup strategy. (And BTW, I doubt even paralyzed opening users will envy Photos users for a long time, if ever).

With the opening in parallel is possible, but works best if both are reference the same photos, do not use managed libraries. But which prevents you from using iCloud photo library, which might not be a problem. It requires some tedious workflow issues, but it's doable. Everyone can (at this stage) import virtually any TIFF other exports. But even once, you lose the settings in this way. If you convert an Aperture library for use with Photos, you don't need to export; parameters (settings) move instead of TIFF.

Opening will eventually choke on something. And he is not developing; stuff like mist filtering, HDR, focus stacking, RAW, pixel shift development plugins, etc etc all goes dead journal. Get a new camera and relying on the opening to treat his images seem to be rather backward, unless you like looking at photos on your flipphone in 8 glorious colors.

How can I get my 12 items Editor to open in El Capitan on mac? It signals a problem. As suggested by the Apple support, I've trashed previous preferences and tried to restart, but to no avail. They told me to return the trash preferences and contact adobe.

Adobe has not yet been able to offer suggestions of what-so-ever, aside from telling me that it is there no real person for this product customer support and that I should try this forum. I hope that, apart from the many people with the same problem, there may be even one person out there with a solution!

I bought the Publisher of 12 elements in March 2015 on the Apple App Store. Apple has confirmed that there is absolutely nothing wrong with my Mac. He has had problems since bought and installed on Yosemite, now the new O.S. El Capitan is installed, and 12 elements editor now refuses to open at all.

My opinion is that if Adobe and Apple do not provide professional support for the products they sell to us, then they should say at the outset that there is no support for these products. This is not the first time that I was sold an adobe product that doesn't have any product support, product durability or reliability of product.

  • How to kill an Open Directory - password be reset when the first user login

    Hi all

I've been running on this issue for some time now, however, I finally got tired of it. I want to set a password policy, but the option 'Reset password on the first login of the user' completely kills OpenDirectory.

Running OS X Server 10.11.3 and 5.0.15, although this has happened also in versions of Yosemite. This case is a new and clean installation in a virtual machine. Only OpenDirectory and appropriate DNS are enabled. DNS was fully configured by the Server app when you set the hostname and checks in the Terminal.

I created a few test users OpenDirectory and confirms that I can not connect with them. Can I put another option in the strategy of password very well, however, the minute I turn on 'reset the password on the first login of the user', my OpenDirectory is ruined.

I'm unable to add new users, I am unable to change passwords, policies of previous password, I had set is no longer working. That is, the user cannot change password when you sign in for the first time. Correct password is entered, but shakes the login window when you try to configure the new password.

Error returned once the OpenDirectory gets watered is "Mode is not supported by the node directory. Not only is the directory watered, but it becomes difficult to even remove or disable the hella service.

Someone at - it ideas? I really want to enable this feature so that I'm not creating a temporary password for users, then relying on them to change themselves.

    Thank you

It always seems to be the case - the diradmin account gets completely borked. Have you already found a way to define this strategy successfully?

This command will unlock the overall strategy and restore the account, so you can use OD once again, but it's just a solution, not a solution.

    Hello

The browser runs in a sandbox and therefore can not see everything that isn't in the DocRoot. So when you run your example of HTML document in your browser, you run from your PC. When you run APEX if you run on a server so that you can't see the files or file structures that are not on the server.

People have found ways around that, but I wouldn't go there. Instead think about why wanted to provide this and maybe get a different and perhaps better solution for the requirement.

  • Favorites do not appear in the sidebar save/open dialogs (El Capitan)

    The question

The problem is that the sidebar first SAVE / OPEN Windows is missing from the list of favorites. Some people also report they are absent in the side bar of the Finder itself, but in my case, it was not the question.

In some cases reboot temporarily seems to "solve" the problem, only to have it come back a little later.

Some people have suggested to delete the Finder preferences plist file (~ / Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist). But people say it does not, correct or is it fixed only temporarily. Delete this file also kills all the Favorites from the Finder, which means he must recreate the list.

I can hardly believe that a serious UI bug has occurred since the 10.11.0, which was released more than a year ago.

Does anyone have a legitimate solution to this issue?

    In addition to background information

This question seems to be fairly widely reported. There are many cases reported here on the Apple Forums, although I saw no meaningful discussion on the problem and permanent solutions.

It is also fairly widely reported on other sites (blogs, etc.). Various solutions are available, but many people say these don't fix, or only very temporarily fix.

As far as I know, this question was held for people in all versions of El Capitan, of 10.11.0 thanks 10.11.6 (the most common, from this announcement).

A small sample of the cases reported here on the Apple Forums:

This issue is fairly widely reported online. I searched through the Rapporteur of bugs and no results were returned, which seems hard to believe.

Missing Finder instance handles dialogues open/save favorites.

Often the sidebar is hidden. It can be restore to see, and then the Favorites are missing. People have reported this problem on line since 10.11.0

Sometimes in the Finder itself in this case also.

    Steps to reproduce:

Use registration opening of in any application.

Sidebar missing all the favourites. Only the items that have been seen are DEVICES.

    Expected results:

It should be a list of FAVORITES in the sidebar of all Windows Open/Save.

    Actual results:
