  It's a video card driver bug introduced in Mac OS 10.10 (who looks a lot like an old bug they fixed to 10.9).

  Since a slideshow is a multifaceted, try selecting the text box itself with your black arrow, and once it is selected, using the text tool to change the text on the page.

I also have the Machine backup time, which I returned to an earlier version of the operating system at some point.  In general, the cursor still moves, but does not work no matter what windows or controls, that is why it requires the hard reboot.  The Mac reputation is on the line, since I told my friends of Windows that Mac will last at least a decade before they may need to be replaced, while Windows based computers need replacing every 5 years.  Is that what I can do perfectly well apart from the replacement of this computer?
