List of recent items now in alphabetical order

Recently, I found that my "recent items" list modified sequence. It was organized by accessed date-time, but is now in order of file name. Which is, of course, totally useless unless the file is alphatically in the first 1 - x in the list.

I don't know how it happened, and I can't find how to fix it. I didn't click recently "Sort by name" on the desktop, organize the shortcuts, but the return to "Sort by modified date" has not helped.

I found the forum for other answers, which suggests the creation of new shortcuts in the "recent" folder To clear up any doubts - I don't want to mess with a workaround, I want Windows to work the way it should and, in fact, did until a few days ago!

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Right-click in the list and choose sort by name.  Or drag the items in the order you want, so you can put the one used the most closest to your mouse pointer.

  • Recent articles: is it possible to retrieve a list of recent items passed?

    Is it possible to retrieve a list of recent past items.  I am trying to determine if a file has been accessed and then removed from the list of recent items.  If possible, how do you do that?

    The list is stored in C:\Users\\Recent and there may be different lists for each user.  There is no real way to know if an item has been removed from the list, unless it is in the trash (which is unlikely).

    To check the Ffichier, go to Windows Explorer and navigate to the file that you are concerned about. Right-click on the headers, click more and add the access Date column.  Then you can see the last time someone accessed the file.  It's just as good as the list of recent files to find out when a person access to a file (and it cannot be deleted without deleting the file).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • How to enable recent items on jump list

    Not sure if it of a problem or not. I would like a list of recent items on my list of jump (in fact, only for MS Word) in the task bar. I only have pinned files, but would like to be able to place a file in the list of recent files and PIN which as well. My problem is that I do not see the recent files on any list to jump from a program in the task bar. I went into the properties of taskbar (start menu/customize) and tried to click on the number of recent files, but it is zero and is grayed out so I can't change it. What should I do? Or is it a problem that requires a repair?

    I've seen a few discussions about this in this forum - I don't know if this is a problem, or if there is somewhere a seting I forgot to check.

    Right-click on the Start button, and then select Properties. Click on Start menu tab and check the box in front of the store and display recently items in the start menu and the taskbar.

  • I can organize is no longer my drop down menu book mark, in the toolbar in alphabetical order like I used to why?

    Used to, I could organize my book mark list dropdown in the toolbar, in alphabetical order from A to Z by clicking view, sort by, select. Now, every time I add a new bookmark, it goes to the bottom of my list of bookmarks in the Unsorted bookmarks. I can go to bookmarks and sort the menu in Alpha. order. However, when I come back and fall to the bottom of the list of bookmarks in the toolbar, the new bookmarks are still in the unsorted list down. Menu of the bookmark may or may not of them in the matching list. This has happened several return updates. Why can I sort is more the book drop brands A - Z alph. order? It is a major obstacle in trying to look for a particular bookmark I made in a not-too-distant past.

    Hello, the menu display of the library does not change available to the bookmarks themselves (but only allows you to view them temporarily sort by certain criteria). to organize alphabetically, right click on a folder of bookmarks and select "sort by name".

  • Recent items in Vista does not update correctly

    I have a problem that the recent items on the Start Menu is not updated correctly.  There are a few documents out there, but there are many who don't are not who should be.  If I right click on the recent items and choose explore I can see a lot more files in the C:\Users\Pete\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent folder.

    For example, there are few. XLS and. DOC files that I opened recently but don't are not.  However when I explore the folder I can see a shortcut to the directory that contains the missing files.

    I tried many combinations of physically erase the folder, by activating / disabling the option elements recent etc, but nothing helped.

    Thanks in advance

    I had the same problem. I fixed it by deleting all entries, except the default entry, in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RecentDocs in the registry. There are a bunch of other entries which are numbered for each of the files in the list of recent items. and the entrance to MRUListEx. Delete it all. Unfortunately, there is no file name but only entered, HEX numbers and letters. After doing this, Windows has started listing the files in recent Articles that were not show up there before.

    I found that the problem has followed a couple of files that were present in recent Articles when I cleared the list a few weeks earlier. After these files are not present in recent items, but rather the shortcut to the folder appears. Also, I've found that the problem was with the actual files, not the folder. I opened the 2 files, Excel, and a Word document and choose Save under and added a 2 to name the document, save an exact copy of the documents. Each copy has appeared in recent and open items without any problems. Copies of rename the original name and overwrite the originals, reduced the problem. I searched the registry files to see if there's information about save them in a special place, but nothing found. They were only listed in the MRUlists for each of their applications, showing other open documents recently Excel and Word.

    Since I had made changes to the documents and saved the changes in copies that end in 2, I chose save as once again and replaced the original files with updated copies. Now my original files, with the update of information, see and open from the list of recent items.

  • Recent items folder does not display the files saved in the Office 2010

    I have a question where the record of recent items (Start/Recent Items) shows not all files that are created in Office 2010 or converted in this format. All other files (for example, .xls, .doc, .pdf) are displayed, but it's not Office 2010 files.

    If I open Excel 2010 or Word 2010 and go to file/Recent then files are all listed here as recent files, but do not show up in the start/Recent Items menu.

    I use Vista Home Premium with Office 2010, but also have this problem with my PC which is running Windows 7. However, it is less a question here as I have Word and Excel pinned to the taskbar and you can access these files from there.

    It drives me crazy because I have to go through a number of additional steps to open files that are routinely used and wonder if it's a 'function' or a bug.

    I posted this question in the forum Office 2010 too and it advises to ask here as well. My reason for posting, it is originally that I am convinced that this is a problem with Office 2010. Files created in Office 2010 and saved in the Excel/Word 2003 (.doc and .xls) format very well, appear as files created under .docxand .xlsx that have been converted to the format Office 2003. It occurs only with files with extensions Office 2010.

    I tried to dlete everything in the folder and run the "shell: recent ' command, but the opinion is to do this after DELETING the folder recent elements which is something the system won't let me do - there is no option to delete the record.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Thanks for the clarification, but once again, I think you're wrong understanding of the issue. The point is that it does not appear in the list of recent items... otherwise I him have not posted the question.

    I appreciate that we're trying to be helpful, but it is actually more an obstacle if you have not read and understood the issue of opening. Sorry to be blunt, but the fundamental issue has not received by people either in this topic or the forum of the Office.

    However, I am pleased to announce that the elements are now show - do not know what he did, but I think it's the no-check/recheck option proposed by Nithyananda J, BUT ONLY AFTER a REBOOT.

    However, I also tried various other things on mine so can't be sure which of them solved the problem.

    How can I restore it?
    original title: restoration CLEARLY the RECENT POSTS

    This occurs if the file desktop.ini in the recent folder is deleted.

    a. Click Start, type "% AppData%\Microsoft\Windows" and press {ENTER}

    b. right click on the folder named recent, then choose Delete. Click Yes when you are prompted.

    c. now, type the command "shell: recent" in the start - menu search box, and then press {ENTER}.

    Note: The command above recreates the recent folder, as well as a new desktop.ini file and opens the file.

    d. disconnect and return connection. You should now see the context menu list of recent items clear when you right click on the recent items on the start menu folder.

  • Recent items does not properly

    Over the last day or two, I noticed items missing from my list of recent items that are usually there. Some articles like the photos appear still but others, such as spreadsheets, are no longer there and are not visible. I also noticed that in the list of recent items and there description (?) on the top of my documents file in addition to the file name (i.e. documemtname.xls). It's new and I don't know why it's there or if it affects anything. I tried restoring the system running, but he failed twice. I deleted the recent items and it did not help once I opened the files. When I checked the location of the folder the recent items, it seems to be adding to the file but not in the menu. I'd like to be able to solve this problem I use some files of almost every day and I now have to start a search.

  • Preferences of recent items returned to zero, without saving the changes

    I noticed yesterday for some reason, the drop-down list of recent items in applications such as TextEdit and Pages no longer displays anything. I went into System Preferences and chose 10 recent Articles, but it did not save my changes. That is, after I closed and reopened the system preferences, he once more had no selected for the recent items box.

    No idea how I can restore recent?

    Skip this question actually, I found a work around.  Mods are free to remove.

  • Is there a way I can use the dataportal in alphabetical order?

    Then I make a huge list of calculations and creation of new channels. I want to be able to use the channel list in Group 1 only, in alphabetical order, at the end of my file. Any ideas on how I could do this?

    Hi Jcheese,

    I happen to have a small script that does this.  Just pass the index of the group whose strings to sort.

    Call ChanSort (1)

    Void ChanSort (GroupIdx)
    Dim i, swapped, ChNo1, ChNo2
    "Until the GroupName() bubble sort is finished
    Swapped = False
    FOR i = 1 TO GroupChnCount (GroupIdx)-1
    ChNo1 = CNoXGet (GroupIdx, i)
    ChNo2 = CNoXGet (GroupIdx, i + 1)
    IF StrComp (UCase (ChnName (ChNo1)), UCase (ChnName (ChNo2))) > 0 THEN
    Call ChnMove (ChNo2, Groupidx, i)
    Swapped = True
    END IF ' Name (i) and Name(i+1) are to be swapped
    NEXT ' I
    Loop until NOT (swapped)
    End Sub ' ChanSort()

  • My Windows Live Mail is sorted in alphabetical order by family name, but now, when I add a new contact, it is positioned at the top of the list instead being placed in the right place alphabetical.

    My direct mail is sorted in alphabetical order by family name, but now, when I add a new contact, it is positioned at the top of the list instead being placed in the right place alphabetical.  How to load the list of contacts to organize all contacts, including contacts, in alphabetical order by family name?

    E-mail address is removed from the privacy *.

    My direct mail is sorted in alphabetical order by family name,

    It is not clear what you mean by this statement.

    • There is an option in the contacts window in kind (names) of > name -is that what you mean?
    • Or that, when you open / switch to the contacts window, you see a list sorted by last name?
    • Or that when you click on to... or start typing in the to... box in a message composition window, you see a list ('contact selector') sorted by family name?

    Only in contact with an e-mail address will appear in the "Chooser". The list includes names in alphabetical order. For contacts with a first name and a registered name , the list will be sorted based on the preference granted to sort by in the Contacts window. Contacts with multiple email addresses will appear once for each address with the address in brackets after the name.

    Name is a special value built by WLMail contact data fields. It will consist of the first match found during the analysis of the data fields in the following order:

    1. Nickname
    2. First name + last name (in the order specified to sort by in the Contacts window)
    3. First name or last name
    4. Company
    5. E-mail address
    As you start typing in of... box, WLMail will present a list of matching entries in your contacts list. You can start typing username, first name, first name, company, e-mail address to a contact or any significant word in the Notes field for this contact. So, if you type bil, for example, the list that appears will include
    • any person whose nickname starts with Bil, e.g. Billyboy
    • any person whose first name begins with Bil, e.g. of Bilbo Baggins
    • anyone whose first name begins with Bil, for example Jim Bilko
    • everyone whose company name starts with Bil, e.g. Billingsgate Market
    • everyone with an address of e-mail from bil bil or just after a period or the ' @' symbol, for example "the bilbo at hotmail dot com" or "jim to billingsgate dot com" or "jim.bilko at hotmail dot com.
    • all categories whose name contains a word starting with bil

    If this does not solve your problem, please post your question in the forum dedicated to contacts in Windows Live Mail.

  • The songs in its library of music must be listed in alphabetical order by song, not by the artist.

    I recently downloaded 10 IOS.  When I go to my music library, so I could go to playlists, artists, albums, or songs.  Given that my artists are listed in alphabetical order, is it not superfluous to enumerate my songs in alphabetical order of the artist?  I prefer my songs alphabetically by song title as it used to be.

    Hey fosterdogmom,

    I understand that you do not want to see your songs in alphabetical order by title to the music as opposed to them being sorted by artist app. I can help you with that.

    To change this, go in settings > music and look for a setting called sorting songs and Albums and choose to sort by title. Take a look at the following link for more details on this.

  • Since the installation of 32.0, my contact list is not in alphabetical order. Seems to be dated, then alpha by name. Why?

    Running Version 32.0. As it has been installed, my Contact list is not displayed in alphabetical order. Instead the contact appear to be displayed in activity date and/or time, and then by order of name. Example, I got a list of contacts 25 in sequence pell-mell, when I changed a piece of dat and found that the contact has changed is now at the top of the list! I changed a contact who should appear above this on and also, he went to the top of the list. In this way, I got the entire list in order. I then saw a mistake on one and corrected these contact data. This time went to the top of the list!

    If I can provide any other information, please let me know.

    May I suggest to revert to a previous version and by adopting a more cautious approach to upgrades?

    In Thunderbird Windows updates are automatic by default. In order to avoid similar situations in the future, you could change that and decide to have a more cautious approach to updates.

    Before trying what anyone, make a backup of your Thunderbird profile.

    You can uninstall the current version of Thunderbird via Control Panel > programs and features and reinstall a previous version, download it from here:

    Click the type for your operating system. for example: If you use Windows select "win32", then select the language for example: en-GB British English = then download the .exe file

    You can customize the behavior of automatic updates, however, it is under Tools > Options > advanced > update.

    My suggestion would be to check the updates but let me choose whether to install them.especially if you depend on critical business e-mail / important or personal questions.
