local root folder selection problem in Vista

A friend has faced a problem of Dreamweaver, I can't find any info on that. When you define a site, when he tries to define the local root folder in navigation by selecting, the local root folder is set a directory higher than he is chosen.

I searched for info on the issue and cannot get what it is however when asking around, I had a few more people report the same problem.

I'm not much of a Windows Guy so no matter which another considering issue elsewhere / have any suggestions for fixing it?

Hi bobrast. Sorry to hear that you experienced this frustrating problem.

  • selecting problem local root folder

Hello world! I have DW CS4 on Vista and recently installed SP2. But I don't know where this problem started.

I created a new site yesterday and then today had to transfer the folder to another site, because he won. And both times, I was unable to select the folder. It was not isolated to these two sites, however. It seems to happen with all sites, regardless of where the folder is located on my machine.

Here's what happens: in the definition of local site, I click on folder icon to access my folder, find the folder I want, and then click the select"" button. But the file I selected does not appear in the path of the local root folder. It shows the previous folder. In other words, if the folder is at D:/websitefolder /, it will select only D: /. If the folder is, D:/folder1/websitefolder, it will select only D:/Folder1. I have to manually type in the name of the folder.

    What gives?

It's a recent thing, probably related to the update of Vista SP2.  The solution?  Choose a folder below level where you want it to be! 8)

  • Move a folder to one local root folder to another

I used Dreamweaver CS4 to build my site, and I became basically familiar with how it works. Now I'm just starting to build a second site - and I met a disconcerting problem.

I've defined the new site in the usual way and created the local root folder.

I have a folder full of image files which is currently placed in the local root folder of my old site - I would put this in the local root folder of my new site.

This may seem silly, but I can't find a way to move this one to the other local root folder Pictures folder. I thought it would be a simple drag & drop move, but it doesn't seem to be a way to do this. I moved the images folder on the desktop, from where it should be easy to drag the icon of the new local root folder in Dreamweaver and drop it in - but it does not work.

Am I missing something obvious here...?

You should be able to access your computer directory structure through the files Panel in Dreamweaver.

Click on the drop down arrow next to the named site (open) in the top of the files Panel and navigate upwards in the rest of your computer. You can then Ctrl + C (copy) the file, again select the name of your site (the Green folders at the bottom of the directory, not in the structure of the computer) and Ctrl + V (paste) the folder where you want to. Content will come naturally with her.

You could (alternating) copy and paste working within the structure of directories of the computer. Paste it in the new root folder and in Dreamweaver, refresh the view in the files Panel. The folder should appear fine.

Note that I was not slipping and falling, even though it should work with the latest technique.

  • change the local root folder

Totally newbie here - Sorry for the question of dim-bulb.

I have my current local root folder on my drive C. I bought a new external hard drive and transfer my local root folder to the new external hard drive. Easy peasy, right?

I've copied the existing on my new external hard drive - local root folder then went to 'Set the Sites' and update this section that relates to my site. However, when I try to update, I get a window with the following message "warning: the selected folder does not the current site home page contain.» The site map can be built.

I can't understand what I'm doing wrong. Someone out there who might be able to help? Thank you 1 million.

  • How to remove unwanted files from the local root folder of the site?

    Hello

I work with Dreamweaver CS4 on a Windows PC. I have finished my site but I have a lot of files in my local root folder that I don't want to upload to the server. These unwanted files are for most of the photos that I should not be used in my site. I do not understand how to download the site on the server using ftp and remote folder in Dreamweaver. I suppose that if I move the page html files to the remote folder that my photos will not be associated with these html files automatically. I used a Dreamweaver template during the construction of the site. I wish I had a folder with only the necessary files for the site (all html pages and a folder of images) to upload to the server. Is there an easy way to move all my pages and images associated with a folder or remove all unwanted files in the local root folder? As I see it now, I'll have to go through all my pages and write down each title of the photo and then go back and delete each unwanted file. This seems a lot of your time, so I thought that there must be an easier way, I hope.

Any help or ideas will be of course very appreciated, thanks, dluthier

I guess you mean 'work' files, not the images that you use in your Web site.

If they are not related to all pages of your site, you are free to move by using your computer's file management tools. I can give you specific instructions, if you wish, but the short of it is that you do not keep them in the folder root of your site at all.

In my way of working, I have a folder for each client that includes:

    • The correspondence of this client folder
    • Folder to 'Work'... the PNG images, etc., or of the images from the client
    • Record the site root

When I get e-mail, I save the message in the appropriate folder of correspondence, I save the images etc in the folder of 'Work' to the customer and I only save images and other who have already been optimized in the Site folder, keep it as intact as possible.

Even if the general warning must always use the files Panel to move files around, that applies to files which are linked and form part of the structure of your Site. Moving your files 'work' outside of the structure can be carried out safely in windows explore your PC.

That said, if you need to download and there are files you want to download, or to move, you can 'hide' the in the files Panel by right-clicking on the file name and choosing 'Cloaking '.... "in the context menu that appears.

To the point that the image files that are downloaded to the remote site will not 'automatically' be associated with your html files. That is right. Unless you have configured explicitly links or associations between files, images will not associate themselves!

On the subject of 'automatic' way to do this, you can make a link to check on all of your local site. Window > results > Link Checker will bring up the appropriate window, which will give you the choice: broken links, external links and orphan files (this is the one you want). Use the green triangle tower at the left end of the Link Checker to set your auditor... Current Local Document or a set current site.

If you want to make a checklist to ensure that you move them all, you can save the report by clicking on the small icon "Floppy" under the Green turn the triangle. Who will be on a file text and make up a dialog that you save the report, which will show the broken links, external links and orphaned files. After you move the files to your heart's content, rerun the link check and confirm that you moved the files you want to move. Make sure that you DON'T move files consciously... do not move the .htaccess files or .cgi files, etc.

Who will save you from actually having to 'write' file names!

    Thank you.

    u2a.jpg

    You use Windows 7, right?

There was a change in the Vista SP2 (which carried over to Win7) to the API that Dreamweaver uses to open this dialog box. Parent this translates to select the folder that you want to select.

To work around this problem, type the full path to the correct folder, or select a folder in the folder 'project' on your desktop.

  • DW can download the files from the root folder defined bad?

Can download Dreamweaver inadvertently a file from a local root folder set to the wrong URL?

I created and uploaded a website ( has) last Monday. This afternoon, I googled a second site, I set up a few months ago (site B). I found it ranked at the top of the page of Google, but Google fourth or fifth entry included the URL of the page 'Contact' of A site.

I clicked the link and found the 'Contact' of site A page as it should. But when I clicked on the Google cache, I discovered that at one point the site and the Web site B 'Contact' pages (seem to) briefly occupied the same Web page Monday afternoon.

I don't understand how this could have happened. I did not file for site B last week. I am certain that I didn't wrong download its files to the wrong site. And even if I had, not would be not the whole site - not just a page - have downloaded?

I hope this question makes sense to someone. I of course do understand.

    Thank you.

    PS I'm using CS4 on a Mac...

First off I want to ask have you actually checked on the host site to check the structure of the folders in each site? Are the two sites on the same host? Look and see if all of the pages where they are supposed to be.

  • How to access the "Local Settings" folder in Vista.

Have an Adware bug stuck to the folder "Temporay Internet" McAfee can't remove it completely. In XP, you could access the local settings folder to manually delete the Temp and Temporary Internet files. I liked to do this because you have been assured that all deleted. But in Vista, all I get is access denied! And this applies to other as well protected system files. Is there a way to change the security settings for this folder?

  • Files & folder sharing between XP, Vista, Seven with password protected

How to share files or folder between XP, Vista & seven... must password protected
My vista and my friend seven sharing very well, is password protected and I would like to add another XP at the center network and sharing as well, but I find the xp you have a problem, it can make sharing with vista & seven only without password protected and I would like to know how can I do with password protected sharing.
    Below are done on xp:
    1. install the update kb922120
2.secpol.msc-> authentication security LAN network manager set to send LM & NTLMv2 - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated.
Using Xp to Vista to access, seven a shared folder, no problem, while the password protected is located next
Using XP to Vista, the folder shared seven, the access you have problem while the password is defined on
It show no permission, but suppose that displays the prompt for credentials...

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.

In Windows 7, go to control panel > everything in Control Panel > network and sharing Center. Click on "change the advanced sharing settings. You don't want to use the residential group unless you have all Windows 7 machines. If you do and you want to use the homegroup, see Windows 7 Help & Support. Otherwise, in sharing advanced:

Discovery of plug in the network
Open the files and printers sharing
Turn on the sharing section Public folder sharing
    Plug the password protected sharing

    A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, running on Windows 7 sharing files and printer as above will take care of this for you. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus/security with its own firewall component program, then you're fine.  With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to the safety of any third party program or the user forums for how to correctly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

    (B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

    C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this:

Start > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).

    D. Si one or more of the computers on your network are XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

    E. create share as you wish. In Windows 7 I usually share the Desktop of the user and the Public directory. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Dreamweaver does not display the images of the root folder

Dreamweaver does not display the pictures in the folder root in the browser:

I use Dreamweaver CS6. I checked display > display external file, it is checked. I unchecked it executed the script, still no change.

I've been in the problem for weeks.

    It's driving me crazy. .

Thank you all. I finally discovered what the problem was. My ' link to ' was created at the root of the Document.

For later use, to all those who may have this problem:

    1. Launch Dreamweaver.
    2. Click on "Site" in the top menu.
    3. Select "Manage Sites".
    4. In the 'Manage the Sites' box, select your local site folder. For example, my_new_site
    5. Click on change icon (it's the second icon on the button "Import Site").
    6. The site for my_new_site configuration (for example) is displayed. Now click on "Advanced settings".
    7. Search "link to:" in the options, select 'Site Root '.
    8. Click on 'Save' later, the box disappears.
    9. Click on 'Done'... and you're done!

You don't need to restart your computer for the settings save constantly. But if that fell safe, Dreamweaver shut down and restart it. All links should display correctly.

But it is worth mentioning that all of the links in the following format will have to be edited:

    /.../.../main.php

Just rewrite the link paths not all scripts.

  • In a local storage folder, I can't view messages beyond a certain date

My most recent e-mail messages in a particular local storage folder cannot be found. I get the message "loading" and nothing happens. You already did a great job of troubleshooting - exactly what I would have recommended here if you had not already tried.  Play well!  Here is one that you did not and I would start one you tried (because I feel that it is perhaps the root of the problem.

Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt, right click command prompt and click Run as administrator (you can skip this step if you are using the disk).

If you use the drive, cd to C:\Windows\System32. Type sfc/scannow, go and let it run.  It will scan and try to correct some of your system files.  If all goes well he comes complete with no corruption, it could not repair (if it has these post of corruption here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.  Try to put all the corrupt files here so that we can see if they can be repaired with good copies of the installation disc (unless there are too many).

While in the command prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run.  She might want to plan itself to run at the next reboot (but I don't think that will happen if launched from the disk).   If so, answer Yes and restart to run the program.  It will scan and attempt to resolve any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and remove especially as a potential cause.  I know you tried this before, but we'll try again by using a slightly different command and see if it works this time.

I hope this helps.  If this isn't the case, then we should try to reinstall the system (backup first) as only option short taking in a computer repair shop. But we'll see what happens with the first above.
