Locked lightroom catalog

Hello!

After a reinstalled system, I realized that I can't open my lightroom catalog, because it is locked, save the file locked too, of course.

Legal methods exist to unlock the catalogue?

I don't know even how I locked my catalog, never faced this kind of problem.

Open the folder that contains your catalog and search for a file with the extension locking. . After deleting this file then Lightroom should start normally. This lock file is the ONLY file you need to remove.

Lightroom crashes as soon as I tried to save a file. I ended up having to shut down the computer, but when I rebooted and tried to open Lightroom, a window with the message "the name of catalog Lightroom"Lightroom Catalog"cannot open another application already has its opening". I have the ability to change to a different catalogue that allows me to open Lightroom, but I do not have access to my files! No other applications are open on the computer. Any suggestions?

Open the folder is your catalog. Next to the catalog file is a file with a .lock. This Trash and Lightroom should run again with your catalog.

    Help, please!

I've been struggling for hours to open lightroom. My computer turns off without reason, and then I went back into the light room and had the following startup message:

Lightroom can't use the lightroom catalog 5 catalog because it is not writable and cannot be opened.

I tried everything I can. I searched online and you have deleted the files of 'locking' of the catalogue record. I did what is obvious and just rebooted. I checked the 'permissions' and nothing has worked. Help, please. I JUST finished images edited in 1000 and I need to export. I won't cry if I need to change their brand new

In your OS, the folder that contains your catalog must have read & write permission.

If you think that you already have, we show a screenshot so that we can see in the Explorer Windows/Mac Finder folder that contains the catalog file; and show us an another screen shot of the permissions on this folder.

Also, please check the catalog file in your operating system to ensure that it is not set read-only.

  • Cannot open the Lightroom Catalog

    Hi.

I get a message on the screen in windows when I try to go on lightroom that says "lightroom catalog could not be opened because it has been opened by another application already and I don't know where it may be or even where to look? can you help me please

Go in the same folder as your Lightroom catalog file.

In this folder is a file whose name ends in. LOCK (probably all lowercase). Delete this one. LOCK file. Do not remove anything else.

  • Lighroom opens with a window telling me that the "Lightroom Catalog" is already open is not possible since I just restarted my computer?

Lightroom opens suddenly with a message "you already have open Lightroom Catalog. Close the other version of Lightroom? Never happened before, and master windows task says I have no other lighroom open?

The message says that you have an open CATALOG.

What this means, is that the last time you used Lightroom you don't close properly Lightroom and he left the CATALOGUE in a State "locked."  Maybe the computer crashed, or you just turned off?

    The fix-

First - find out where your catalog is stored.

Open the Explorer/finder on your site CATALOG and delete the file that has a name that ends in "... lrcat.lock."

Do not delete anything! Do NOT delete the file ending by "... lrcat ' (i.e. your catalogue with all your work!)

    Then restart lightroom.

The .lock file is a temporary file that is always created when you open a catalog with Lightroom, to prevent several users the same catalog to open at the same time.

  • Lightroom catalog cannot be opened. WHY?

My computer crashed. Lightroom is now ask me to re - enter the serial number of my software (I bought it before the set monthly subscription thing) and then telling me "cannot open the Lightroom catalog called"Lightroom Catalog"because is another application already open." I gives me the ability to "choose a different catalog", "continue" or "quit". There is no other catalog, I only have one created. I click on 'continue' and nothing DON'T get PAST. The message window will Flash, and here I am watching the same error message that gives me the same options to "choose another catalogue", "continue" or "quit".

WHY CAN I NOT ACCESS MY PROGRAM OF LIGHTROOM? HOW CAN I FIX?

It should be noted I tried clicking on the three options. "Choose a different catalog" simply evokes a directory showing what I already knew; that I don't have that one catalog. 'exit', of course, leaves through the window. I also shot to the top of my task manager to verify that no other programs/applications were running, so I don't know yet, I received this message from another application have my Lightroom Catalog open in the first place.

    Help, please

    It worked!
Simply by removing the file ".lock" with the same name 'error' catalogue spoke, I again was able to access Lightroom.

Side note: My mistake of 'catalogue' began to appear after my computer crashed as well.

Thanks for the advice everyone! penderra Hal P Anderson farriswlphotos

I can't open my favorite Lightroom Catalog. Others are able to open but not the recently used! And when I try to repair my catalog a green bar progress displays briefly, then this pop up.

I clicked on 'Retry' several times but it still does not work. My catalog is on an external hard drive with 1.46 TB of free space. I use Lightroom 6 on a laptop with Windows 8.

    I tried other things:

    • Looking for a .lock file delete
    • Create a new catalog and import the other catalog in it (when I try to it says "Lightroom cannot import this catalog.) This catalog doesn't seem to be a valid Lightroom Catalog.')

Help, please! I have not all backups with that I can restore my catalog. I am a student in photography and it would be extremely annoying that I lost all my edits/flags of this catalogue.

    You never solved this problem?

I am totally confused and aren't sure what to do next.

You need a new external drive, and you need to STOP using your old.

There is no real repair a hard drive once it starts to miss. Of course you can repair the file structure, but it's to get the file there. Once a drive starts to go wrong it will never get better or even remain the same.

  • Cannot open the 5.3 Lightroom Catalog. Download «...» It is not writable and cannot be opened"message.

    Hello world

I'm having a problem opening a lightroom catalog. I get a message "Lightroom can't use the catalog because it is not writable and cannot be opened.

The catalogue and thousands of RAW files are stored on an external drive.

Here are the steps that caused the problem in my view:

1 has worked with the catalog on my laptop. Disconnected the disk without closing first Lightroom (big mistake).

2 connect the external hard drive on desktop PC and did extra work. Closed Ligtroom (office) and disconnected the disk.

3 reconnect the drive of the laptop while original catalogue is always open (see #1 above). Clicked on an image at which point Lightroom crashed and closed by itself.

The problem now is that the catalog opens is no longer on computers. Any attempt to open the results in the message "Lightroom can't use the catalog because it is not writable and cannot be opened. There is no lock or log file that can be deleted, just the lrcat file and tons of files with preview of the data.

I hope this isn't a lost cause and I can still recover the catalog. There are 2 work days.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice!

Ok. I found a solution. As Ligthroom catalog is a SQLite database, you can use a database tool to fix it. Just download SQLite www.sqlite.org for your OS (Windows 7 in my case) and unzip into C:\SQLite for ease of use. Copy your catalog corrupted the C:\SQLite file as well as to keep things simple.

At the command prompt start > run, type 'cmd' and press ENTER. This opens the command prompt where you will need to run the following commands:

    1 cd sqlite

    2. echo .dump | SQLite3 yourcatalogfilename.lrcat > tempcatalog.sql

    3 sqlite3 - init tempcatalog.sql newcatalogfilename.lrcat

After the execution of line 3, you may or may not see error messages. No worries, it simply truncated faulty records that is what causes the catalog to crash.

Now, copy the newcatalogfilename.lrcat into your lightroom catalog file and run it. You should be able to get things up and running to where you left, or to the point where original Lightroom Catalog has been corrupted in first place.

I hope this helps. It took me a few hours to find a solution, but it saved me at least 2 days of work. Original credit goes to the author of the article according to http://www.simplyness.com/more-photography-tips/recover-corrupted-unrepairable-lightroom-3 - catalog - with - sqlite.html. It seemed to have worked for Lightroom 3 and still worked for Lightroom 5.3 in my case.

  • error. Cannot open the Lightroom Catalog

Hello, I receive the error message: "the called Lightroom Catalog catalog Lightroom 5 cannot open another application already has its opening" at the opening of Lightroom. There is no other application don't use it. There is one file available, not back to the top I was download a catalog of 5.3 TB over the past 4 days and has not stopped. RAW files are sitting on a separate hard drive to the laptop where the Lightroom Catalog is. I can't access this catalog now. I had a crash before it happens... someone can help here?

You must go to the folder where your catalog and look for a file with .lock extension. This file must be deleted, and then you can again use your catalog. Sometimes, if Lightroom closes abnormally, the lock file is not removed. And that's what causes this error message.

  • I'm almost happy!  My old Lightroom catalog was recovered!

I used Lightroom 3 on a Vista computer for a long time.  Saved all my images, external hard drives, but have not saved my catalog. Computer Vista died last year where the Lightroom catalog was stored. I was told it would be a lot of money to fix the computer so I bought a new 10 Windows instead.

3.6 Lightroom loaded on the new computer, my imported images from hard drives external and is returned to work, edit and import new photos, so start a new catalog.

My old computer has recently been brought back to life!  I copied the old computer lrcat file and pasted into the folder on my new computer where the lrcat.  I opened Lightroom, choose "Import Catalog", selected the 'old' catalogue, which then opened a dialog box requiring some choices to make.

Please help me with the choices.

News Photos, file management: 1 Add new photos to catalog without moving or 2. Don't upload new photos.  I think that the import is correct.

Change the existing Photos, replace: 1. the metadata and develop settings only or 2. Metadata, develop settings, and negative files.  I'm confused on the negative files and the correct choice.

Thank you for your attention, very grateful for your help.

You do not want to import the catalog file, you want to use the file-> open catalog command.

  • Help!  Adding extra images in my lightroom catalog

I'm having a brain PET!  I don't remember how to add additional files to my current lightroom catalog.  I was imaging and realized there were about 90 who were not currently in the Group of files, I was working on that.  How can I add them without losing the editing I've done on the other images?

    TIA

    Two ways-

    1. (and best) IMPORT.  Click on the import button, set the 'Source' folder of additional photos, set the method to 'Add', set "do not import duplicates" option. Click [Import] only the pictures that are not already in the catalog will be imported.

    2. with the folders Panel visible, right-click on the folder with additional photos wanted, select "synchronize the folder. This will open a dialog box that will do an import of additional files. Attention here!-this will also REMOVE the files that you have marked as "rejected".

And why these files (90 odd) has been in the front catalog? Ideally you should index every photo in the Lightroom Catalog (not be selective!).

  • Computer failure, hard drive readable: can not find the 5 Lightroom Catalog.

Computer failure, hard drive readable: can not find the 5 Lightroom Catalog. Help appreciated.

I used 5.3 LR on Win7, never pay attention in the name of the catalog used. My photo files were on the same physical hard disk D: partition.

Now that I have a new computer Intel NUC, with Win7 installed on drive C: (SSD M.2), I plugged my old drive hard drive E: (old C :) and drive F (old d :))

I have re-installed LR 5.3 and also upgraded to LR 6, , but the problem is that I can't find the catalog I was using with LR 5.3

I searched for *.lrcat and see all previous catalogues lightroom starting with LR 2, 3, 4, 5, getting bigger and bigger, but not catalog 5 including the current date.

The catalog would have another name or extension?

I have the old C: drive. Is there a config file that would confirm where the catalogue is supposed to be?

    Help!

HM, it is clear that it is not found on your old C: (so E :). )

And there is no config file to tell where to find the catalog to Lightroom. It's just that the catalog is in the place you choose (most of the people chose to have the catalog to the location by default...).

  • How to fix my Lightroom catalogs so that I can find all my photos?

Hello, before you start, yes I know I made some big mistakes over the years to implement lightroom catalogs and it became a disaster.

First of all, I have about catalogues en and seen the lack of pictures in most.  Even though I know the photo is I can see them on a photo after an exhaustive search.  I try and have lightroom locate in finder, but does not work in 99% of the time. Probably cause it has been moved or changed the name.  Photo of thew can also be in several catalogs, don't ask me why and how, because somehow the name changed, I have a big mess.

The pictures are spread over three discs in my imac and two drives connected to my IMac, which, according to me, the easiest way is to take all my photos and load them on a Lightroom Catalog and load them among the readers, so that everything is new.       But how to do this, I'm not sure.  I think that I create a new catalog and that import each photo from the disk, or maybe that I can do it by folder or maybe there's a faster way? This will change the name of the pictures and do all the other obsolete catalogs.

Maybe there is an easier way, HELP!  OTHER SOLUTIONS.  I HAVE ABOUT 20 000 PICTURES

    THANKS DAVE

    I have

Yes, it looks that you want to start, it's probably the best thing to do at this point... but... it is likely that you will lose changes and metadata that you have added to the photos. (The alternative is to solve problems, but it seems difficult and time-consuming account bound to the description above, but certainly possible).

It also seems that you want to change your workflow. I highly recommend a workflow where the photos are never moved after importation (EXCEPTION: If you move photos to a new computer or a new hard disk, you must move them). And you must do this "cold turkey", never, not even once, you will pass the photos (with the only exception I mentioned). I highly recommend a workflow where you use keywords and other metadata to allow you to organize and search; rather than to organize and search through folders.

To start again... you can move photos anywhere you want what they are using your operating system. (Remember, I said never move them after you import, so moving them before you import are correct). In Lightroom, select file-> new catalogue, give the catalog name in the dialog box that appears, and then import the photos using the Add option to import them from their existing location (or you can use the option COPY and Lightroom can put the photos in a beautiful series skillfully arranged in folders by date of capture). And NEVER move again (don't forget there is one exception), use the keywords and other metadata to organize and find.

Thereafter, use a catalog only. This will make your life much easier. Do not even consider the use of multiple catalogs (unless you have completely separate and unrelated topic, such as personal and professional photos).

  • multiple users to the same lightroom catalog

    Hello

I am a photographer Assistant and my question concerns his catalog synchronization and mine when he got back from a trip.

When he moves, he's working on lightroom with her laptop, and I work with lightroom since its main computer in his Studio, we are working on the same lightroom catalog and photo archive (it was copied on a hard disk). I wonder what would be the best way to synchronize updates and mine when he got back from a trip? I know that there are a way to connect all the different devices, but we need internet connection for this and it does not always has a.

    Thank you!

    [Read https://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-7273]

[Moved from the connections to specific program... forum forum MOD]

Lightroom is unfortunately not a multi-user program. He has been asked several times. The catalog must be on a hard drive (internal or external) which is connected directly to the computer. The catalog can NOT be on a network drive. The best way to share images and a catalog is to have everything on an external hard drive that can be moved from one computer to another.

Some users have found a solution by placing the catalogue in dropbox and seen the pictures (which CAN be on a network drive). But it's risky, and the catalog is vulnerable to become corrupt. The two users cannot access the catalog at the same time. And if a user tries to open the front catalog has been completely synchronized it can be damaged. The dropbox method is not recommended by Adobe. But if you want to take the risk on your own, you can do it.
