lost availability of time capsule

Unexplained loss of availability for the backup time capsule. Last backup was ten days ago. I recently added an express train from the airport to increase the scope of network, but it was less than 10 days ago.

What are the numbers of exact model of each of your airport base stations? Is your Time Capsule (TC) of your router "main"? In other words, is it connected directly to Internet modem by Ethernet? What is the brand and model of the modem? How long have you had this TC and have you had backup on her problems before adding the Express?

I have two time capsules and two Airport Express. About two months ago my time capsule rained stopped receiving (always orange flashing). And believe me, I tried! What should I do next?

I have a Macbook air running OS X El Capitan. I try to use my Time Capsule as external hard drive. But when I look in the Finder, nothing is available for shared devices. I don't know if I need to restart the time Capsule or change the wireless setting, etc. ?

    Please advise...

The TC appears in airport utility? If not then it is probably not part of your network or is lost... upgrade installed you El Capo because there a lot of questions.

What is the TC plugged into the network by ethernet? And configured properly? Are you to internet via the TC... but can not see his drive... that would be typical?

Have you set Finder preferences to display the network drives? Apple keeps making it difficult for some unknown reason.

You actually have to mount the drive TC if it appears under shared... it still may not appear if you double click on it. Under the search box on the top of the right hand you see Connect (As) box, type the name or IP address of the TC in there... Make sure that you save the password from your keychain.

I try to use my Time Capsule as external hard drive

For the storage of the files it is fine.

For the execution of direct files for an application in the Mac, you are very likely to damage or corrupt the file at some point.

And how do you do backups? Time Machine can't help you... it won't work.

Backup is crucial, especially if you do things apple say not to do... That is to say move your photos or the iphoto library to the TC and try to use direct from there... expect any day to need a resumption of the library.

Time Machine backup to a sparsebundle.

The sparsebundle will use the share name of computer. So, it should be obvious who is your Macbook and that is your Macpro.

Open the sparsebundle in Finder and keep open the subfolders until you get to the backup of each separate hard drive...

You has of course set the exclusion in Time Machine?

By default, Time Machine will exclude your second drive unless you have included it. Did you?

Once you get to this level during the backup, you can do a full restore manually whenever you want.

  • 'No available backup disk', Time Machine is not more Time Capsule

I have a time Capsule 2 TB and it has been used by Time Machine for many months.

A few days ago the Capsule detached from his power and today is now connected to the new.

Time Machine reports the error "backup disc not available."

Time Capsule lights are green, AirPort Utility is showing this device being lit also.

Time Machine knows how much space is available on this unit. However, it is not able to use this device to register older backups or to create a new.

I don't see this device in the Finder, although I couldn't see him there when everything is working well.

Airport utility indicates an IP address for this device and I can ping.

What to do now? Isn't it at least possible to mount to access the files on it?

  • Time Capsule has lost the Internet connection and DNS servers

I use a Time Capsule for Time Machine via Ethernet backups for a couple of years, use it in mode bridge taking its Internet connection directly from my router and connected in turn by Ethernet to my iMac. (Most of the time that I also had wifi off on my iMac and took my Internet directly via the TC Ethernet connection.) A few months ago I upgraded to El Capitan, and the TC has lost its connection Internet (flashing yellow). A few days later I drove back to the Yosemite (for other reasons - Mail had gone mad) to restore a backup of the TC and everything was fine again for a few months. It may or may not be meaningful I plugged TC yesterday to new laptop for my wife to support for the first time, and this laptop is running El Capitan. Since then, the TC has once more lost its Internet connection and DNS settings and is stuck on flashing orange. By clicking on the 'Internet connection' status alert, tells me that the TC is not a valid IP address.

I have reset the TC, repeatedly and reconfigured but all without success. After consulting the other discussions, I also tried giving the unit an alphanumeric name with no spaces & special characters and change the IPv6 "Link-local" configuration only, but this did not affect the result. And I updated the firmware for good measure. Then I unplugged overnight and carried out a full power cycle the steps recommended here, restart the router, TC and the computer (and performed a factory reset on the TC, while the router & computer was turned off). After doing that, the TC has become undetectable by AirPort Utility, until I have reset reconfigured once again, he and ended up in the same place.

It may or may not be important to mention the following:

1 when you set the TC after a reset, I repeatedly selected the option of adding to an existing network instead of create a network, but the installation wizard who ignored each time.

    2. in the installation each time, this point, I shows me the following, which seems to suggest that there is a problem but don't say so explicitly:

I would be grateful for any advice.

Weird how everything's going well for a few years and then crazy when you have something will change.

El Capo adds some network problems more... but something could be fundamentally wrong with the installer.

Your current configuration, it is apparently bridged but cannot get an IP address. The address 169.254 is give it since it's self generated.

You need to do a manual installation. It simply means the Assistant is unable for any reason to be your network so start over and do it manually of misfortune (wow, or also possible misery, woah being where you are now!) to go...!

    1. I need to know what modem you are connected. Make and model please?

    2. the most important. What is the main router on your network or a modem?

I gave the edge to make manual settings a few times. Somehow my instructions for Yosemite/El Capo got lost... I'll try and hunt down them. In the meantime, the basic method remains the same.

  • Time Capsule: No available backup drive

I read a bunch of wires and nothing has worked.

I have a MB Pro El Capitan 10.11.1, 2011 old version 2 TB TC running. I just moved and now have Fios new router/modem. Formerly Comcast.

I plugged TC AC and ethernet to Fios. Got the green light. Open Airport utility. Clicked on change. Network (came into bridge mode). reset and renamed TC (as in troubleshooting, someone said to be renamed TC with new installation).

I tried to make a Time Machine backup and get the message "backup drive is not available. I restarted. Nothing seems to work.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you very much

We do not know this as you've read, or have tried, but if you have not already changed the settings in Time Machine preferences to indicate your Mac how to locate your Time Capsule on your 'new' network... now would be a good time to do that.

Reason... If you have not done this... your Mac is still to try to locate the time Capsule using the path on your 'old' network... and your Time Capsule is now on another network 'new '. The Mac will never find that she can come back until he knows how to locate the Capsule of time on your network.

Did you do that?  After the back if you are not sure.

  • Time Capsule backup not available without reboot disk

I have the latest generation of time capsule, but my MBP cannot find the disc inside after restarting the device.  After a restart of the time Capsule the requested backup will take place without any problems, but if I ask another backup later, I again get an alert saying that the disk is not found, requiring another restart. This "solves" the problem, as the MBP can now find the disk and the backup takes place, but the whole point of Time Machine is supposed to be to provide Automatic backgroundbackups.  Any ideas?

    The problem is well known.

Seen here all the time. Solutions are not so easy.

We need to know the configuration of the entire network.

This modem you have, make and model please?

How is the TC connected and in what mode?

Is the Mac directly connected to the CT or via the modem that works as gateway?

  • Can't find Time Capsule/not available

    Greetings,

I've had my Time Capsule a few years. A few days ago, I noticed my Mac was market back is no longer. The TC does not appear in the Finder or AP Utility (I have to go "Set up another" connect at all). I tried to reset it, but it worked correctly for a few hours.

    Any help?

The are many post related to this here to the communities to Support Apple (CSA)

A 'solution' refers to those who have set up their base stations for Back to My Mac. If you did, how to follow recommended action is temporarily remove or disable this option, as follows:

    • Run the AirPort Utility.
    • Select the base and then station, select change.
      • Note: You may need to use the option "configure others...". "to access the base station. Enter the IP address of the base station, the default value is: 10.0.1.1 and base station administrator password when you are prompted.
    • On the tab of the Base Station, go back to the section of my Mac at the bottom of the window.
    • If you have entries here, select it and click then the minus sign "-" button to remove it.
    • Click on update and allow the base station restart.
  • connection lost of rMBP vs airport Time Capsule

It gets more frustrating and I noticed that a number of users had similar problems so I wonder if I'm missing something. Here we go:

    • Time Capsule 2 TB with the 7.7.3 airport firmware
      • Connected to the router of Virgin Media fibre optic (WiFi disabled in the box of the Virgin)
    • rMBP end of 2015 with all the updates and new OSX

All devices (2 x 2 x 1 x PS4, iPhones, iPads) seems to work very well. Apart from my MBP. What is going on?

    • WiFi a works very well.
    • All of a sudden nothing will load.
    • I can either wait a few minutes for the connection to continue or should I switch WiFi on & off and it works fine after that for another 15 minutes.
    • Keep in mind that the connection has not declined: he is always connected and showing all the bars.
    • It makes no difference where in the House, I the Capsule is not obstructed by anything.
    • .. .and only the MBP have these problems.
    • .. with this Capsule, .and everywhere else (work, Hotels, etc.) the MBP works seamlessly with other WiFi networks.

Any ideas? I did the factory reset - it worked once for a few weeks and then it started happening again. He did not work during the last 10 factory reset.

I assume that you are running the latest version of El Capo on your computer?

Have you installed upgrading it above Yosemite when you got the computer or shortly after?

There seems to be some DNS issues strange happening.

Wireless with Mac Laptops later issues are well known on the longer thread in this area is wireless questions about Yosemite... maybe soon overtaken by problems wireless on El Capo.

    Re: OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Yosemite no wired or wireless network

I think you have to look at the posts in the region for your operating system...

Let me recommend a few changes... You've probably seen the posts before if you've been trawling for info.

1 make sure IPv6 for wireless is set to the local link only on the computer.

    2. make sure that all the names are short, < 10 characters, no spaces and pure alphanumeric characters.

3 password identical, but longer. 8 to 20 characters.

    4. use the google DNS values... so, go wireless in and under the DNS tab and set up google DNS. (Or change the configuration of TC to see below static IP)

5 is the TC in bridge mode... (It probably should be plugged into a box of blank media)

Try using Static IP method instead... which has improved things in my configuration.

  • I lost my WiFi signal after having placed a time Capsule in the system. Now the Airport Extreme will not recognize the system. Any ideas?

Any ideas on why my Airport Extreme will not recognize the system after the integration of the time Capsule in my system? Continues to have a flashing yellow light after trying all suggestions of technicians from the Apple Store and Internet provider.

Since we don't know all what has been tried, we will have to start from the beginning if you don't mind.

What exact models are your AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule? What is the brand and model of your modem Internet? I'll assume that Extreme is your "main" router and is directly connected to the modem by Ethernet... correct?

Do you have the Time Capsule (TC) connected to the extreme, by wire or wireless? What is your goal for the TC? In other words, will not be used to extend the reach of the extreme wireless?

  • Time Capsule do not write back ups.

I have a continuous problem with Time Capsule, writing of backups.  After having no problems for a couple of years, TC is now fails to write backup every 3-4 weeks and I found no cause or a solution to the problem.

TC shows well in the finder, the sparsebundles are there.  Time Machine creates the sparsebundles as usual and will make backups normally for about 3 or 4 weeks.  The error message is displayed "Backup failed" and said that Time Machine is unable to write to the file.  At this time there the existing backup is lost, I have found no way to recover.   I wiped the hard drive via Airport utility, recreated the backup only to fail again in 3 to 4 weeks.

I've set up another 3 TB HD connected to the iMac USB and have TM write backups on it without problem while the HD TC continues to fail.

MPB worked until this week and today shows the same error.

My setup is pretty simple.  iMac connected to TC via ethernet, MBP connected via ethernet.  iMac backup to internal 2 TB on TC's MBP backup 1 TB external connected to the USB TC.

Apple support suggested that the problem is a bad ethernet cable.  I tried to replace the ethernet cable, no change.  Turn off ethernet using wifi, no change.

It is not a problem of space, on both drives only half of the available space is used.

Someone at - he speculate as to the cause and the cure.  It seems to me that the problem is related to the connectivity of TC, the ports are bad?   This is my 3rd TC in 6 years, not real happy with reliability!

Unfortunately, the TC is probably more reliable products Apple... my opinion.

It seems that the surface of the disc to the hard drive of TC has one or more faults that are causing backups corrupted after some time. The only good solution is to replace the hard drive inside the TC or replace the TC itself.

If you think that the surface of the disk is OK on the TC (I don't have, based on the experience), the only other thing to try is a full erase of the TC hard drive using zero on AirPort Utility.  It will probably take 4 to 6 hours or more depending on the size of the player you have on your TC.

If you don't want to lose the backups to other Macs, you need to copy to another drive before you delete the TC, then copy on once the operation is complete.
