  Lightroom has informed me that my laptop doesn't have enough storage, so I copied a lot of previously edited on my external hard drive (and then deleted the files from my laptop to make room) and then I tried to open Lightroom.  He said that he could not find the default catalog.  I realize now that I might have accidentally copied the catalog I was using for the past two years to edit photos on my external hard drive (or maybe even deleted).  I use a Mac laptop, and I've never implemented 'time machine' software to backup my data.  Help!

  How can I somehow get the name of the catalog (its been so long I don't remember the name).  Need direction serious, please.

  Hi David,

  On your external hard drive, search for files with the extension .lrcat and load as Lightroom Catalog has extension .lrcat.

• How to restore the lost catalog

  I had to import a new set of photos and created a collection for them.  I did something to lose my catalog year now when I go into Lightroom, it shows an empty catalog.  I tried to cancel it by editing, but there is nothing to cancel.  It changed my source of catalog.  How to change this back?  Thank you, Lucy (lightroom 5)

  Hi, Lucy.

  It seems that Lightroom has created a new and empty catalog.

  Try to go to file > open recent element and see if the original catalogue can be found.

  We have a database of catalog in a different server than that of production. By mistake, someone dropped the catalog database.
  We used to take backup of the production in nocatalog mode.
  so now if recreate us the catalog database and resync the catalog, then it will be possible to restore the previous backups of production or be the imact to recreate the catalog database.

  "By mistake"? How is it possible? Experienced DBA do not such errors. Nonexperienced s/n should not be granted these permissions

  Guys I need help with this. Whenever a turn of the external HD if I plug the same entry lost catalog the imagens links and I need to find the images in the catalog.   Yes and it's pretty simple.

  Open disk management. Start, type diskmagmt.msc and press the Enter key. You will get this window.

  

  Find the external hard drive and right-click on it and select "Change Drive Letter and paths".

  Then you get this window.

  

  Click the button change.

  In the next screen, select a drive letter at the end of the alphabet, and click OK.

  Now, all once again and this time select the drive letter that you want to have external. Once you change this back to the drive letter correct LR awaits you will have never have any other reader taking this letter.

  Note the drive should be connected and powered, and it should already have the correct letter.

  If another external drive is connected you first need to disconnect the other drive and your images are on.

  I'll try to explain this as best I can. I didn't save my catalog on my computer before formatting my computer. When I created a new catalog LR obviously, I lost my mobile catalog and my 400 images + disappeared. I don't understand why this has happened, the new catalog LR on my computer, overwriting the old. The issue I see is that I use 22 56 GB of storage, which I suppose is the previous catalog. How can I return this space? So I do not use a half my storage capacity for «lost photos»

  Just update you 13 windows 7 items... I sat until midnight and found the program data and ended up finding the catalog. I deleted the catalog now. and uninstalled items 13. I hope that when I reinstall it will be like new, and I can go back again. I had messed up I saw when viewing the photos in the media, it was media files and thought they shouldn't be there so I deleted them. Maybe thinking about now I get an error. Before, I made a slideshow with the media from the drive. I just started using elements 13 I used windows live previously for videos. Can you let me know also what photoshop elements or first, you use the most.  Also if I import video files in why do I see them I think of thumbnails. That's where I went wrong and thinking, they shouldn't be here. I brought a few books and trying to go through the learning process. What camera do you use?  Many questions sorry.   I opened an older catalog and lost the original catalogue with over 2 years of picture about it (I have never opened any other catalogs - I never chose to save either). It is not saved anywhere that I can see as a catalog on my computer. If I didn't save it before opening the oldest catalog (I don't remember specifically save anything) would it save in another format, other than a catalog somewhere?

  What happens if you choose file-> to open the new item? Another catalog is listed, and you can choose it? Simply switch to a different catalogue may not cause the previous catalogue to disappear.

• Avoid photos lost or missing/proper export/backup of catalog

  I am an amateur photographer who mainly take pictures of family and friends. Our PC just crashed about 3 weeks, so we bought a Mac and update of Lightroom backup off on our external hard drive as the internal hard drive from old PC. I got 4 Lightroom for almost 2 years and have been exporting photos in different folders on both drives (external and internal old PC) in order to not lose them, print them or simply classify elsewhere. For some reason, Lightroom showed hundreds of random as "missing or lost" photos THREE times since we moved to the Mac, and this last time instead of completely erase the Lightroom or charge, I spent 4 hours of hunting and gathering a TON of different files. I know I missed the part on export correctly to avoid this problem, but now that I have this huge mess, I have a few questions.

  1 how/why Lightroom is randomly pick up some files previously exported to lose without losing not others in the same exact import in the same exact folder? How or can I program it not to do so that I don't end up with 400 + photos "missing or lost" for the 4th time in a month?

  2 How to export? Obviously put on a desk or a hard drive, it is difficult for Lightroom to find later, is why the program loses records and I pull my hair back.

  3. can I save my catalog each time I have import new photos to go back if Lightroom shows a large majority of my photos "missing or lost" again?

  1. Lightroom is not 'lose' the files, this occurs because the user has done something wrong. You cannot move, rename, or delete these photos (or the folders that contain them) outside of Lightroom. If you stop managing your photos outside of Lightroom and do all the managing photos in Lightroom, the problem disappears. Better yet, develop a "workflow" that doesn't require you to move pictures from here to there. To resolve the problem with the missing photos, use these instructions: Adobe Lightroom - find folders and files moved or missing
  2. I would not use the export strategy that you have defined. I would export photos only when you need it outside of Lightroom (example: e-mail, web to print,) and once the exported photos have become useless outside of Lightroom, you delete the exported photos. The original is always managed in Lightroom, so you can find it whenever you need, and you can reproduce if necessary export.
  3. See my response to the #1, making backups is a good thing to do, in fact, I'd say it's mandatory, but is not the way to solve the lack of photo question, actually it will not solve the problem of missing photo.

  Target DB: PROD, catalog DB: CAT
  PROD database backup is taken at 10:00
  No backup copy is taken for CAT database and we lost the CAT database at 11:00

  Yes. The RMAN catalog is an add-on, it is not mandatory. You can retrieve the backup information stored in the controlfile.

• Lost and confused... .cannot get LR to find the catalog.

  I recently managed to corral all of my photos one a LaCie Rugged hard drive. It is the reader where I intend to keep my LR photos to have portability. As I have all my pictures on HD, as I did on the iMac running the latest available software, I changed the name of the catalog to "My Photos Lightroom"

  that are stored on the drive that is labeled "LaCie Photos".  After you get them on the LaCie during the same session, I was able to view them without problem.  Okay, I take the drive and connect it to my MacBook Pro, running the same operating system.  LR could not find the catalog.  I tried several 'remedies', which none worked.  I went back to look at the catalogue on the iMac to see how it has been configured so that I could do the same thing on the MacBook and iMac could not find the catalog.  Until I really mess up things I'd rather have someone more competent as me give me some simple advice.  Summary: How do running on an iMac and a MacBook Pro to locate and use the catalogue of pictures of LR

  Located on a portable LaCie Rugged hard drive?  I don't know that I placed the catalog where it should not be lost on the path to the catalog. I need to give specific instructions to the computer and I don't seem to be able to do.  Thanks for any help you can give.

  GCR49... I think you are making things very difficult for yourself.

  Why don't you start by putting your photos on the EHD, creating the catalog on the pictures on the EHD? In this way, you don't have to transfer the pictures later to SMT. In addition, file-> new catalogue allows you to create a catalog on the EHD.

  Do not... Are NOT... do multiple catalogs. "Subsequently, with much more practical, experience and focus I can decide to multiple catalogs if necessary" is a very bad idea, except in a very limited situations. Do not forget this.

  Please do a search using the search function of your operating system, for all files whose name ends in. LRCAT and then open each found by double-clicking on it to see if it's the catalogue with photos.

  It seems that you have inadvertently created a new catalog.

  Go to file > open recent, must be registered with your original catalog.

  You cannot use Lightroom Mobile to restore a catalog.

  You must restore a backup of the catalog on your external drive.
