  I sorted this out after reading the forum. I decided the STINKS device Mac Manager and so borrowed a PC. The Manager of OS and devices, and that allowed me to reinstall all applications downloaded. All works now. Always on my Mac it does not correctly connect updates.

  I don't know what system font is missing (or damaged), but it's often the Segoe font that causes this behavior.
