  • "Windows Easy Transfer" function is NOT easy!

I bought a new laptop and decided to try to move the old data by using "Windows Easy Transfer". There's NOTHING easy about it.
"I created the MIG file, but when I try to drag it onto the external hard drive it gives me the following error message: the file is too large for the destination file system.

I tried two different hdd with a lot of hard disk space. Both gave me the same error message.

  • Bookmarks under Win XP Firefox has not transferred to Win 7 FireFox with Easy Transfer

I followed the instructions from MS for the migration of my PC to Win 7 of WIN XP. I used Easy Transfer to save my settings on an external hard drive. After Installing Win 7 as a custom installation, I used Easy Transfer instructions to transfer user accounts and settings back to my PC. Then I started to reinstall my programs. When I reinstalled FireFox 28 bookmarks were not completed. Number of cases was in the list of bookmarks, but all the URLS that I have saved in these files were not there. I went on the external hard drive I used easy transfer, but there is only one program listed when I click on wants to redo the easy transfer. I don't think I want to do. How can I restore my favorites?

You could have found now, but if not, you should find it under:

    C:\Windows.old\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

If this folder is not visible, please see my link earlier in section of Microsoft technical support for the display of the hidden files and folders.

I recommend leaves all the contents of this file and make copies of what you need to (do not move files); This will allow you to make the future recoveries if necessary. This article lists the most interesting files: recovery of data from an old profile.

To restore an old backup of your bookmarks, it is easier to copy the last file in the old bookmarkbackups subfolder to a location such as Documents or desktop. Then use the option "Choose file" when you select the backup to restore. Restore bookmarks from a backup or move them to another computer

  • "the password is incorrect" after using Windows 7 Easy Transfer

The problem is that the 'password is incorrect' after using Windows 7 Easy Transfer.

I've already studied this problem on the Internet and in online forums.  A lot of people seems to have the same question/problem/question.  Noone has a solution.  Several members of the staff of Microsoft technical support provided responses which do not solve the problem, explain what is happening, or were intended to solve the problem of evil.  For example, many responses were that political Microsoft does not provide assistance when retrieving passwords.  OK, but this isn't what is asked for.  There is a problem and it would be good if someone has recognized that there is a problem and - at least - it is being researched if there is not already a solution.  Anyway, as many have already asked, here is my point of view trying to find a solution to this problem:

Used Windows 7 Easy Transfer to move user accounts and files between an old 32 bit Vista PC to a new PC 64 bit Windows 7. The transfer was made on a network without using an easy transfer cable. There is no errors during the transfer and user accounts on PC Windows 7 seem to be transferred correctly. Once connected to a user account on the new PC, opens a window titled 'Migration of protected content'. Text indicates that the protected content is transferred and request a password to be entered in a password field. I entered the PC Vista user account password, but the password was not accepted, and this error message is printed "the password is incorrect". All the transferred accounts had exactly the same problem, even if the original Vista PC account password has been entered correctly.

Studied this problem on the Internet and a suggestion to solve the problem is that the password requested is the STEM of simple transfer is used to start the transfer. I have re-transferred from user accounts and entered to the STEM of easy transfer when windows 'Protected content Migration' asked a password. Always to receive the same error message "password is incorrect" on all user accounts.

You will need to determine what password is requested. In my view, it should be the original account on the old computer password, but perhaps the easy transfer ROD. If it is not what should it be? If it's neither of the two, which? If it's the original on the old computer account password or easy transfer ROD, why aren't these being accepted because I tried them both. Once the correct password is available, is it possible to open the window of 'Protected content Migration' to enter the password without having to use Easy Transfer to transfer the accounts?

Finally, what is the protected content that is transferred? How will I know what it is?  It doesn't seem to be something missing in the accounts of user who is easily visible by me. If the protected content is not necessary then not being is not able to access may not be a problem. Because I don't know what content is protected, I have no way to assess if not available is important.

    Pegasus,

What password? The Windows logon password? Yes

Have you tried to log on as an administrator? Yes

Or using your database password key USB key file? No, but why?  I know what are all passwords logon and they seized everything correctly.  Again, the question that must be answered - by someone who knows - what password is asked?  Why are all the suggestions "try this or try that."  Nobody seems to be able to tell which password is requested or why.  What is the protected content that is transferred.  I don't think that there is nothing like DRM content on the original system.  Why this request appears?  Anyone know?

  • Windows Easy Transfer password problem

I had problems with my computer then before sending it for repair, I saved all my stuff on an external hard drive. Now I have my computer is back with a new hard drive and would like to transfer the information on the external hard drive on my computer repaired with the new hard drive. The files and what-not are save to the external hard drive as one. MIG file. I plugged the external hard drive to my computer then "computer" then "E: (external hard drive). I clicked on the. MIG file and before you start Windows Easy Transfer it tells me that something is opening and if I'm the one behind him to click on "continue". I click on 'Continue' and then a Windows easy transfer opens and asks me a password. I type the windows admin password and it tells me it's the wrong password. What is the password that is supposed to be if not the password admin I looked around and it doesn't seem like there's a kind of generic password (for example, 1234). What should I do?

I hope that someone a this forum can help out me.

    Thank you

    Hello

To add to what Mr.SuzukiBiker commented, this isn't the admin password it takes here, but the PASSWORD KEY.

Follow the steps mentioned in the article to create a new access key.

  • Password block Windows Easy Transfer - cannot open Windows XP easy transfer file

I did a uprade from my PC from windows XP to windows 7. However, before doing so, I used windows easy transfer to copy my files to a later transfer. The problem is, in the process, that I did not use a password. Now, I can't open .mig files transfer easily created on the USB external drive. I had seen several old posts on this same issue. Some have recommended trying to copy. The problem is that I have more access to the old XP files since the machine is now windows 7.
Is there anyway to pass the fast password in transfer windows easy when trying to backup files without a valid password (especially since I have not created a).

The Windows.old folder has two objectives:
    (1) can be used to uninstall Windows 7 and return your PC to the previous version of Windows.
    (2) contains a backup of all your files of data, documents, photos, Etc. from the previous version of Windows.

Note: Change the Windows Explorer option to see the Windows.old folder:
Click on start and enter in the box "Search": "hidden" (without the quotes)
Click on the "Show the hidden files and folders" option at the top of the list.
    In the "Folder Options" window
Click the 'view' if it is not already selected.
In the list "Advanced settings" locate "hidden files and folders".
Now click 'show files and folders '.
    Then, disable the following:
"Hide empty drives in the computer folder.
"Hide the extensions of the file types that you want to know."
    "Hide protected operating system files"

Click on the "Apply" button and the OK"" button.

  • I get the error message "there was an error of analysis of the data on your system" when you try to use Windows Easy Transfer

Original title: there was an error of analysis of the data on your system

I get this error when trying to use Windows Easy Transfer to prepare to move from an XP PC to a Windows 7 PC. It passes through the part of the selection on where I later import files then says he is scanning the disc and fails with the above error.

In the search for this error, I found information of 2007 could be be a nero problem AVI.  I don't have Nero installed and I can't find the log files in the directory MIGWIZ.

It is a small (50 GB) HD who do not have much space available on it (I'm not in front of it now).  Is there a minimum amount of free space needed to run this executable? That is why it is a failure?

Could there be other issues behind this failure?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello

Follow these methods and check if that helps.

    Method 1:

I suggest to download from the link provided below windows easy transfer tool and install it and then try to transfer the data back.

    Method 2:

Refer to step 2 and step 4 from the link provided below:

  • The Windows Easy Transfer of data application does not work if there are two windows of different language.

I bought a data transfer cable and I tried to make a transfer of data from the laptop with non - English Windows XP Profesional a laptop with Windows 7 Home via WINDOWS EASY TRANSFER viz English.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/features/Windows-easy-transfer
but I was surprised that I got a message "that a different language to the windows version has been so that data transfer can not live there. And above all, there was a message "that the data cable has not been detected."
Microsoft is working with so many language versions, then why this simple problem is not solve upward? It cannot be too big problem to compensate for a versatile application that would work on all versions of Windows.

No, it doesn't work of course between the various language versions, has never and will never be.  Will not be fixed either, because Windows XP is in the extended now support (only security patches issued) and becomes entirely non supported in about a year.  Save and move documents using a different method.

  • Easy transfer password problem.

I try to use Easy Transfer to transfer to an old PC (XP) to another (Vista Home Premium 64-bit).  During the creation of the CD on the old computer I did use a password.  Now that I'm trying to load the CD on the new computer, I get a message that says "the passwords do not match."  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello

During the easy transfer it does not prompt you a password. So could you please brief me in what concerns when it's to ask a password?

Try to connect as an administrator and then try to transfer easily.

  • Are there 'different easy transfer cables? "

I'm confused about the number of available easy transfer cables.

Can I buy a cable 'alone' and it allows to facilitate the easy transfer of OS from Microsoft at the following address:

    XP, Vista, Windows 7?

If I can, what cable do I, there seems to be so many available?

    Best regards

    Mike Lynch

    Hi Mike,.

The cable is specific to the connection of two computers, in order to avoid a short circuit, because the two USB ports on computers are powered:

    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Easy_Transfer_Cable

    Similar to a crossover cable:

    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossover_cable

They are not operating system specific, more specific material.

I think you'll be OK with one, but ask the manufacturer to be sure.

  • Is there a 64-bit to Windows 7 64 bit download Windows 7 easy transfer?

I got a new computer, the same version of Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.

I have the custom system as I want and would like to transfer all the settings for Windows and Office.

I've seen a lot of discussions on "Windows Easy Transfer", but all the references seem to focus on a different version of Windows and the downloads are also for the different versions of windows, I found.

Will there be a version for transfer settings for a Windows 7 64 bit for Windows 7 64 transfer?

If Yes, where can I find it?

I would like to just image, but I want to clean it up the installation of the new computer.

Yes!  It is integrated with Windows 7 itself.

Attach an external storage drive.  Create a folder on this subject.

In the text box that precedes the start, Easy Transfer will be listed, type Easy Transfer.  Click on it.

  • Easy Transfer Wizard error: there is not enough available disk space to transfer your files and settings. The download file size is 40 GB and I have a C: drive that says he has 280 GB free and a D: drive has 298 GB free.

I made a successful backup of the Easy Transfer of files on an external hard drive.  Previously, this computer was in Vista for more than 1 year without any problem.

After you perform a custom installation (I wanted to start with a clean install) of Win7, everything works.  I installed the Windows/Office updates and all my other program files.  When I run the transfer Assistant, it locates the 'old computer' transfer file and reads OK, showing users and the size of the 40.1 GB file transfer.  When I click the button forward, I get error: there is not enough available disk space to transfer your files and settings.  However, I have more than 280 GB free on my C: drive.

This disc is watching him and what should I do to work around this problem.  If I can't get my files/settings back, I'll be VERY unhappy customer.

I've just passed through even - WET previous Dell PC running Windows 7 Ultimate to HP with Windows 7 Home Premium. The Belkin Easy Transfer cable help.
WET said not enough space even if the hard drive is twice the size.
I clicked on "Advanced" and noticed that WET strives also transfer Dell factory image from the recovery partition and the HP recovery partition was smaller.
I unticked (unchecked) files recovery partitio on old computer and everything is going very well from hand to hand.
    Hope that helps!
