Password block Windows Easy Transfer - cannot open Windows XP easy transfer file

I did a uprade from my PC from windows XP to windows 7. However, before doing so, I used windows easy transfer to copy my files to a later transfer. The problem is, in the process, that I did not use a password. Now, I can't open .mig files transfer easily created on the USB external drive. I had seen several old posts on this same issue. Some have recommended trying to copy. The problem is that I have more access to the old XP files since the machine is now windows 7.
Is there anyway to pass the fast password in transfer windows easy when trying to backup files without a valid password (especially since I have not created a).

The Windows.old folder has two objectives:
(1) can be used to uninstall Windows 7 and return your PC to the previous version of Windows.
(2) contains a backup of all your files of data, documents, photos, Etc. from the previous version of Windows.

Note: Change the Windows Explorer option to see the Windows.old folder:
Click on start and enter in the box "Search": "hidden" (without the quotes)
Click on the "Show the hidden files and folders" option at the top of the list.
In the "Folder Options" window
Click the 'view' if it is not already selected.
In the list "Advanced settings" locate "hidden files and folders".
Now click 'show files and folders '.
Then, disable the following:
"Hide empty drives in the computer folder.
"Hide the extensions of the file types that you want to know."
"Hide protected operating system files"

Click on the "Apply" button and the OK"" button.

  • Cannot open the document because the file is locked. Use the 'Properties' command in Windows Explorer to open the file.

    I am a member of the Administrators group on my computer.  I have a folder full of files and other folders that I denied access for administrator users.  Not sure when it appeared that I had gone for the holidays, but now I am unable to open the files located in this folder.  I can delete, move, and rename at will, but can not open.  I tried all the resets of permissions I can think as well as read all knowledge base articles I can find but still not get these files to open.

    I've recently updated MS Security Essentials, do not know if this has a any correlation.

    At one point, I saw the certificate and it ranked as not approved.  How would this change?  Would this impact my ability to open files yet again let me move, delete and rename?  If so, how can I solve?

    I restore to a restore point previous and not yet open - also received an error message telling me MS Security Essentials would not work properly.  So I undid the restore.

    Thank you in advance for any input.  PatrixUSA

    In fact, it starts to make a lot of sense today.  The files that you have problems with have been encrypted with EFS.  EFS is closely related to the NTFS file system.  As long as you move files encrypted in the same Volume, it is not a problem, because a move is an operation of directory and the directories themselves are not encrypted (only the files that are there).  Whenever you move an encrypted volume to another file, the file must be decrypted, transferred to the other volume, then re-encrypted to destination.  Thus, the destination volume must be a NTFS file system to keep encrypted files.  If the destination is not a NTFS volume, then the copy would result in a file that is not encrypted at the destination and you will be prompted as to whether or not to allow the operation.  In all cases, a copy of volume-volume requires decryption of the file and any operation that requires a decryption error of access for you - more your inability to open a file normally indicates that you no longer control the certificate to decrypt the file.

    Backups are another matter.  If you are using Microsoft Backup utility (NTbackup), so he recognizes the encrypted file attribute and it backs up as - is without decoding.  Other 3rd third-party backup programs may not recognize the encrypted files and simply read and write to the backup media.  When this happens, the files are automatically decrypted to read (assuming the user certificates requires archiving) and writings of backup to a file unencrypted.  This would explain why you can retrieve an archive and it is not encrypted.  DVD and optical bands do not use NTFS, so a decryption of the original file is required to save in these environments.

    The private part of your (needed for decryption of files) EFS encryption certificate itself is stored encrypted on your computer.  To decrypt, Windows uses your SecureID, password, and other things of which I'm unaware.  If your password is not reset in the normal way (i.e. by entering your current password and your new password) such as an administrator, then your certificate is not re-encrypted to your new password and your access lose him and with him, access to your EFS files.  Other forms of corruption can cause you to lose your certificate, but it seems that at some point you have lost access to your certificate and therefore cannot access files that have been encrypted under this certificate.

    New files that you write in a directory that has been activated with EFS will notice that you have a valid certificate and then automatically generate a new certificate that will be used to encrypt files from right now.  That's why the new files that you add to this directory appear to work well.  The only real mystery what I can't explain is the reason why a system restore to a time where it wasn't a problem does not allow you to restore access.

    If you want some heavy reading, try this:

    "Encrypting file system in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003"
      <>http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457065.aspx >

    Personally, I'm not fan of the EFS because of problems like this.  I prefer the freewareTruecrypt which is just as safe, but I myself manage keys (in the form of password) instead of Windows.  Also, it hides the names of files and can be used safely on a connection in network and backup from windows volume is encrypted little matter how they are done.  I have not lost all data encrypted in more than a decade.

  • CANNOT OPEN TWO OR MORE PDF FILES AT THE SAME TIME

    Since Adobe Acrobat is released, I could double click on any PDF and it will open a new window.  I use six monitors so I could open and compare six different PDF files at the same time.

    Then all of a sudden about two years, all PDFs started tile in the same window.  This made side by side comparisons is impossible.    What's crazy is not a single person I contacted can understand it.  Even the most intelligent guy (even Adobe technicians) cannot understand how the do-but it was something he always did in the past.

    This is such an obvious feature and the answer should be easy.  Someone on another forum suggested this, but there is no button or option checkbox "Display each document in its own window" - which is what I'm actually trying to do.  The person who asked this question is in the graphic industry told me that she never found an answer after more then 3 years asking.

    What the devil?  Nobody really knows the answer?  Wow.  If I had to open a MS Word window and click on the program again, it would keep opening more and more windows side by side, so I can compare, cut and paste.

    Nobody knows the answer to this simple problem?

    I use Adobe Acrobat 7 and 7 Professional.

    Edition > Preferences (ctrl + k), under Show place settings check "display each document in its own window" and for good measure, clear check to "open interdocument links in the same window.

    Hi Julia,

    Acrobat 7 is not supported by Adobe & its not even compatible on Windows 7. It is not possible to predict how the application on an unsupported environment will behave.

  • Cannot open in only two JPEG files.

    I was not aware of this problem until recently, so I can't tell you when it failed.  I went to search for images in the file and now they won't open.

    I tried in the Gallery of photos, paint and PhotoShop CS2.  I get errors of each of them as written below.

    MS Photo Gallery: Photo Gallery can't open this photo or video.  This file format is not supported or you do not have the latest updates to the photo gallery.

    Paint: C:\Users| Owner | 2009 | 07. IMG_3618.jpg Paint cannot read this file.     Is not a Lea bitmap file, or its format is not currently supported.

    PSCS2: Could not complete your request because we find a unknown or invalid JPEG marker type.

    In his only two files that are July and August 2009, so the files were fine until recently, but it may have been several months since I looked inside.

    I have Vista Home Premium, I believe.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi BWildAussie,

    ·         Are you able to open other.jpeg files in MS Paint or Windows Photo Gallery?

    ·         You did it of any material changes or software on the computer before this problem?

    ·         What is the file size of JPEG files?

    For now, I suggest you to copy two .jpeg files to another computer and check if you are able to open them.

    Please provide us with more information so that we can help you in a much better way.

  • Cannot open Epub, but correct pdf files

    Hello

    When I try to download an ebook of kobo, all files pdf opens automatically in the Adobe digital editions. However, all of the epub files will not open in the form of books, just zip files. I tried save them on my computer and opening, but they save as a zip folder and simply open the subfolders that contain pieces of the ebook. It's really frustrating. I hope someone can help me. Thanks, DS.

    One vial .epub is a disguised... zip file it seems as if your default opening programme is evil.

    Check first if you can open the Digital Editions (ADE) drag - .epub files move on ADE or by file/add to linbrary (ctrl-O).

    If it's ok, associate .epub files to ADE. can be easy, sometimes clumsy...

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Sometimes the recording of the ADE for Windows as the default handler for files .acsm and .epub does not;
    This is what causes the double click in Explorer gear;
    especially in Windows 8/8.1 and maybe 7.
    This seems to be a bug in Windows (for once not a bug in ADE).
    Two possible ways around it.
    First of all, try to force it to explore
    Right-click on an .epub file (and if necessary, repeat the full sequence for .acsm)
    Select 'Open with' If on the list, 'open' if not.
    Select "choose default program".
    Select ADE if it's on the list.
    Otherwise select "options" and go to the executable of the ADE (may be C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Digital Editions\digitaleditions.exe)
    Now the fichiers.epub/.acsm must be associated by ADE, and a double-click should work.
    Sometimes, Windows allows you to go through it all, but then refuses to make the association you have requested.
    In this case, the only way I know is to use a third part program file association.
    http://www.Softpedia.com/get/system/system-miscellaneous/types.shtml works for me.
  • Cannot open encrypted after you remove files from the account which them encrypted.
    I have some encrypted files a few days back... Then I had to remove this user account and now I do not remember that I have...-encrypted files now my new account (type administrator) I can't access those files. So, how can I open these files? They are very important. I use widows xp service pack 3.
    I also tried to start windows Safe Mode, then changing the security options to allow me full control... but it still does not work
    I know that the function itself has been developed for the safety of the files, but there must be a means of decryption by another administrator account.
    Please tell me a way out as soon as possible.
    Thank you!
    I'm assuming that you encrypted these files using the available XP Pro Encrypting File System (EFS).  Unless you've backed up your encryption certificates or have a backup of the image-style where you can completely restore your system to exactly how it was, you will have great difficulty to recover these files.  Required for the use of EFS is the short article.  Particularly in the paragraph titled "why you should back up your certificates.
    "Best practices for EFS file system.
      <>http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/223316 >
    It is possible that the remains of your old user still exist on your disk.  If so, there a program designed specifically for people in your situation that may be able to retrieve the certificate.  No guarantee, however, but it might be worth trying:
  • Cannot open all programs, particularly .exe files or programs.
    Help!
    I may have an idea of the problem, but I don't know how to fix it.  To give a race to the bottom; I already had utorrent on my computer. I open utorrent and he said that he had a new version/update available, so I've updated (uTorrent) and from there the problems began.  In one of the windows it asked me if I wanted to "Open with this program" and "always open programs like this with" (utorrent) is what he asked.  From there on, I was not able to open anything.
    Even in safe mode, I can't open anything.  All I can do is go on the internet. I can't even open the registry, System Restore, the prompt command or anything that might help me to solve the problem.  All my programs had tried to open in utorrent, but then I deleted it. Now when I try to open something, for example Microsoft Word, it is saidC:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD. EXE "this file has no program associated with it for performing this action.  In the control panel to define Associations, create association. »
    Another message that I get when I try to open many other programs or the restoration of the system, the command prompt is:
    'Open with '.
    Choose the program you want to use to open this file:
    File: rstrui.exe
    cmd.exe
    In the box, it recommended programs:
    Internet Explorer
    Other programs
    I doubt it's a virus I have the total package of moy.  I've seen this problem before on a brand new computer I was using utorrent, but I just restarted and it fixed.  Not this time! I am really pulling my hair out!  Please help me if possible.
    Go to http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/22/reset-and-fix-broken-windows-vista-file-ext-and-type-associations-include-exe-com-sys-zip-lnk-folder-drive/ and click the EXE LNK to reset these file associations.  That should take care of your program files.  I don't know if this will solve the problem with other file types, but at least it's a start.
    I hope this helps.  I would like to know if other types of files are still screwed up or if this problem fixed them as well.
    Good luck!
