  To free up disk space, I moved files on an external drive. This was done inside LR by doing drag (subfolders) to C:\... \Lightroom\yyyy to E:\... \Lightroom\yyyy.

  Now, when the external drive is disconnected, the preview/thumbnails are gray. I need to connect to find missing photos.

  I understand that LR keep thumbnails in the catalog.

  It looks like your work and external backup drives shared drive letters. This is a problem common when you use several external drives, USB drives and card readers, etc. who are often deleted. This can be corrected using letters M well that Z rather than E and F. You will have to reconnect your 'work' inside LR disc after you assign a new drive letter, as shown below. The backup drive should not be visible or accessible from the inside of the module LR library for obvious reasons. This should fix the problem you are experiencing.

• Power hit causes lost previews

  I took a power hit yesterday when using LR.

  Now when I open it, most of the miniature previews is missing. The grid squares are there and the metadata in the right panel are there. Photos (files on disk) are there, of course.

  When I'm out LR, I try to save the catalog. I get a warming message that says "Lightroom has encountered an error when reading the preview cache and needs to stop smoking. Lightroom will attempt to solve this problem, the next time it starts. "I click OK, and then the program hangs and I have to force him to leave.

  Looks like the hit of power may have caused part of the preview cache corrupt. If so, however, why LR never would detect a problem when it opens? Because it is later perhaps the catalogue has been altered, yet once it opens fine, but metadata seem to be OK.

  First I would try to rename the preview cache. It is a folder in the same folder as your catalog lives in. It is named ... lrdata. Then bring up LR and see if it starts to rebuild previews. If it works, then you can delete the file that you renamed. It won't cost you your job, even if it may take time to rebuild previews, if you have a large number of them.

  Note: your catalog is named .lrcat, and you don't want to rename or delete.

  Depending on how the bad hard drive is, you might be able to plug it as a secondary drive and specify files off of it or send them to a service to extract the files. I don't think there is anyway to recover the files through something that first creates.

  That is simply how AE. Only the RAM previews ensure real-time playback. AE is not an engine edit suite or in real time of the game, it's a compositing software.

• Please help, somehow I lost my main composition layer window to preview

  Hi, this is probably the easiest problem to solve, but I didn't chance after several hours. Situation: I have a Setup dual monitor and I was working on AE with my preview window for my main composition on my secondary monitor. I closed the program and reassigned my priority of monitor (switched primary monitors). But, when I open AE I noticed that the preview of main composition window had disappeared and I can't locate.  I tried reassigning a new layer in the composition window, but when all the layers open composition, it won't let me see the preview of the full model, only previews of individual layer.  Please help, I have deadline and it is a problem.
