LR6 cannot open the catalog, said it is used by another program

Hello

I'm on PC, Win7, LR6.

No other program is open I see. It just happened one day. I had problems with a dialog prompt asking me to pass.

And why is it impossible to get in touch with people from Adobe support? :-(

Anyone know what to do?

See you soon,.

Navigate to the folder that contains your Lightroom catalog file. Looking for a file whose name ends in. LOCK. Remove this item. LOCK file. Do not remove anything else.

  • I just upgraded to window 7 for windows does not start Lightroom 10 6 because it cannot open the catalog or one of my backups

I just upgraded to window 7 for windows 10. 6 Lightroom does not start because it cannot open the catalog or one of my backups

Yes, once the user account is the upgrade to windows 10 have permission on the folder of photo issue, which prevents the Lightroom to create the necessary temp file when the catalog is launched.

This is the reason why I asked to copy the catalog file to another location to narrow down the reason for the problem.

I am unable to use Organizer in elements or Prime Minister. An error in says: "cannot open the catalog. An internal program error has occurred. »

I tried to reinstall and update but the problem persists. I use the Version 12 on Windows 8.1.

    Hello again

By trail and error, I found a solution to 99%.

Right-click on the desktop, the icon of elements.

    Select Troubleshoot Compatibility.

    Select troubleshoot program

Select a problem (I used the other)

Select the Version of Windows (Windows 8 for me)

    Select the Test program

If it works, which he did in my case, save the settings.

This seems to have solved my problem, except that I now get an extra screen at the opening of the elements to allow the program to make changes to my computer. I can live with that.

When I get time I will check if there is any Adobe or updates to Windows that will make this unnecessary step.

I hope this helps other people with the same problem.

Thanks for responding and making suggestions.

  • Cannot open the catalog on CD

I need to export a catalog for a college assignment and burn it to CD. The export had a slight hiccup with conflicts in the metadata to dng files 2, but I just ran over the data. The main problem is when I burned the files on a CD and tried to open the catalog on CD, I get the following error:

"lightroom cannot open the catalog named"..." "" located on the DVD RW drive (e) volume because Lightroom can't save the changes to this place.

What I am doing wrong? I use LR3.4 and under Win Vista on my laptop at home. Is this a problem with my pc? Can I use the Mac to College instead? I need to know as soon as the transfer is due May 11, 2012 (on Friday).  Thanks for any input.

A catalog cannot exist on a CD and be used as a catalog must be writable and are not CD. You can copy the catalog from the CD to the computer, that you have the CD to use however.

The best option is to use a flash drive (USB key) for that well that rather than a CD.

  • Organizer of Photoshop: The catalog could not be opened because it is currently in use by another program

    Original title: Louise

I think I can cut my computor while organizing photoshop was running. Now when I try to open an icon appears on the bar tasks with a noise of error. I can fly over the icon and it shows me my photos but I can't open, all I can do is to close. It was suggested to go to Task Manager and shut up there and the first time I tried this he showed that run and I closed it down. But I still can't open it and it shows is no longer in the Task Manager. I got a message

The catalog cannot be opened because it is currently in use by another program.
I tried the system restore to a time before this glitch.
I have uninstalled and installed the program.
How can I find where it runs when I can't find it in the Task Manager?

    Hello

I suggest you to send your query to the Adobe community forum as they would be in a better position to help you with this question.

  • LR3 cannot open, said currently in use by another program?

Hi - I used LR3 successfully, but I tried to open one a few days ago and I get a dialog indicating that it is in use by another program. My Task Manager shows no other programs running. The options in the dialogue keep me going in circles. I have tried connected and not connected to the Internet, and without difference. I tried to uninstall LR 3 and still get the dialog box. Any suggestions anyone at - it a solution please...? My operating system is Vista.  Thank you. Terry

LR by default creates a subfolder in your pictures folder called Lightroom and stores your catalog, previews, LR preferences and others. While you have open LR it also creates a file called "Lightroom3 Catalog.lrcat.lock". This is to ensure that no other users can access the catalog while it is in use.

When LR is closed the file *.lock is retired, however if LR is not closed properly the files of the *.lock downwards remains and LR stop it from sliding.

With closed LR check your "pictures > lightroom folder and see if a *.lock file is present and delete the file.»

    Then try to open LR.

    Hello

You have installed any other software burning CD on your computer?

If so, then uninstall the software and check if it makes a difference.

In addition, perform a clean boot to verify if a third party application or service that runs in the background is in conflict with the burning process.

Refer to this article for more information on the clean boot.

  • Updated to 2.6 help cannot open the catalog

I can't open my master catalog after upgrade of LR 2.6 yesterday.  I did the upgrade and was using the

new program just dandy however after a computer restart I couldn't LR to boot at all.  When I went in the record folder and clicked on my most recent save I get nothing.  When I try an other old file that I receive is not writable and cannot be opened. When I return to a really simple file I can get the open LR but then it won't go to a most recent catalog.  I'm the kind of panicing here.

    lrcat. Lock

The first file to indicate that the LR (lrcat) catalog is locked, which means being used by an instance of execution of LR and therefore cannot be changed by another instance of LR, until the first unlocks it for use by others.

    lrcat. Journal

This is the log file of the catalogue. A log file is kind of what you think of the history - all the changes that have occurred since the last time that these changes have been written in the catalogue.

It is a little bare on technical details, but should give you the idea.

A lot of programs that use a database works this way.

  • Cannot open the catalog as it is "invalid".

Tried to open my catalog which I used without problem, and today I get the below error message. There is no file locking. I tried to update my software, I also tried to create an another catalog and import the catalog, nothing helps. It appears that in the catalog, there are zero file size. Help, please!Screen Shot 2016-09-15 at 10.35.46 PM.png

If the file size is zero, it is not a valid catalog, and there is nothing to open.

You must restore the backup catalog file.

  • 5.7 Lightroom on Windows 7 64 bit home says that it cannot open the catalog because it is not writable or is in use, but it is writable and is not in use.

I just reinstalled and all my Lightroom stuff is in a single folder. So I simply pointed out Lightroom in the folder once it has been reinstalled, but I get this message saying 'Lightroom cannot use the catalog because it is not writable or in-use'.
    Any ideas what is wrong?

Trying to find a file whose name ends with .lock in the same folder as your catalog file. If there is such a file, remove it. Do not remove anything else.
