  I'm newish to the whole thing vmware/iscsi, but got it to work once.

  Environment:

  HB BL460c (32 GB of ram, 2 x local 146 GB SAS HD, nc382m HBA)

  vSphere ESXi 5.1

  MSA2012i (12 x 1 TB HD)

  I created a vswitch (VMkernel Port) to port1 of the nc382m (vmnic2) and then added the virtual iscsi adapter to connect to them.  A re-scan one I could add the LUNs available on the MSA as storage on the esxi host.  Everything was fine.

  But, I created a second logical unit on the MSA number (it is shared to all hosts) and I re-scanned on the esxi, but when I try to add storage no LUNS are listed.  I followed the same procedure as the initial installation, which worked fine and now no joy.  I searched the forums for ideas but not so far seems applicable, since I was able to do this for a single logical unit number but can now add a second logical unit number.

  The issue has proved to be a bug/flaw in the MSA.  The MSA I use has only a single controller/processor storage and apparently regardless of whether it has one or two SPs it assigns new vDisks of alternately between both SPS 'potential '.  So in my case the first vDisk was entrusted to SP - A and worked beautifully.  The second vDisk was assigned to the same SP - B hard did not exist.  Therefore, it was not visible for ESXi hosts.  Change of 'ownership' of the second vDisk lun was visible on the ESXi host.

• LUN ESXi 5.1/store data not visible in trying to 'add storage '.

  I just added two 300 GB hard drives in my RAID, reconstructed and checked that the size has increased in OpenManage, but I am unable to actually increase the size of the data store residing on the RAID from the vSphere client. See photos attached. In photo 1, you can see the new size in OpenManage. In photo 2, you can see the data store I want to enlarge. Refresh or rescan everything has no effect. When I click Add storage, you can see in Picture 3 that there is no warehouses to choose. It's the same thing in November when I added a drive, but it was under warranty and a remote Dell technician in and did some fancy table/file system partitions while SSHed in to solve the problem. What I have to do the same thing or there at - it another way? If the former, how?

  I solved this through the command line. I followed the instructions at more a local data store from the command-line in vSphere, ESXi 4.x and 5.x.

  If you were stuck in the GUI as I was and you will find the daunting command line, just pay attention to what each step says you and document what you do as you do, so you don't get lost. If you learn what you are doing as you do, it just makes sense.

  I guess you're just réanalysant the HBA? Or you try to add a VMFS volume? The procedure is simple:

  (1) area

  (2) present to the guests

  (3) rescan HBAs on the host

  (4) add VMFS volume

  (5) rescan all guests (usually performed automatically by vCenter after completing step 4)

  I started with 4 esxi servers 5 to test the object with the method of assessment and added the common datastore on all 4 servers for virtual machines that worked very well. but the tests I formatted 2 esxi servers and installed ESXi 4 top, now when I am adding common storage in these 2 ESXi 4 Server I get the error attached, I have found the solution so that it can delete the partition with fdisk command to this logical unit number, but this LUN is common for all 4 servers and virtual machines running on it for 2 ESXi 5 host , so please, someone has the solution to this problem

  Another problem is that showing time in hostd.log file is different because I have configured in Setup esxi why its different time showing.

  Tenemos una infrastructure of various host esx 3.5 gestionados por un virtualcenter 2.5 desde hace varios Años. Desde hace unos Días me da UN error cuando intento add storage para crear a datastore para lo tengo are presented as nuevo has los una cabina of 300 Gb. Para ello selecciono a LUNs esx host, voy known config pestana, a storage y al boton Add storage. Cuando en el lugar del Assistant in pincho para anadirlo, unos segundos espera obtengo el siguiente message after:

  Y is no puedo hacer mas, don't con lo than no puedo crear el nuevo datastore y lo Necesito UN ago that los current estan casi llenos. He reniciado el virtualcenter don't sin any resultado y ahora mismo no se por donde depower.

  Dick as screams datastore en el a host y luego escanear in el resto are suficiente. If son datastore diferent there you da problemas in algun don't host agent deberias reiniciar el y no ser asi el host completo.

• LUN ID Question - Adding storage

  I have a question for the LUN ID that appears in Virtual Center 2.5 when you add storage to an ESX host.  When I go in stock add and select my LUN newly created in the list, it continues to display LUN ID 0.  This isn't the logical unit number ID that matches the LUN ID in the Dell SAN.  The other LUN, first one that has been created in my storage ESX group is set to LUN ID 11, also, it does not match the LUN ID in the Dell SAN.

  The LUN ID is important at all?  Why the first created LUN LUN ID 11?  This leads me to think that maybe I should not attempts to use LUN ID 0 for anything.

  This is probably a stupid question, but I want to just make sure that there is nothing wrong with the help of LUN ID 0 for this new storage.  If I shouldn't use LUN ID 0, how VirtualCenter to allow me to change the identification number of the logic unit number?

  The ID of LUNS ESX gives your storage space and the Lun ID that gives dell storage are two separate things that are inconsistent with each other.  ESX sets its own LUN ID which are very good, we have LUN ID 0 and 1 no problem here

  The limit is 2 TB - 512Bytes

  That 512 bytes is VERY important to remember.

  You will see that 1 TB as it roles once you exceed 2 tablespoons.

  As Anton suggested you can use two 1.5 TB LUN safely. However, you can in fact more than 500 GB LUNS or such. Will the LARGEST you can is not always the most efficient allocation of resources.

• Persistent ghosts - leakage of storage files.

  Hi people,

  I worked through a somewhat worrisome question lately: If you QFile.remove () a file that MediaPlayer plays or MediaPlayer.pause () or more recently MediaPlayer.stop () would be the file is deleted, but the disk taken up by the file storage to become available - never.

  The first time I came across this, I was perplexed: the total file storage to SD card used and free storage space don't add to the capacity of the card and there is no way to recover the lost space other than formatting the drive.

  I have also confirmed that it is not a thing of file system, but can also occur on the QNX6 file on the storage of the phone system. What happens when the phone storage is filled with ghosts files? You must do a security wipe!

  There seems to be two issues here:

  1. There is an easy way to remove the placeholder for the file in the file system that is not giving up the space used. (which can lead to the need to reformat your phone/card) I guess it can be considered a storage leak.

  2. There is no obvious way deleting a file that has been recently buffered in the MediaPlayer.

  Here is the output of command line I captured when the file _wasn't_ play:

  $ ls-l

  You can see that 9625376-9572792 = 52584 k, is about the size of the file.

  If I do the same thing with a file that is at stake:

  $ ls-l
  Total 222732

  I can also confirm that this issue has been observed on the 10.0 and 10.1, 10.2.1.

  Has anyone else seen anything like this? I'd certainly appreciate advice on how to remove a file that has been recently used by the MediaPlayer.

  Here's the response of the people of file system.  Hope this helps clear things upwards!

  By POSIX behavior, content of the file must not be released until all open in the file handles are released.  If we cannot free up space (stop for example), we will reclaim the space during startup for QNX6 file system.
   
  In the FAT formats, it's different because the file system has no concepts such as the names and the POSIX inode.  Emulate us the behavior in our implementation, but the lack of security features power means that it is possible to lose this space if the media is removed or system power off with the open file handles.  You can use the mass storage mode or place the card in a BONE to fill a control and correction of the host system.

• After extending local RAID volume, additional space is not less add storage

  I have a Dell PE2900. It has 6 x 300 GB disks in a RAID5 volume.

  The other night, I added 2 extra 300 GB drives for the server, and then using OpenManage, I added these disks to the existing RAID5 volume. At the same time, I decided to convert it to a RAID6 volume. It's a converted / rebuild / not destructive process.

  It completed OK (took 2 days to get in the background).

  All of the above tasks were conducted with the ESX Server turned on and operation of the virtual computer. No problem here.

  When I look at my data stores, the is original VMFS volume 1.36 TB.

  When I go to the storage cards section and select the Dell PERC 6 / i adapter, I see 2 volumes of x. One of them is 1.63 TB LUN and the other is 278 GB.

  When I return to my data warehouses, I select the TB VMFS 1.36 and select Properties.

  In the new window, it shows (see screenshot):

  1.63 TB capacity

  Primary partitions: VMFS 1.36 TB

  If I click the button increase here, a new window pops up, but additional 278 GB DOES NOT appear here (window is empty, select No and click Next).

  If I try to add a new VMFS volume, the additional GB of 278 also appears (window is empty, select No and click Next).

  I haven't restarted the ESX Server again... downtime, I wish I had time for.

  Does anyone know of a way to make the ESX Server use the new free space on the disk?

• I have installed Firefox 12 and went to install add-onns, I added 6 may add ons, none of them appear under 'Add-ons '.

  For some reason, I can't find an answer to this anywhere.  I know that you can add more storage to a computer by changing the internal hard drive, but I'm not good with electronics and will attempt rather than.  Is it possible to attach an external hard drive to my iMac (21.5-inch, late 2009, OSX 10.11.3) and have it work as if the computer itself has more storage?  I'm not interested to move the files to the external drive to clear up space already a resident, I want the storage that is already 'the annex'.

  This capability on Macs for a long time. With your model I ecommend a power player, one who possesses its own independent power supply. They are more expensive than the models that do not have a power supply, but are much more relaible.

  Initially, I deleted all user Ghost by right click

  But after that, I started meeting with error messages about missing files (I don't remember the exact type of error messages - just error window pop up).

  Without knowing the exact error message, it is impossible to tell what is happening.

  When you delete files or folders, the recommended method goes like this:

  1. Rename the unwanted file or a folder, for example by adding the suffix ".bad".
  2. Wait a week or two.
  3. If all goes well, remove the file or folder.
  4. If you have a problem, rename the file or folder, and then look more closely.
