M620 servers, attention in newspapers, event ID 1004 IPMIDRV

I'm looking for a problem reported on two M1000E enclosures. The support function refuses to take on these servers, saying that they are affected by a caveat in the windows logs,"event ID 1004 IPMIDRV the IPMI device driver attempted to communicate with the IPMI BMC device during normal operation. However the communication failed because of a time-out. You can increase the timeouts"

The error occurs on 14 servers. It's pretty rare, from once a month to 6 times a month depending on the server.

-should I worry about this warning?

The IPMI interface acts as interface between BMC and OS; This includes the server blades in their communication. Event ID 1004 IPMIDRV implies that communication between the blades and the casing is degraded. Close the chassis and reconnect the blades and observers, if the warning persists.

  • How to use the Microsoft Event Viewer to diagnose the breakdowns of the system

    Unless manually modified Windows will log errors in Event Viewer. Information on these errors usually help determine which collapses and why it crashes. Often, they are used to diagnose if the computer shows a blue screen and you are unable to obtain information on the blue screen.

    To run the click Event Viewer on start and start typing event viewer in the search programs and files. When the Event Viewer appears in the list, select it and run the program.

    Once at the Event Viewer you need to descend to the level of the category. There are three broad categories that you want to fix the errors of. You can get to these categories by the expansion of the group Windows logs on the left side. According to newspapers in Windows, you can see Applications, security, and system. It's three groups where you want to see which crashed and why.

    To start, click on the list of applications and you will see a list of events which occurred on the right side. Events fall into three categories

    Information - low

    WARNING - Medium

    Error - high

    Information events can be ignored in general these are things just information on your system. This can be an event as a disk defragmentation has been made and has been a success.

    Warning events have an average level, because more often that otherwise, so it can be ignored and pose no immediate threat to your system.  Caution do not generally broken systems if your computer is crashing or having problems then is not likely caused by the warning events.

    The errors have a high level and if your system crashes that could be due to the error. Since we are talking about the blockages and system errors, we will focus our attention on error events.

    In the screenshot, an error has been highlighted and this is what we will discuss.

    At diagnosis of the fault of the system you must ensure that you first you know what time your system crashed so that you can make sure you are looking at the correct event log. The newspaper of the events above is just an example of an error and is not one which would be generally cause a system crash. It is only for purposes of dimenostrational.

    The error code will help you to determine why something is a failure. You can meet the followed a string of numbers such as STOP error: 0x0000007B (0xEB82784C, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).

    Today my entire cluster (about 20 MV on 3 servers) has experienced an event where after that we have rebooted one of our physical switches, all guests are locked down.

    I understand that it is the default if you have a single switch, but we have 2 switches in total redundancy.

    How are configured adapters, they are configured for the group for the console and vmkernel.

    After looking through the config, I wonder if reunification is not the right choice?  Maybe I chose single adapter with an option of auxiliary card?

  • VCS do not trust certificate - configuration of the LDAP user

    I have a cluster of 2 Telepresence VCS-control in the same network (vlan) and a bunch of 2 telepresence Expressway to same DMZ network (vlan). And both are on the same site. The two masters counterparts I managed to synchronize the servers against the ldap server (AD), but two of the slave with the same config for users/certificate/ldap settings fail. .  "DNS Uable to resolve the address of the LDAP server It seems to me that the peers do not trust the certificate.

    Newspapers that you attached are newspapers events and diagnostic logs not VCS. However according to these newspapers, it seems that VCS slave is not able to connect to the ldap server. If DNS resolution is probably ongoing, but the tcp/tls connection is not established.

    I recommend to make a journal of diagnosis (Maintenance > Diagnostics > diagnostic logging) everything by reproducing the connection failed to see what part of the connection fails.

    If you root for VCS slave access you may also connect as root via ssh and then run the following command:

    > tcpdump-port tcp s0

    Insert the port you use to connect to ldap in the field and then press ENTER. you will now see all the traffic to and from the port. Do you see some resets? Is traffic in one direction? This will help you understand why failure is implemented.

    Defragmenting drive C not completed. I get a message that says: some files may not be defragment?

    Some files?  What is 'some files?

    That could be, but if you want to know what's happening, you must provide additional information.

    Some Windows files that are 'used' cannot be defragmented after that XP starts (as the hiberfil.sys pagefile.sys, file registry, etc), so you must defragment these files before XP ends to load up.

    Get PageDefrag and other tools, videos, and comments by Mark Russinovich, the master of Windows troubleshooting here:

    Page Defrag will add an entry to the registry to run Defragmenter page during the next reboot.  The registry entry is automatically deleted after the system restarts.

    These files and other system will be defragmented at the next reboot.

    Please provide additional information on your system:

    What is your system brand and model?

    What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

    The defragmentation report lists files that cannot be defragmented - is that what you are talking about and what are the names of the files?

    You can save the report to your desktop as a text file and then copy / paste the contents here.

    If you run low the Windows Defragmenter disk space may have difficulty defragmenting your hard drive.  XP needs of 15% of the total capacity of the hard drive to run properly (you will get an information message if you do not have enough space).

    The XP Defragmenter cannot defragment the files that are in use (such as the registry, newspapers, events, pagefile.sys files, etc.), so they can appear as fragmented in the defragmentation report files.  These files need to be defragmented before XP load completely and starts to use these files.

    On a healthy system, it is certainly possible to have zero files fragmented (according the XP report) using PageDefrag.  This does not always mean that you will suddenly see more free space on your HARD drive, so don't let your expectations go beyond the reality when you get to zero the defragmented files and have still not run out of space.

  • Windows live mail will not receive or send an email - ID error 0x800CCC0D

    OS Vista Basic by using windows live mail 2009. This problem just started this afternoon. Everytime I open my windows live mail, it appears. I have not changed the servers. The only event that happened recently was that Adobe Flash Player update. That's all. I can't send or receive messages from my windows live mail.

  • How can I configure this behavior of a field?

    After the last patchday (last week) I can't watch videos. If I watch a flash video or a video with Windows Media Player, after a short period (1 to 5 min) Windows shuts itself. When I start Windows again, it does not open a crash report.
    I reinstalled my video card drivers and - because I thought installation may be broken - Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 and 2008 (redistr.).

    But nothing helped.

    Sometimes I can watch Flash videos all night and then all of a sudden Windows stops.

    Temperature is ok, coolers all run.

    a. power by clicking on the Start button, open the Options click on the Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Power Options.
    b. in the select a power plan page, click on change settings for the plan under the selected plan.
    c. on the parameters of change in the plan page, click on change advanced power settings.
    d. on the Advanced Settings tab, expand lid and buttons power, expand power for the start menu button and then do one of the following:

    If you use a laptop, click on battery or plugged in (or both), click the arrow and then click sleep, Hibernate, or Shut Down.

  • Being trained by Cisco NAC nuts! Help!

    Hi all

    Getting desperate here... been trying to get the solution NAC Cisco (Cisco NAC 3310) to work, but with limited success, and the results are currently desperately randomly. I have a lot of experience with Cisco product and so far this has been the most painful :-( Here, any help would be appreciated gladly!

    OK, here's the Setup: the cam and CASES are configured in mode OOB VG (Layer 2). I install everything by following the guide from Cisco (I hope) - different VLAN for the CASE, the cam and VLAN mapping, managed subnets, etc. to switch profiles configured. Yet, I get strange answers: some PCs are unable to connect to the network, even if successfully managed switch port informs the cam a new MAC is detected (varies the switch port to the vlan auth of vlan initial). I have accumulated my brain trying to figure out what's wrong, newspapers event does not indicate a lot of problems. Just to check on some uncertainties:

    1. for the managed subnet IP, should I check the box "Enable subnet based Vlan change?"

    2. for the subnet managed, if I put the IP address of subnet managed as the IP of the gateway? E.g. 110 VLAN (vlan not reliable) mapped to 10 VLANS (VLAN trust) which is the 10.1.10.0/24 subnet. The gateway is 10.1.10.254. So should I configure managed subnet IP/netmask as 10.1.10.254/255.255.255.0? Or choose another unused IP address from that subnet (for example 10.1.10.1)?

    3. I am also the experience of the situation where to connect with success (pass the verification of the NAC etc.), I unplugged my laptop on the port managed switch and after a while connected. This time no authentication happens, but the network connectivity is broken (even if the Cisco Agent is running). Seems that the network port is placed in the VLAN Auth, yet nothing is invited to open a session. Any ideas?

    What policies do they install on your current user roles?

    You can try allowing all TCP/UDP and fragments to see if not connect at all times.

    Right-click on the agent access as well and select Properties. Make sure that there not a host of discovery, since it is an implementation of L2

  • Authenticate endpoint via AD

    We implement a Win 2 k 8 AD Server. X 7 scheme is being implemented and the VCS has joined the domain.

    I followed the instructions of the Cisco_VCS_Authenticating_Devices_Deployment_Guide_X7 - 1.pdf

    VCSConfiguration--> record--> Configuration--> = directory Restriction policy

    VCSConfiguration-->--> devices--> Configuration--> Database Type = LDAP authentication

    VCSConfiguration-->--> devices--> Configuration--> = Auto NTLM authentication

    Please configure the restriction policy to 'None', 'AllowList' or "DenyList", according to your needs, I believe that the parameter 'Directory' is planned for future use for deployments using the internal directory of the VCS Services feature.

    If you want to authenticate registration of endpoints regular, appearing the default subfield (and other relevant sub-areas) "Check powers", this means that endpoints trying to save this VCS would get challenged for credentials.

    Once you have done this, you will need to configure your point of termination with credentials match those in the ad.

    Now, if you have problems registering endpoints, you should be able to find log entries relevant to these attempts failed registration in the event on the VCS log via status > newspapers > event log.

    If you need more detailed logs to resolve this, you can go to maintenance > Diagnostics > diagnostic logging, define the network log level to DEBUG and launch the journal.

    When the paper is running, try to register an endpoint and when this does not work, stop the log and download it. The journal will show you the attempt of registration as well as VCS communication with the LDAP server, and that should tell you more in detail why registration / authentication fails.

    If you are not able to solve the problem using these logs, I recommend that you get a TAC case open for additional troubleshooting.
