M6348 Firmware Password

Hello, I've updated the firmware on my switch M6348 following the "modernization PowerConnect password 2.x.x.x or 5.x.x.x 3.x.x.x or 4.x.x.x to 5.1.10.1 Firmware Version" guide. However once it reboots I am more able to connect to the switch with any combination of username and passwords. I tried to connect via telnet and who does not. I followed the directions exactly.

I'm hoping to avoid having to connect to the console I am 700 miles from the switch.

Please notify.

Thank you!

Too bad, I thought of it.

I have SSHd in CMC, then used the switch-1 connect command. I provided the enable password and was then able to use the user name command to configure an admin user.

... so, how can I know if the firmware password has been installing?

    Thank you

Just hold down the ALT key while the MacBook is turned on and see if the computer will display all available startup disks or it contains a password box. If she asks you a password, a password of the firmware is set up, so ask the seller to disable.

Apart from this, I advise you to get the MacBook Pro with a new installation of OS X. If you can, tell the owner follow these steps-> what to do before you sell or give away your Mac - Apple Support otherwise, if I were you I would not buy it.

    Characters of legal Firmware Password

What are the legal characters to use the password of the firmware for a mac.

I read alphanumeric are accepted and that of other characters may cause a problem, but this seems silly.

What characters are allowed as & or $ or %, etc.

Cannot seem to find something which is an authority on this, but I always prefer to use random passwords with a variety of character types.

  • Keychain, iCloud + problems of Photos on MBPro since changed password and password set firmware

    Hello

I recently changed the password for the connection on my main account on my MBPro and added a firmware password, but that doesn't seem to work properly: whenever I reboot Keychain keeps asking me to access the local keychain and all iCloud apps are disabled. I also have problems with pictures. FYI my boot HD is encrypted with FileVault.

I put details on the issues below, as well as what I tried so far (based on the collected suggestions from these forums) as well as some newspapers Console elements that seem strange.

I don't know how to proceed at this point that some options might make things worse if not done does not correctly (or in the right sequence). I'm tempted to disable Firmware password, go back to the old password, or turn off FileVault to see if the problems goes, but I'm afraid it might make things worse (and I would like to have these features runs later). I also have the opportunity to reinstall the OS and return to a previous TimeMachine upward.

I would appreciate anyone's help on this one.

    Thank you very much.

    Mac OS X 10.11.16 (15-1004)

FileVault is running on the boot disk (SSD).

    Firmware password has been set.

I have a Time Machine backup (on a second external hard drive).

I installed a functional copy of Mac OS X on an external hard drive 3.

I do not use iCloud keychain.

I have another admin account that works.

    Problems:

    (1) Keychain: whenever I start the CommCenter ask the session keyring password (I must then enter the previous admin password).

I wonder then if I want to update the local keyring: to do this I have to enter my new login password in the "current password" and then I type the same new password fields. Once I reboot the problem reappears: exactly the same sequence, as if the information could not stick. Might have something to do with the FileVault and Firmware password.

    (2) iCloud: after having rebooted and enter my passwords from keychain as described above, none of the iCloud applications work (email, Messages, Contacts, calendars, reminders, Notes, find my Mac, iCloud drive, etc.).

He tells me tells me he is not able to connect to iCloud and asked me to try to do it in the preferences panel. When I tried to connect there, he couldn't connect to iCloud and told to try again later.

    (3) photos: at the launch of Photos he says he cannot open the library system and propose to choose a. When I choose the right pair, it opens fine, but a ton of photos are most referenced correctly. All images come my an external HD (the iPhoto library is also on the same HD), and nothing has changed in the structure of folders.

What I tried (after the Time Machine).

    1. I installed Mac OS was last updated.

2 - I activated the guest account and tried to connect: it only works Safari.

    3. I logged in using another admin account: no problem with Keychain and all iCloud apps work. Not tried Photo since this account is not a library and is not configured for access to the main account.

    4. I tried to boot into safe mode: is not work (might have something to do with the password FileVault and Firmware).

5-return to the main account I ran disk help and fixed permissions: discs seem to be ok.

    6. in the key string App I locked and unlocked keychain using the lock in the upper left corner of the application. When asked for my password I just typed my user password. When I rebooted I had the same problems.

    7. I've tried updated the password in the keychain app by entering the old password and then my new password for connection in the other two fields (new password and confirm). Still problems with iCloud and after restart I have the same problems of Keychain.

8 - I tried resetting my default keychain: I got an error, because I don't have the permission to do so.

9 - I tried to create a new keychain session and making it the default keychain, but I keep getting the same problems (iCloud does work does not + issues of password even after I reload).

10 - iCloud: I tried to close the session from iCloud, then enter my iCloud ID and password, but it says no more: it cannot connect or that the Mac is already connected to this account. I closed the session again, iCloud used Safari to manage my AppleID (https://appleid.apple.com/), listed devices associated with and my MacBook off the list: I always have the same questions even after reboot. I even tried to delete the iCloud account since the Internet Accounts preferences panel, but it is not listed. I tried to add it, but he said that the Mac is already connected.

    11. in Terminal, I glued the special order in some discussions (find ~ $TMPDIR..------(-+ flags sappnd, uappnd, schg, uchg o! - user $UID o! - perm - 600-) 2 > & -| wc-l | pbcopy) and got 21 to 22, and a result the first time earlier.

12 - looking at logs just console after reboot, I see a couple of things that seem odd that appear multiple times with slight variations (I paste only an example):

  • I need my password firmware upgrade to el capitan

Several years ago, I added a password for the firmware as a way to prevent attacks of firewire on my filevault but it was several years ago, and I have no idea what it was. Will it take this password to update my OS or just my admin password?

You must disable the Firmware password using the same version of operating system used when it was created. Don't forget to turn off FileVault. You don't need the Firmware password if it is no longer necessary. However, if it is still in use then you cannot pass unless you know the password. However, it seems as if the password is no longer active or in use, so it does not interfere with the upgrade.

Before purchasing a used computer, you must have run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, whichever is applicable.

The first thing to do after the acquisition of the computer is to wipe the internal drive and install a new copy of Mac OS X. You - not the original owner, must do. Changes made by Apple over the years have made this very complex seemingly simple task.

How would you do it depends on the model, and if you already have another Mac. If you are not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then, find the model on this page to see which version of the OS was initially installed.

It is dangerous and may be illegal to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.

    1. If you do not have another Mac

    a. If the machine comes with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a Snow Leopard install disc (OS X 10.6) retail boxed and "Shrink Wrap" on the Apple Store or a reputable dealer - no eBay or something of the sort. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you need to add in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory can take, according to the technical specifications.

    (b) if the machine comes with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that accompanies it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received the media of the original owner, but if you do not, order replacements from Apple. A disc at retail, or the gray discs of another model, will not work.

To start from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, and then restart the computer and hold the C key to start ringing. Release the button when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.

    c. If the machine comes with OS X 10.7 or later version, you don't need media. It should start in the mode of Recovery of the Internet when you hold down the key combination option-command-R to start ringing. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe. Note that Mac Pro models turn over end of 2014 (with the box of "cheese grater") cannot use Internet recovery, regardless of what version of OS they shipped with. The Mac Pro round (2014 or later) can use it.

    d. some models 2010-2011 comes with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, allowing them to use Internet recovery. If you have one of these models, you cannot reinstall 10.6 even from the original media, and recovery of the Internet won't work either without Apple ID of the original owner, in this case, contact Apple technical supportor take the machine to an Apple Retail Store or other authorized service provider to have an operating system installed.

    2. If you do not have another Mac

If you already have another Mac which has been upgraded in the App Store to the version of Mac OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use the recovery disk wizard to prepare a USB device, and then starts the new Mac of it by pressing the C key to start ringing. Alternatively, if you have a backup of OS X Time Machine 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a time Capsule or other network device), you can start by holding down the option key and clicking in the row of icons that is displayed. Note that if your other Mac has never updated in the App Store, you can not use this method.

3 partition and install OS X

a: If you see a lock screen trying to boot from the support installation or recovery mode, then a firmware password has been defined by the previous owner, or the machine was locked remotely via iCloud. You will need to either contact the owner or by the machine to an Apple Retail Store or other provider of service to be unlocked. May asked you proof of ownership.

    b. launch disk utility, and then select the internal drive icon - no volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a partition table GUID with the volume of data in Mac OS extended (journaled) format. This permanently deletes all existing data on the disk.

    c. an unusual problem can occur if all the following conditions apply:

OS X 10.7 or later version has been installed by the previous owner

The boot volume has been encrypted with FileVault

You start in recovery mode (that is, not of a 10.6 disk installation)

In this case, you will not be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for advice or see this discussion of the CSA.

    d. after partitioning, quit disk utility and run the OS X Installer. If you install a version of OS X was acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password you used. When the installation is complete, the system reboots automatically in the Migration Wizard, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have all the data to be transferred, it is usually the best time to do it.

    e. run the software update and install all available Apple system updates. To upgrade to a major version of Mac OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can not keep an improved version that was installed by the first owner. He or she cannot legally transfer to you, and without the Apple ID, you will be able to update in a software update or reinstall, if it becomes necessary. Is the same for all App Store products that the previous owner installed, you will need to buy.

    4. other issues

    a. If the original owner "accepted" bundled iLife (iPhoto, iMovie and Garage Band) applications in the App Store so that he or she could put up-to-date, IRREVOCABLY linked to that Apple ID and you can download them without having to buy them. Reportedly, the Mac App Store Customer Service sometimes issued codes of reimbursement for these applications to second owners who asked.

    (b) if the previous owner has not Deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you will not be able to authorize immediately under your username. In this case, you will have either to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.

    c. When you try to create a new iCloud account, you could get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a limit of life of three configurations by device iCloud account. Erasure of the unit does not reset the limit. You can always use iCloud account that was created on another device, but you will not be able to create a new. Contact iCloud Support for more information. Configuration limit does not apply to the Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as iTunes and Mac App Store or iMessage. You can create as many accounts you want.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It is unlikely to solve your problem. Don't be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The test is intended to determine if the problem is caused by a third-party software that loads automatically at startup or logon, by a device, by a police conflict or corruption of system files or some system caches.

Disconnect all devices wired except those required to test and remove all the expansion cards from secondary market, as appropriate. Start in safe mode and log on to the account of the problem.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or an earlier version, or if a firmware password is defined, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can not do this. Ask for additional instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run as normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things work at all, including an audio output and a Wi - Fi connection on some models. The next normal boot can also be a bit slow.

The login screen is displayed even if you usually connect automatically. You need your password to log on. If you have forgotten the password, you will have to reset it before you begin.

Test in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and make sure you always have the problem. View the results of the test.

  • Is no longer, I can sync my Mac with iPhone for Messages.

I used to be able to receive my iMessages from my phone on my Mac.  I've updated to El Capitan, shortly after it was released, and this error started over a month.  I have more "Text Message Forwarding" option listed on my iPhone.   When I try to sign on the Message on my Mac, I get the "year error occurred during activation."  Try again. '  I've updated all my devices to the current versions. In the Messages, it shows my account as "inactive."  I have disconnected all my devices, changed my password, signed back in and still nothing.  Can anyone help?

This could be a difficult problem to solve, as there are several possible causes for this. Please test after taking each of the steps that you have not already tried it. Back up all data before making any changes.

Before proceeding, test on another network, if possible. This could be a Wi - Fi access point public, if your computer is portable, or a cellular network, if you have a mobile device that can share its Internet connection. If you find that iMessage works on the other network, the problem is in your network or your ISP, not in your computer.

    Step 1

Check the statusof the service. If the service is stopped, wait until he comes back upward. There may be a power outage, localized, even if the indicator is green.

    Step 2

    In the menu bar, select

     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Date & time zone ▹

The nearest town from there where you are should be selected on the map.

    Step 3

Disconnect you iMessage and FaceTime on all your Apple devices. Sign out and then sign back in. Try to connect again.

    Step 4

Restart your router and your device at wide band, if they are separated. You may skip this step if you don't control these devices.

    Step 5

Follow these instructions to view the serial number of the machine. If the number is missing or invalid according to the web form, take the machine to an Apple Store or another service center authorized to correct the problem.

    Step 6

The measures suggested in this support article. If you do not understand some of the steps or leads them not, ask for advice. Note in particular that the email address associated to your identifier Apple should be checked. If the address is in the field obsolete mac.com, you will have to change.

    Step 7

    In the menu bar, select

     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network

If the preferences window is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Click the Advanced button, and then select the Proxies tab. If the SOCKS Proxy box is checked, uncheck it. You don't need to change other parameters in the window. Click OK, and then apply. Test.

The result may be that you can not connect to Internet at all. Cancel the change, if any, or if iMessage still does not work. Remember that you must apply changes made in the preferences window to take effect.

    Step 8

    Select in the menu bar

     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Flash Player ▹ storage

    and click on

Block all sites to store information on this computer

    Close the preferences window.

    Step 9

Make sure that you know the ID and the password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to find and remove all items containing "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name. Sign out and then sign back in.

    Step 10

Select connections comments * and log in as a guest. Do not use the Safari connection only 'user comments' created by 'find my Mac '.

While signed in as a guest, you won't have access to your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you use them for the first time. Don't worry about that; It's normal. If you need any password or other personal information in order to complete the test, save, print, or write them before you start.

Test while signed in as a guest. After testing, log on to the guest account and in your own account, disable it if you wish. The files that you created in the guest account will be automatically deleted when you log out of it.

    * Note: If you have enabled 'find my Mac' or FileVault, then you cannot activate the guest account. The login 'User comments' created by 'Find my Mac' is not the same. Create an account to test and delete it, including his home folder, after testing.

If iMessage worked in the guest account, stop here and post your results.

    Step 11

Start in safe mode and log on to the account of the problem.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or an earlier version, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion drive or a software RAID, you can not do this. Ask for additional instructions.

  • Can't no more connection to Messages or FaceTime on MacMini

I have been using my account Messages on an iPhone, iPad Mini Mac Pro and mid-2011. Recently, I think that after the update to El Capitan, Messages & FaceTime has stopped working on the Mac Mini, but still works very well on both devices.

There is an old rule here of people with the same problem, largely unresolved: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5510570

I tried everything suggested in this thread without result. This same identifier Apple works fine on this computer, in iTunes, App Store, iCloud, it just stopped working in the Messages or FaceTime. I try to open a session the same ID that works successfully on the iPhone and iPad, but on the Mini, he says "could not sign an iMessage. An error occurred during activation. Try again. »

    I'm under 10.11.6.

I am surprised to see that this has been a problem for so long, judging by this thread how much time is spent... Very frustrating.

    Step 1

Check the status of the service.

  • After the upgrade to 10.11.6, mDNSResponder runs havoc

    Hello

After the el Capitan to 10.11.6, upgrade my internet connection has been blocked by my ISP because of a flood of packets to multicast from my side.

I studied using the monitor activity and found that mDNSResponder creates the network traffic with more than 20 MB per minute, and I see also all the lights on my network switches will blink quickly. The problem disappears if I manually kill the process; then it automatically restarts and creates only a few KB per min.

It is two machines, an iMac and a Powerbook from 2015. Nothing else was changed other than the upgrade.

    So obviously something is wrong.

    Thanks for the resolution!

    W.

Please read this message before doing anything.
