I inherited a HP m9500f desktop computer and want to upgrade the processor. It seems the AMD Phenom II 965 is supported after a BIOS updated to version 5.13 x 4, and I wonder if it's really the limit for this mobo or if Pheonom II 4 970, 975 or 980 x processors will work. I'd be happy to hear about any experience - that someone has had or knows with Phenom II x 4 970-980 processors.
Thanks in advance!

iMac 27 "mid-2011 - Intermittent problem with CPU fan running at full speed and sleep mode.
Hello!
My iMac 27 "has an intermittent problem with the CPU fan runs at full speed. Sometimes it happens at the time when I start it, sometimes only in my session, and sometimes only after a certain time. So does seem to be a problem of "heating".
Second issue is with the mode 'sleep'. It may occur also at any time, at the start of the iMac, session, or after a certain time. But once he starts to go in mode 'sleep', when I wake up, it goes right back in mode after a few seconds and that it will continue indefinitely until I restart the computer.
What could be?
Please help me!

Safari uses excessive CPU after upgrade to Sierra on Macbook Pro
Hello
After the upgrade to Sierra, I noticed that Safari uses a lot of CPU, causing the fans to be very strong. I tried almost everything that I could find on this issue, including using Firefox, but nothing has changed. Do I really need to reinstall everything?
After digging deeper, I found a solution. It was Trusteer report I had installed for safer online banking. This is the thread that helped meSafari 10 high CPU usage

kernel_task runaway (from 300 to 600%) CPU with 2 external displays
I have a MacBook Pro (retina, mid-2012), and for a year and a half, I've had episodes fighter during the kernel_task suddenly begin to consume all processor CPU (from 300 to 600%), is the response of the system so slow it is impossible to use. I experience these episodes throughout the front 1-2 years that the machine went from Yosemite El Capitan and now Sierra.
Normally, I use my MacBook with two external displays, both at work and at home. At work, I have two external screens of Lenovo, and at home, I have two screens Apple (Apple Cinema Display 27-inch and 27-inch Apple Thunderbolt Display). I discovered that this kernel_task high CPU usage can only be stopped by disconnecting one of the external screens. After unplugging an external display, the kernel_task subsides immediately to normal (< 5%). After a few minutes, I can reconnect the 2nd external screen and proceed normally (sometimes for days, sometimes for hours, sometimes for a few minutes) until the kernel_task pulls up to 300-600% again. The use of the high CPU kernel_task never happens unless I have two external displays connected.
Note that since I upgraded to MacOS Sierra fugue kernel_task CPU frequency has increased considerably: of 1 kernel_task runaway every several days to a runaway almost every 10 minutes or so. I don't have a reason this frequency has increased, but the runaway condition seems to have worsened by the fact that the photoanalysisd daemon is running like crazy on my grand (72 000) library of Photos.
Also note that I started in recovery mode and have re-installed MacOS Sierra, and it has no effect on the runaway kernel_task.
Any ideas on how to fix this resumption of kernel_task of all my CPU?
I have attached my EtreCheck system report below. This report was captured with two attached external displays. At halfway while generating a report, the kicks and started kernel_task hogging CPU again.

Problem: Computer is too slow
Description:
Sometimes, while working with my MacBook connected to two external displays, the kernel_task pulls up to 600 to 800% CPU and stays there until I unplug at least one of the external screens. After disconnecting, the kernal_task subsides immediately to normal (< 5%). After a few minutes, I can plug the 2nd external screen and proceed normally (sometimes for days, sometimes for hours, sometimes for a few minutes) until the kernel_task pulls up to 600 to 800% again. The use of the high CPU kernel_task never happens unless I have two external displays connected.

I have a maxed out end 2013 the MacBook Pro Core i7 to 2.6 GHz, 16 GB of DDR3 RAM, 1 TB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750 M 2048 MB, Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB.
Also, I have a DELL P2415Q Display 24 inches (3840 x 2160) using Thunderbolt, are involved through the headphone jack and use a USB for lightning to recharge my iPhone.
I upgraded to macOS Sierra the day he is released and had no problems until this morning. I unplugged my external screen and speakers and used my laptop for about 15 minutes, the battery, and then returned to my office and plugged my Thunderbolt, rear speakers display in and my CPU shot at 100% and never came back down. My Mac is essentially useless because kernel_task is eating all my CPU and to prevent another asks to enter the CPU.
I have since audited equipment - everything was fine, reset the NVRAM and I tried to erase IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext .plist files but I couldn't on my Mac (trying to follow this guide, started in Safe Mode and everything then went to try and find the file and my Mac just does not have it). When my external screen is plugged if I'm doing anything CPU intensive (videophone, opening of Chrome, etc.) then my kernel_task gets mad again, and the only way to move is to unplug my screen. Connect my iPhone to charge the tips also my kernel_task as well. I followed my internal temperatures, and nothing was out of the ordinary, to cold currently at about 140 °.
At this point, it seems that any time that puts something on the charging system and increase the temperature internal internal components of my Mac kernel_task maxes my CPU, which brings my Mac to its knees.
Any ideas how to fix? Is this just a major bug in 10.12?
Hi, Trent L.
Try this - problems with macOS Sierra? This fix can help you.

CPU usage and Mail Web Content
I had a problem with macOS Sierra and Safari 10 where the CPU load for any tab was about 140% and the spinning fans, this was resolved by disabling Trusteer report. However, I still have a running process 'Mail content Web' running at 199% and fans of loading up every so often. Is this normal (seems a bit high) or is there something else I should disable/enable?
Thank you
Hello danielfromfareham!
Welcome to the communities of Apple Support! Your question about your fans to vives after upgrading to Mac OS Sierra is greatly appreciated. I know that if my Mac to run loudly after the upgrade, I'd be worried too. It is my pleasure to help in any way I can today.
When running in issues of fan, you want to first try a SMC reset. I have an article that will guide you through the steps:
Reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac.

Various system processes lead alienated CPU
I don't know where to begin - several rotating system process drive my CPU alienated to the point where my 2014 rMBP lasts maybe 3 hours off the charger and maintains high fans.
The processes include:
- Google Chrome help
- CalendarAgent
- CalNCService
- PhotoAnalysis
- Process associated with Sophos (this is a commercial application of the antivirus that I need to have on my computer by work/school)
Things, I tried, without permanent success:
- Reset my keychain - what causes a detective of other problems leading to -.
- Restore my computer from a time Machine to the top
- Remove all 3 Google calendars I've linked
- Removal of caches
Ideas? I'm a student, so he is facing the embarrassment of fans screaming out of control... or my wrists while in the middle of burning class. I just noticed that running my MBP with an external screen made it to calm down but the process still zip to the top intermittently.
Crazy to believe, but the deactivation of reminders iCloud did the trick...

What are the symptoms you experience that lead you to believe that there are problems with the CPU and the RAM (or is it storage?)?

I have an iMac end of 2012, and lately he worked very slowly. A few days ago, I checked the activity monitor to see "Installer" take a lot of CPU. I leave and rejected it as an error, but sometimes it starts to do it again. I just kept smoking them until I found several installers taking up half of the space of the CPU. I did some research and I read that the Genio virus, but there is no house icon in the upper right corner and I just can't find any files for it.
Can download some adware or malware. A simple, fast and safe way to remove adware and malicious software is to download and to use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac. There has been developed by one of the most respected contributors and the top of the page in these forums and recommended by almost all of the top contributors here.
If you prefer to do it manually, follow these instructions in the site theSafeMac.com (author of Malwarebytes): adware removal Guide
If you want to check to see what adware/malware, you may have before you run Malwarebytes and then download and run Etrecheck. Copy and paste the results in your response. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that has been developed by one of the most respected users here (and recommended by Apple Support personnel) of the CSA to provide an overview of the system and help identify the most obvious culprits that can adversely affect the performance of a Mac.

lprpmd hogging CPU after upgrade of Sierra
Hi all
Since the upgrade my MBP to Sierra, I noticed there is a process called lprpmd that is constantly consuming more than 90% CPU. It has not been done before, and that means that whenever I start something else, the fan kick in and disturb the rest... No idea why this is happening and how to fix it? (I rebooted, but no difference).
See you soon,.
Gary
I upgraded my MacBook Pro retina 2015 to Sierra. Now it drains the battery three times faster and gets really hot.
I found in "activity monitor" that a process called lprpmd consumes 99% CPU. Kill the battery consumption returns normal.
When I restart the Mac, the lprpmd process will live again and it drains the battery. Any info on lprpmd? 18:09:16 -
Hello
What is the process/usr/libexec/logd? It consumes a high percentage of CPU:
After 4 hours of high processor, I restarted my laptop and now the process uses more high percentage of cpu. I guess it's a bug in MacOs Sierra
-
I installed macOS Sierra today on my and ever since then, my computer (even after several reboots) was overheating and slow. Looking at activity monitor, the "GPSOverWiFi" process remains constantly close to, or above, 100% of the CPU. I guess this is the culprit because it is the only process taking more than 10-15% of the CPU. There are only 380 KB of memory, and no other process uses unusually large amounts of memory.
I tried to quit smoking by Force, but it just comes back.
I tried to disable location Services and WiFi, but doesn't seem to affect this process.
Any other suggestions?
I don't see this loading process at all. Are you sure that it is a process of Apple? It might be some third party who is not compatible with Mac OS software.
Something that starts like that may be in your/Library/LaunchAgents and/Library/LaunchDaemons and ~/Library/LaunchAgents files. It would be a file plist with domain reverse naming scheme.
If you select the process, click on the Info button, button open files and folders, you can see something that points to a location in the source program.

I installed Sierra on my Macbook Pro 13 "2015 today and had a problem where the process of"photoanalysisd"ran all the time. I used between 120-150% of the CPU. When I force quit, he came right away. After a few hours, I went back to el Capitan. If there are others out there who have had the same experience and a possible solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I think the "photoanalysisd" process of facial recognition / scene on your photo library. I've seen this as well as a few other processes using higher than normal amounts of CPU. A few hours later, everything is back to normal once all the new features have done their thing. Depending on how many files, the speed of your system (CPU and storage read/write), and all what you use, this background process will end eventually. It took a few hours for me to see that I had the minimal use of the processor idling. I hope this helps.

CPU of my MacBook Pro at 100% even when 2015 no apps running
Hello
My recently purchased (2.8 GHz Intel Core i7) MacBook Pro has its fan constantly running when, even with no applications running.
Check activity monitor, I see 'System' is a few percentage points, usually 2% or less, while "User" is typically 98%! Idle is 0.00%, and the CPU load graph is a sea of blue, has made the fallen on the roof.
What is going on? Could I have a piece of malware or a virus running in the background? I fear that some ransomware is currently working on my entire hard drive encryption.
Any advice on how to address this ASAP are greatly appreciated!
At the top of the activity monitor screen, select: all processes instead of my process. What shows there?
