Mac OS Apple Watch Sierra unlock

Hello

I have a Macbook Pro 15 "end in 2014, I installed Sierra tonight to try out the new"unlock"feature.

The release mechanism works 1/10, most of the time when I open the lid, it should be like a good second and then, he invites the normal place to enter the password. It is as my macbook seeks the Apple Watch but couldn't find it and asking for a password after the attempt.

2 authentication is enabled, checked it on my macbook in middle on and my watch has a code to access and watch OS 3.

Is there a way to fix this? I really want to use this feature...

Thanks in advance.

Brent

  • Unlock Mac with Apple Watch stopped working

I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Sierra and my Apple Watch shows OS 3 - for a period of time the new feature release of my Mac with Apple Watch worked very well

He stopped and the option no longer appears in Settings/Security and confidentiality on the Mac - I suspect its because I had to change the password on my Apple ID - I think that if I could the closing of the session of this identifier on the watch and log back on it would start working again - but I don't see a way to check out of a Apple ID on the watch or the watch app on the iPhone (7plus)

I guess I have unfair and then re pair the watch with the phone but that seems a little drastic, so do it before, I thought that I would like to ask a question to the community in the case where someone knows a way to check out of your Apple ID on the watch I don't know - I tried searchingGoogle but cannot find anything on this topic

This seems to be fixed by my achievement and my Apple Watch with my iPhone repair - of course I don't know if it will happen again - I suspect (and its only that) is the problem has been caused by my change the password on my Apple ID - but when I went to watch outstanding I was asked for my password Apple ID and he accepted the new password

I am running Sierra on a MacBook Pro 15 "retina early 2013

I have the first edition of Apple Watch, running Watch OS3 and iPhone iOS running 6-10.

Everything is OK, except that I don't have the option to activate Mac unlock with watch in security settings

I disconnected (e) turned iCloud on all devices, turned to two factors, turn it on again, reconnected, rebooted devices. Plus a lot of combinations of these, but still no joy.

Could someone help me before I call support?

It's the requirement: mid-2013, or more recent Mac using macOS Sierra. See automatically unlocks your Mac with your Apple Watch - Apple Support.

  • Apple Watch unlock Mac Setup Frustration

I own a first generation of Apple Watch and an end 2013 13 "MacBook Pro and last mac mini (i5). I went through the entire setup process to have my watch unlock my MacBook several times. (All along the) When I get to choose the button "Allow your Apple Watch unlock your Mac", it runs for awhile and then I get the "unable to contact Apple Watch" fast. It seems to be my watch because if I try and let the Apple Watch locked, she'll tell me to unlock, and then try again. Happens on MacBook Pro and mac mini in the same way.

I tried to research on this problem and we tried all authentication reset to two factors for an agreement again all settings and turn it on again.

    Hello pgirardi,

I appreciate that you try to unlock your two computers using your Apple Watch with watch OS 3.  The resources below provide the steps and requirements to do this.  I would just try it with a single computer until you have a job before trying the second computer.

Automatically unlock your Mac with your Apple Watch

The first time you open a session after you turn on or restart your Mac, connect by entering your password manually. After that, Apple Watch connects to you.

    Set up automatic unlock

Make sure your Apple Watch uses watch OS 3, and your Mac to mid-2013 or newer model uses macOS Sierra.
For more information, see system requirements of continuity.

    Automatic unlocking

Automatic unlock works with these devices and operating systems:

    watchOS 3 macOS Sierra
    • Apple Watch (1st generation)
    • Apple Watch series 1
    • Apple Watch series 2

    • MacBook (early 2015 or newer)
    • MacBook Pro (late 2013 or newer)
    • MacBook Air (mid-2013 or newer)
    • Mac mini (late 2014 or newer)
    • iMac (late 2013 or newer)
    • Mac Pro (end of 2013 or later)

Make sure your Apple ID to use instead of the two-step verification two factor authentication. Learn more.

Make sure that your devices are configured as follows:

    • Your Mac has Bluetooth and Wi - Fi enabled.
    • Your Mac and Apple Watch are connected to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
On your Mac, choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, and then click iCloud.
On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, then go to general > Apple ID.
    • Your Apple Watch uses a password.
On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, then type the access code.
    • Your Mac has "allow your Apple Watch unlock your Mac" selected in Security & Privacy preferences.
Choose the Apple menu > System Preferences, click on Privacy & Security, then select the general tab.

pgirardi, if you are unable to unlock your main computer after trying these steps, then you will need to cancel the match your iPhone and Apple Watch and try again.

Cancel the match your iPhone and Apple Watch

    Take care.

  • Apple Watch unlock Mac does not

I have a first generation of Apple Watch and a spring 2015 MacBook Pro, which I just installed Sierra. When I tried to enable to release the Mac with Apple Watch he didn't even after a number of tests, but eventually he agreed.

Now, however, I believe that if I leave my MacBook for a few minutes and come back, it will say that the Apple Watch unlocks the Mac, the small waiting wheel goes around and around, but after maybe 8 or 9 seconds it drops just go back to the password entry screen. The net result is a considerable delay to return on the MacBook. After this happened a few times, I have disabled unlocking with the Apple Watch in the preferences.

Any ideas why this happens? Normally, my iPhone is also nearby and the watch is associated with it - does make a difference?

Do you have any Bluetooth device that is connected to your Mac? I had the same problems with the feature to unlock, then I noticed that the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar show he was matched (three points through the center of the symbol) even if I had nothing paired with my laptop. I open Bluetooth preferences and delete the two devices which are listed and which had been previously connected, but were not currently connected. After the removal of these items, the Bluetooth symbol returns to its normal look unpaired, and the release device started working 100%.

I then tried to experiment a little. First of all, I have associated my Bose speakers. 100% failure, required my password every time. Then, I have not matched the speaker and paired with an Apple Magic mouse. This gave rise to a rate of 50% of failure but still worked when I clicked on cancel, then tried recording in. I have not tried any other devices or multiple as a mouse and a keyboard.

  • Unlock Mac Pro with Apple Watch

I just downloaded the new OS of Sierra and have the newest OS on my iPhone and watch.  I tried to set up to where I can unlock my Mac with my watch, but can't seem to understand. Everything I read said I should check the box that says allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac. in respect of the security and confidentiality under general. Only problem is that I can't find such a thing anywhere... Any suggestion would be great.

You're supposed to open preferences system (on your MacBook), go to Security & Privacy and then check the box that says "allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac". And it has not worked for you?

Is your Apple Watch under the same Apple ID as your MacBook? If not, this is why it does not work. Otherwise... I don't really know.
