Mac > Windows 10 - moving pictures on disk external hard drive C: or?

First time Windows user; not much experience with LR/PS/cc.

Before selling my MacBook, I have all my files photo copied on an external drive. I just built a Windows PC and want to copy files from the external drive to the C: drive.

In the file browser, I see the external drive, drive C:, and "This PC', a section called"Images ". In this framework are three files: Camera Roll, Lightroom, the recorded images. In "Lightroom" is: Lightroom Catalog Previews, catalogue Lightroom, Lightroom Catalog.Ircat.lock, Catalog.Ircat - Lightroom journal.

Just downloaded PS and LR and the preceding must have been placed on my computer during the download.

My question is where can I copy files to my external drive to? One of the above or on the C: drive?

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

I would certainly put pictures on the external hard drive. There is virtually no advantage to place them on the C: drive, and they don't take up much space.

The whole of the process of moving to another computer is described in detail here: http://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-move-lightroom-to-new-computer/

  • Can I download originals to iCloud for mac before move library of photos on external hard drive

I moved my library of photos from my laptop on a thunderbolt 2 TB external drive. I opened pictures (option click) and chose this place to open. Then I opened the photos and click preferences on use this as library of photos of systems. I checked iCloud and he said that I had referenced files that could not be downloaded and consolidate them. I do not know which files are "referenced". These would be photos of the former library of iPhotos that was imported in the Photos. I have more than 20,000 pictures on iCloud. Will they all finally downloaded to my new library of pictures on the external hard drive? Or I have to download the originals on my mac before moving the library of photos on the external drive. I maybe need all start over and do it - except that I don't have enough space on my drive SSD from Mac to keep them all.

Any suggestions? My plan was to have my photos on iCloud, the originals on disk external hard and then the mac and HD on my time capsule. Access iCloud on my iPad photos air and iPhones, iPad pro.

When I look at the size of the library of photos in my pictures folder, it is about 12 GB - there is also an iPhotos library in the images folder which is 63 GB. I think I have to combine these files but don't know how to do this. If I also moves the iPhotos library to the new external hard drive which will be done automatically. Obviously I have not deleted the folders in the library on my Mac until it works.

They must synchronize the external disk if it's where you said Photos your library is (that you have).

Try to create a new smart album to see what is not downloaded.

  • To pictures of portable external hard drive

I have a lot of pictures on my laptop and a catalogue prepared by Lightroom 3.5.  I decided the best way to store photographs is to keep on an external hard drive so that I can work it easily from any computer on my network. (laptop is often cut)   Is there a way to keep/import/export/edit the current catalog so that it works with the pictures on the external hard drive? I wouldn't really have to redo the catalogue with all the keywords everywhere.

You can copy or move the catalog file (*.) LRCAT) for the external hard drive with your operating system (Windows or Mac Finder). Then, once moved, double-click it to open it. All of your information catalogue (keywords, other metadata changes) will be available.

The only problem (for Windows users, I don't know if this is true for Mac) is that the external hard drive should have the same letter on each computer you attach to. In other words, if it is today the E: drive on your computer, it must be the drive E: on all computers. Is relatively easy to change in the Windows drive letters; If you need to know how to do this, let us know.

And also I tried using diskpart.exe

This has not just to reformat the drive, so I can use it I do not have the information about this because it's still all on my computer any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    Hello

could a. you give us the exact error message and the error code, if any?
    b. what commands did you tried the diskpart utility?
    c. I recommend to do the full format rather than the quick and check.
    d. also try to format the drive on another computer and check.

I recommend you to use the clean command to remove and format all partitions on the external hard drive and check. See the article below for more information.

    Hi Andre,

I've struggled for some time with this one, here's how I finally solved it.  Apparently, USB drivers for mass storage devices was not compatible with my external hard drive.  I simply uninstalled the USB drivers for mass storage devices, then plugged my hard drive.  Automatically downloading appropriate drivers, and I was good to go.

Just thought you might want to know that.

    I restarted the computer.

    Thanks in advance

    @stu

Not because of the number of pixels, in this photo and the chosen level of quality there is no possible way to create a JPG file to the size of file you requested. You must change your export settings.

Show us a copy of the export dialog box, so we can see clearly the part file setting and the size of the Image.

Also indicate the number of this image (width and height) pixels after cropping (as appropriate) and prior to export.

  • Denied access in writing to a disk external hard drive for Windows XP laptop.

I have my laptop running on Windows XP. Recently I am facing difficulties to copy the files to my portable hard drive to an external hard drive (Intenso) - the error message "Unable to create the new folder - access denied".

Surprisingly, the last time that I triedto copy some files was in December 2010 and everything worked fine. Even more surprising is that when I'm trying to copy files from my laptop to desktop hard disk Intenso I barely have problems at all! It works very well. Also, the operating system of my portable desktop is also WindowsXP.

    Tilak

It seems that the hard drive is formatted with NTFS, and you must add the "everyone" to the root of the drive with ALL the account permissions and leaves all of the subfolders will inherit this setting.

    and they change its trajectory

but in my case that's not she appears only in management device that I tried to uninstall it but also did not work
After that I did any suggestions? !

Go to your computer manufacturer's support web site and search for the latest Windows 7 drivers for your specific model number.

Download the drivers to a folder on your hard drive and install all of them, from the card mother/chipset drivers, LAN, Audio, USB, Graphics, SATA, Webcam, Etc., and so on.

  • moving iPhoto videos on external hard drive

I am trying to export my videos to iphoto to external hard drive.  I choose 'export' as the original, but there is no place that I see write a destination disk.  The first attempt 625 clips wound up on my desk!

You have posted the pictures to Mac forum and ask questions about the use of iPhoto for Mac and gave no information on your system at all - what software do you use? And what OS?

Basically when you export the second window is a researcher like window where you select the location of the export

  • Windows 7 and 8 image on external hard drive?

Hello, I currently have a laptop running Windows 7. I also have pictures of the system on an external hard drive. My question is though, do a backup of the laptop image a family members running windows 8 will be a problem?

I ask because I have seen recoveries to be very picky with the stuff, and I don't mean the image of Windows 8 for corrupt/crash one of my previous images of Windows 7.

Hard disk external, I have three images of Windows 7 already, work around the fact that my recovery like replace the old image with the new by simply adding something the image of the old file name. It's the drive that I would like to ask the new image of Windows 8.

    Thank you in advance.

I have Images of XP 2 machines and a Windows 7 machine. Did not an Image of my Windows 8 machine yet, but other work.

The Images of XP was done with Pascale since XP has no builtin imaging application. One belongs to my daughter, the other to a friend. I just recently restored one of the XP images.

  • Move the Windows Media Player files to another external hard drive

The hard disk that contains the files from my Windows Media Player 10 is dying.  I need to move the data to a new hard drive that I bought, but have not yet connected to my PC.  Old and new external hard drives are plug-and-play.

I have a lot of additional information to the library and want to be sure that I don't lose in the process.  However, I have not found anything in the documentation that tells me how to move my database from one hard disk to another.  Can anyone help?

If music files are in MP3 or WMA format, so most of the information is also stored in the files themselves, so that these information will be retained when the files are moved. There are a few fields that are not stored in the files, such as play account, custom fields and possibly star ratings. In order to preserve these fields during the movement of the library, you can use the backup of the metadata tool.

  • Windows 7 does not detect my external hard drive

Window 7 is able to detect my external hard drive under devices and printers, it is able to detect the hard drive, and there is no problem for her.  but only shows no not my external hard drive under my computer icon so I can't drag files

How can I find the hard drive and put the files?

    Thank you

    OK follow the instructions;

    • Click the windows icon
    • Right click on computer > then click on scabies
    • on the left, under storage, click Disk Management

now the hard tip. You must identify which is your external hard drive. It should say something like disc 1 - online (if you have other removable things such as memory card readers may be something like disk5). DO NOT TOUCH DISK 0 (c) because it is your operating system and nothing change may / will kill the system.

It doesn't have a letter from dirve allocated on the external drive then left and right click then click on change drive letter and paths.

Assign a new letter perhaps something like L: as who should enter into conflict with what it is then ok the windows... it should now appear.

Yet once just to reiterate do not assign c: or touch disk 0. you have been warned.

Here is a link with pretty pictures to help you a bit

The most difficult part is to find what is your hard drive. Good luck. If you're worried you can take a screenshot of the management of the computer and upload it to your skydrive. We would advise you that it is.

    Hope that helps...

  • How to backup Mac without Time Machine that is erasing external hard drive?

    Hello

I'll put in my computer at the store to have the battery changed and to back up my computer. Only got 1 external hard drive and 80% busy, I can't really destroy the entire disk to back up my Mac with Time Machine. I also fear that I manually back up aka. copy and paste all the files, things like iTunes or Photo Booth will not read data from the library when 'restored' aka. copy and paste again and so I have to start over. What should I do?

Thank you very much for the help!

If you have more data on your MBA to amount of available space on your external HARD drive, you will need to:

1 remove data to the external HARD drive to make room.

2 delete the data on the MBA.

    3 a combination of 1 and 2.

    4. use another external HARD drive.

    Ciao.
