To pictures of portable external hard drive

I have a lot of pictures on my laptop and a catalogue prepared by Lightroom 3.5.  I decided the best way to store photographs is to keep on an external hard drive so that I can work it easily from any computer on my network. (laptop is often cut)   Is there a way to keep/import/export/edit the current catalog so that it works with the pictures on the external hard drive? I wouldn't really have to redo the catalogue with all the keywords everywhere.

You can copy or move the catalog file (*.) LRCAT) for the external hard drive with your operating system (Windows or Mac Finder). Then, once moved, double-click it to open it. All of your information catalogue (keywords, other metadata changes) will be available.

The only problem (for Windows users, I don't know if this is true for Mac) is that the external hard drive should have the same letter on each computer you attach to. In other words, if it is today the E: drive on your computer, it must be the drive E: on all computers. Is relatively easy to change in the Windows drive letters; If you need to know how to do this, let us know.

  • Mac > Windows 10 - moving pictures on disk external hard drive C: or?

First time Windows user; not much experience with LR/PS/cc.

Before selling my MacBook, I have all my files photo copied on an external drive. I just built a Windows PC and want to copy files from the external drive to the C: drive.

In the file browser, I see the external drive, drive C:, and "This PC', a section called"Images ". In this framework are three files: Camera Roll, Lightroom, the recorded images. In "Lightroom" is: Lightroom Catalog Previews, catalogue Lightroom, Lightroom Catalog.Ircat.lock, Catalog.Ircat - Lightroom journal.

Just downloaded PS and LR and the preceding must have been placed on my computer during the download.

My question is where can I copy files to my external drive to? One of the above or on the C: drive?

    Thanks for any help/suggestions.

I would certainly put pictures on the external hard drive. There is virtually no advantage to place them on the C: drive, and they don't take up much space.

    @stu

Not because of the number of pixels, in this photo and the chosen level of quality there is no possible way to create a JPG file to the size of file you requested. You must change your export settings.

Show us a copy of the export dialog box, so we can see clearly the part file setting and the size of the Image.

Also indicate the number of this image (width and height) pixels after cropping (as appropriate) and prior to export.

  • Why has Lightroom copied my pictures from my external hard drive to my drive internal while the import?

I loaded all my photos on an external hard drive, created a new catalog and imported into Lightroom CC. However, there, without checking the book 'copy' copied all the pictures imported on my internal drive and they also linked in this way. Is it possible to ask Lightroom to just link the photos on my external hard drive?

If you want pictures to stay where they are on the import, you must specify "Add", not "Move" or "copy".

  • The combination catlogs referencing pictures on several external hard drives?

    Hello:

Working with a client who had about 250 000 images stored on two 2 TB external hard drives... some pictures on each drive...

We went just to LR CC2015 and I would like to eliminate the redundancy of the CATALOG.

To get started, I created two catalogues, one for each hard disk and imported (added that copies of the photos of each disc).

Now I want to combine catalogs in a renowned referencing all the pictures on it

    several external hard drives.

I think it is ok to do this but it best to double check with forum initially thought. Thanks in advance for the help.

    Barbara Reiner

You can use the "Import an another catalog" option under the file menu to import a catalog into another. I suggest that you set "File management" as shown in the attached screenshot. In this way there is no need to move/reconnect files/photos associated with the source file.

  • Cannot transfer pictures to the external hard drive (refused)

    Hey!

I can't transfer jpg on my computer to my external hard drive all of a sudden. He's worked a lot of years and now when I try to drag the photos on it gives me a stop sign, that white circle with the diagonal line through it. What gives? Any help would be great appreciated! I have a lot of work there.

    Additional information:

-J' have permission to read and write on the jpg photos, but the disk that he said that I can read only, and there is no way to change this, when I click on the little triangle down.

-I can drag photos that already exist ON the disk hard ON my desk, but not vice versa

-All files are jpg files, and they are in a separate folder on my desktop, not from my iphoto library or whatever it is

-J' also tried to delete the "com.apple.recentitems.plist" of the finder, and nothing has changed

-The disc model is a "Slim Seagate laptop drive"

-Here is a photo of the hardrive info:

    Thank you

The external HARD drive is formatted NTFS, which allows you to write on it unless you have a third party app like Paragon or Tuxera.

You had these software installed by Seafgate in the drive, but it is now obsolete and should be updated.

    Ciao.

  • Can I use CC with pictures on an external hard drive?

I bought Adobe CC and my images are just now in the photos on a Mac. I've never used photo (used opening), but when the upgrade to Yosemite to El Capitan Aperture was more consistent. I have a lot of images, I should Adobe CC a link to the images that I copy on an external hard drive or keep them on the Mac. Totally confused.

You can put your photos in any folder... just you know that you can "confuse" the program if you disconnect the external hard drive

  • large external hard drive for editing fcpx

Hi, a question of two parts:

    1. I was wondering how people manage their media: is it recommended to store the middle on an external hard drive and the reference to it? Or are the libraries & projects also stored on an external drive?

    2. I have about 4 TB of video and want to buy a large external hard drive that is fast enough for 4 k video editing (with proxy or optimized media, single stream, nothing too fancy etc.). I just bought the new iMac 5 k which has connections thunderbolt.

I read a lot about love at first sight vs. speed USB3, disk hard drive gears, RAIDs etc but am not the wisest. I don't want to it is an exaggeration either.

    It would be good enough: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01BBZ4Q0C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8 & psc = 1 & smid = A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Or is it better to use for backup and should I go for the version of TB: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FIYJ7LG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8 & psc = 1 & smid = A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

    Or a USB3 would be pretty quick with a double disc is RAID0? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Book-Desktop-External-Drive-WDBLWE0080JCH-EESN/dp/B00L9 0DX04/ref = pd_sim_147_4? ie = UTF8 & PSC = 1 & refRID = YFMN75KFN652T20XB40B

Price differences are pretty extreme and I know too how much of a real difference it would make to my editing.

I have trouble with my 2010 macbook pro and a portable external hard drive 5400 RPM so would avoid this situation.

    Thanks in advance!

1 - Yes, always put libraries and media on a second fast drive.  Video/audio "data streaming" can bog down the stream of data required by the operating system and the app themselves.  There is limited bandwidth between the CPU and hard drives, as your Internet connection.

RIAD 0 is quite obsolete, stay away from him.  USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt are good enough for 4K editing.  RAID is faster than the single SSD (same).  Spins disks should always be 7200 RPM, even the system drive.  5400 is far too slow.  If you go with RAID, get a 4th unit of Bay, with 7200 RPM drives in a RAID 5 configuration.  MacSales.com has excellent products.  As promises (their RAIDS of you bolt P2 are the fastest on the market) and other well known brands.  I was never a fan of the product line of My Book.

  • transfer of downloads on iMac on external hard drive

How can I transfer music from my iMac to a portable external hard drive

    Just drag and drop!

However if you are referring to move your library iTunes music to an EHR, then:

    • Quit iTunes.
    • Locate your iTunes folder.
    • Drag the iTunes folder from its location on an external drive. The files in your library and media copy to the disc.
  • Storage of photos, external hard drive, Dropbox, need space

Hi, I'm under the Photos to Mac and my computer has 120 GB. I have a lot of pictures and I also TAKE a lot of photos, and I ran out of space. So, I try to find a solution in the future. I'll write a short list of what I've tried so far and I'm subscribed to services, but I hope someone can help me create a system that works in the long term, especially so that my photos and videos are safe and I'll always have more than one backup.

I have dropbox and download automatic camera, and I also have pictures of Google which stores the version not high resolution of all. I bought a large external hard drive today and copied my library of Photos on it, but now I think... If I connect my iPhone to my computer and it starts automatically upload all my pictures BUT my external hard drive is not connected... where are these pictures? A different photo library? How can I get the new additions on the hard drive?

Dropbox is a solution? Just copy the entire photo library in dropbox? If so, make new additions in photos automatically the head of this dropbox folder? I have to keep this dropbox folder sync on my computer (in which case... There is not enough space on the hard drive...).

In addition, the library of photos on the mac is 35 GB, but the mac is relatively new. My iPhotos library of before a 250 GB and I would like a way to combine all these old photos in a library of solid, but with only 120 GB on this computer, how can I manage consolidate all this?

Finally, go ahead I intend to start using a camera DSLR and editing photos... what kind of storage solution/system I need? I think it would be awkward hanging around external hard drives with libraries on them?

I hope that these issues are clear, and I would appreciate any input.

absolutely not - the photo library may not be on DropBox, as a library of operation or a backup - it may be local

Basically, the answer is that if you want to use high-quality photos, you need a lot more storage Mac - 120 GB is tiny - if you want to make things interesting to improve your storage space

You can use iCloud photo library with photos optimized on your computer, but can be slow to download and required Internet to make changes

You use IPHOTOS or PHOTOS and what version of the operating system.

You can have several libraries in IPHOTOS and PICTURES (in the pictures that only your library designated system is synchronized with other devices via ICLOUD).     You can split the libraries of useful information - like a vacation, family events, pictures of your pets.
