  My 3rd generation recently bought Apple TV has caused some grief. Basically, the streaming quality is terrible - choppy playback and sound distortion. This happens when a Macbook or an iMac (the current two El Capitan 10.11.6 enforcement) are used to disseminate content to Apple TV.

  But here's the strange thing: when an iPhone 5 s is used to stream HD video, everything works perfectly. The Apple TV also works perfectly when the content is accessed directly from the Apple TV menu (in other words, no computers are involved).   I have a MacBook Air c.2011 and my partner just to buy a version of 2016 - both running OS X Yosemite. I also have a 24 inch iMac c.2009 sitting on office desk at home (also in the Yosemite running). We want to be able to to connect/cradle our laptops on the iMac so we can use the larger screen as the computer of the reception, access to data and files on laptop computers.

  After extensive online research, the only way I can see it working is - port thunderbolt out of Macbook to the Firewire 800 port on the iMac.

  Problem is that I had trouble finding (a) a firewire cable in all good electronics stores because they are obsolete or (b) a port adapter male firewire/woman lighting.

  Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

  Please read carefully use your iMac as a display with the target - Apple Support Display Mode. You will see that the iMac is too old to use TDM. Sorry for the bad news. You can search for software solutions however performance is very poor.

  Please read carefully and follow the advice to move your content to a new Mac - Apple Support. In my humble OPINION, the best method of migration is when you turn on the computer for the first time. Need other machine Time Machine (clone bootable rescue or) connected to the new machine. Installation Wizard you may be asked if you are a migration, select Yes and follow the on-screen guests, and you'll be fine. For the most reliable connection, use a USB connection, use NOT of Wi - Fi!

  I edited several photos with lightroom and this external hard drive via my macbook pro. When I unplug my external drive and connect to my iMac and import a folder (no copy and move), none of my edits are here! or the sides.   The changes are saved in the catalog, not for pictures.

  So to see the changes on both computers, you will need to keep the file containing the LR catalog and previews on the external hard drive.

  Use the Finder to copy this folder since the Macbook pro hard disk external. It is usually located inside the images folder or similar.

  Now make sure you always open the catalog from the external drive. To avoid confusion you can rename the catalog if you like, you then have to rename the folder seen accordingly. Make sure you do it with closed Lightroom. You can launch LR by double-clicking the file catalog.
