• Turn off Mackeeper

  Anyone know how to disable MacKeeper and MegaBackup? I don't want these two things continue to run in groups. I tried to close and then down in the activity monitor, but it did not work. Thank you.

  'MacKeeper' is a scam with only a handy feature: it deletes itself.

  If you have removed incompletely MacKeeper - for example, by dragging the application to the trash and empty it immediately - so you will need to reinstall and start over.

  Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.

  IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls a function of "encryption". In my tests, I did not try to verify what actually makes this function. If you used to 'Encrypt' one of your folders, 'read' before uninstall, or (preferably) to restore files from backups made before they have been "encrypted". As the developer is not trustworthy, you have to assume that the 'decrypted' files are corrupt, unless evidence to the contrary.

  Please backup all data before making any changes.

  In the Finder, select

  ▹ Applications go

  from the menu bar, or press shift-command-A key combination. In the folder that opens the 'MacKeeper' application. Quit smoking it runs, and then drag it to the trash. You will be asked for your login password. Click on the button uninstall MacKeeper in the dialog box that appears. All the other functional components of the software will be removed. Restart the computer and empty the trash.

  ☞ MacKeeper leave before dragging it to the trash.

  ☞ Leave MacKeeper remove its other components before you to empty.

  ☞ try not to drag MacKeeper leave the Dock or dashboard in the trash.

  ☞ do not try to remove MacKeeper when running in safe mode.

  "MegaBackup" is an application of unworthy of trust-storage cloud or perhaps real malware. I have not tried to make this distinction. To remove it, please start back up all the data (not with the MegaBackup himself, of course). Then take the steps below.

  1 Select the elements of the connection tab in the users pane and groups of system preferences. Remove all elements with a name starting in 'MegaBackup '.

  2 log off or restart the computer.

  3. slide the MegaBackup application in the Applications to the trash and empty folder.

  Note that you cannot delete any application trying to drag its icon from the LaunchPad or the Dock. You must open the Applications folder in the Finder.

  May have installed ad-injection malware with "MegaBackup." If you don't see unaccustomed pop-up in a web browser, ask for additional instructions.

  I understand that Firefox profile data loss can be very frustrating, especially when you had the same profile for a while. Unfortunately, if there is no return to the top of the profile, it is not possible to recover.

  MacKeeper popped up and indicated that a Web site that I had opened a session had introduced a virus on my computer. Now, it appears on the emails, pop-up windows, etc. Is this real or dangerous itself?

  Scam.  Do not install it.

  System-cleaners and third-party anti-virus can not know that the system of "criticism" of the files like OSX only.  These can slow down or damage the system enough to require from a reliable backup to know months or a new installation of Mac OS x.

  When installing MacKeeper, claiming to be "clean and protect your Mac" software he installed several pieces of adware and scareware which not only bore you and invites you to buy stuff you don't want or need but are possible phishing sites. I downloaded and installed under the impression that he was free. The announcement led me to download, he stated that he was free. I discovered that it was free to download, but cost money to use. I ran and concluded that he would do nothing unless you paid, I paid for one month of use ($19.95) and he ran. He said that he found and repaired somewhere about 12 000. Immediately I started to receive Web pages popping up trying to sell me software Reimage and foreclosed homes, etc. I ran MacKeeper again and it found and corrected a number of problems. Then, I decided to check it out and ran a battery of 10 times and each time he finds and repaired several different issues. How can issues arise only once to another when I didn't do anything else? I uninstalled MacKeeper and requested a refund. I immediately started to receive Web pages supposed to be Apple and similar to official pages on the Apple site informing me that I had three viruses and that the only course of action was to download MacKeeper (I saved bookmarks to these sites just in case I could find a place to report them to and when I try to go there, I get a warning that it is a suspected phishing site.) This happen several times per hour. In the meantime, I will continue to get windows trying to me but Reimage, foreclosed homes, MacKeeper or what have you. Sometimes, I'd get a vertical Ribbon about 2.5 "wide ALLERT saying me do nothing at all until I called Apple Support to the number they give me or asking me to chat online with Apple support representatives. Finally, I used EtreCheck to find the malicious files on my system and crossed the tedious task to find and remove them. However EtreCheck has provided me with the paths to them.

  All the apps 'cleaning' are scams. There are still worse examples as 'MacKeeper.

  I would highly recommend against installing MacKeeper. It is much better to cause problems then he resolve them.

  Pop - up that claim that you have problems on your Mac is scams. You don't want to call them or allow them to have access to your Mac.

  If this is the case frequently you probably have the adware installed on your Mac. Please download and install https://www.malwarebytes.org to rid your Mac of adware that is infesting it.

  lately the Ive been harassed by MacKeeper to download a program to 'clean up' malware... everytime I open a new window in Safari/Chrome another window opens automatically on the page of "MacKeeper.co" (literally .co) asking me to download and install the program. I really do not trust them and that bothers me really, is that today ' today the program downloaded automatically!
