Maintenance mode vcenter 6 active cluster Ha

Hello

I have a cluster 6 version which consist of version 6 of 5 host, but when I put my hosts in Maintenance mode, it blocks just task to 2%, not had the license for DTH.

My config HA is turn off: power of VM allow operations that violate constraints of availability.

My vmotion works because if I move-vm by powercli, it works correctly.

Why HA mode do not move vm other hosts

Thank you

To do this, you need DRS. HA will just restart VMs in case a physical host fails, but it won't live vMotion migrate virtual machines when you put a host into maintenance mode.

You must manually migrate all the virtual machines in this host if you put it in maintenance mode.

  • How to upgrade vcenter host when the host needs to be in maintenance mode

Hi, I have a host 5.5 with 3 VMs (2 production servers and 1 Server vcenter). Now I see for updating the host using vcenter Update Manager documentation is quite simple. The thing I don't understand until you can fix, the esx host must be in maintenance mode, which means no VMs, including the vcenter server, which is the only way you can do a right click on the host and choose restore. Now how can I fix if the server is in maintenance mode and my vcenter server is down?

I have the vsphere client installed on my laptop, version 5.5, but him, I did not have the remediation option. How can I put my 5.5 esxi host?

    Thank you

With only one host in place and vCenter Server as a virtual machine running on this host, you cannot use Update Manager. Your options are either interactively update the host using a CD or update patch / the host from the command line using esxcli.

  • Extract warehouses of data in Maintenance Mode

    Hello

I have several data stores that are in maintenance mode that I moved out of cluster data store, but they are always connected to the host.

Is it possible to find all data stores in the vcenter which are in Maintenance Mode?

so that I can remove and detach all at once.

    Hello

a simple cmd to find shops of maintenance data would be:

    Get-Datastore. Where {$_.} State - eq 'Maintenance'}

  • ESXi 5.0 maintenance mode

    Hello

I was testing just esxi 5.0 on a dell server. What exactly does maintenance mode only when a host is placed in the corresponding mode?

I just uninstall Dell OpenManage ServerAdmin VIB without placing the host in maintenance mode. I know this isn't the right way to the esxi host service but I was just test it and see what happens.

    Thank you

Maint. mode prevents execution of this host of VMs.  It can be used to cause vCenter expel VMs for this host in a cluster HA or DRS so that you can work safely on this host.

  • VMotion after putting the host in maintenance mode

I would like a way to put a server esx in maintenance mode and let it automatically script vmotion guests to other hosts. It's about default behavior in the GUI, but when I use set-vmhost-maintaining state in the powercli, the host will just wait until all the vm is turned of / of are migrated manually, before going to interview.

An easy way to achieve this, without loop through all the vm on the host?

However you can use the HostSystem.EnterMaintenanceMode method as a workaround.

    $h = Get-VMHost myHost | Get-View -Property Name
    $task = $h.EnterMaintenanceMode_Task(-1, $true)
    $task | Get-ViObjectByVIView | Wait-Task

Here's what the SDK documentation says on the migration of virtual machines

Operation not directly initiate evacuation operations or power off virtual machines. However, if the host is part of an active cluster with VMware DRS, DRS provides recommendations for migration to evacuate VMS under tension. If the DRS is in fully automatic mode, they are automatically on demand. If the host is part of a cluster and the task is published by VirtualCenter with evacuatePoweredOffVms set to true, the task will not succeed unless all the virtual computers turned off are reregistered to other hosts. If VMware DRS is enabled, VC will evacuate VMS power off automatically. The task is cancelable.

  • Disable HA or use the Maintenance Mode when the upgrade of the network switches

    Hello

We expect the upgrade to our network switches. In the case where the hosts loose network connection I want to avoid having HA suddenly and guests try to run current virtual machines. What is best practices for cluster HA-activated in case guests loose network connection?

Disable HA or put all hosts in maintenance mode? Or is there another suggestion?

    Vickers

If you are using vSphere 4 there is option to disable HA response to failure without disabling agents HA HA. This option has been added specifically for when you know you're going to do the maintenance of the network and that you do not want HA answer when the management network is down. It is much faster to do that that in order to completely disable the HA or put all hosts in maintenance mode.

    You have a vCenter?

If so, these virtual machines are not started on another node of ESXi through HA?

With the help of an alarm would be an option?

  • close procedure, necessary maintenance mode?

    Hello

We add the ram for the blades of our production. We will stop the running virtual machines.

I don't remember if I need to place the ESX host in maintenance mode before power off?

    can anyone confirm?

It would be a good idea to set mode maintence first then the front blade power off memory upgrade

VCenter otherwise go see that a unexecpted by saying stop and a virtual machine could land on the blade during power off if you have some DRS will.

  • Will be the virtual machine starts on another host (during the blackout) if he can't switch to Maintenance Mode?

    Hello

We use a cluster with 2 5.1 ESXi hosts.  When attempting to place an ESXi host in Maintenance mode, he failed and said "not enough resources to satisfy configured level of failover for HA.

We would like to know, just in case where one of these ESXi hosts failed, VMs will be start on another ESXi host (at least some) or all of them will be down (i.e. None of them start)?  If no virtual machine will be migrated, we will change our level of failover for HA.

    Thank you

This occurs when you enable admission control on your HA cluster. When the failure of the host occurs and you have Admission control is enabled, it will let all market on the other host machines because it violates the constraints of availability.

If you turn this off all VM is switched even if you do not have enough resources to accommodate all the s VM on a single host. On a long term, I would say that you have sufficient resources to allow this to happen. But for now, you can turn it off and try.

  • VCops cannot determine if a vSphere host is in maintenance mode?

VCops 5.7.0 running.  Try to compare performance before and after a certain date.  However, the current environment has 3 hosts who are in maintenance mode.   vCops does not have the MM into account when calculating the host how many are in the cluster and how machines virtual hosts.  This lost data when you try to compare to the previous period.

This has been resolved in later versions?  No work around?

    Thank you

It is has not been implemented in the versions available (up to 5.7.2)

  • Maintenance mode that is required to scan?

Our best practices has always been to put the hosts in maintenance first mode, and then analyze the updates with the Update Manager. We seek to implement scheduled scans, and the only thing stopping us is our practice of the mode of maintenance in advance. Is this necessary? Or are we able to scan hosts for production with active virtual machines safely?

Yes, you can scan the hosts while they have running VMs. Maintenance mode is not necessary for this.

  • Maintenance mode migrates virtual machines only from GUI

We have 6 * 5.1 with configured ESXi HA, DRS and a 5.1 Vcenter.

If we put an ESXi in maintenance mode through the user interface of Vcenter all virtual machines will be to migrate to other hosts, there is no problem at all.

But if we put the same through VMA host in maintenance mode, virtual machines will suspend mode and the host goes into maintenance mode. On the GUI in Vcenter we get a message that a migration will not work in the current state. Due to the fact that the message is in German, there's not so much sence to post it here, I guess.

Background is, we have two or three guests time in different places. Two locations in separate buildings, with separate power supply and separate UDP for this purpose.

So if a location powerd down the udp Protocol must stop the hosts in this place and the virtual machines have to migrate over.

SVMotion is not necessary, the SAN is a unit of mirroring automatc.

Please take a look at Re: scripted Maintenance Mode to see if that helps.

  • ESX Server won't go into maintenance mode - Timeout

We have 1 host ESX 4.1 support our view desktop computers. I tried to plan a reorganization of the host during the night, but jobs would not be the exit ramp leading to the maintenance task timeout mode.

What will do to make desktop computers will be exit during this upgrade? I put all the desktops into maintenance mode before the host trys to remedy?

    Thank you

    Travis

This part of a cluster DRS ESX Server? If not you will need to manually stop or vmotion the VMS to another ESX host before it can go into maintenance mode - if it's part of a DRS DRS cluster must be set fully automated so DRS can automatically vmotion the VMs before entering maintenance mode.

  • What is EBS point maintenance mode

I'm working on the value of EBS maintenance mode as enabled through ADADMIN, regarding to keep users informed that the system is out of service for maintenance

Naturally I enanble maintenance mode in order to use adpatch or adadmin and when it is activated, users trying to log in get a message about the system being down for maintenance.

However when I apply a fix of BSE, I usually use adstpall.sh to stop all application Services - including managers Conc, Forms Server, and even the Apache server.

Therefore, I don't see how users get a maintenance message at all when they try to open a session (since the Apache server is down) - surely they get URL Not found!

Can anyone share their understanding of how it works?
