Make a mandatory field if the selection is made in the drop-down list

Hello

Does anyone know how to make a field optional mandatory change based on a selection made in a drop down list?

For example, I have a combo that has option 1-3, and I have a hidden field that is optional. When option 3 is chosen the hidden field is visible, but I also want to be required before a the form submission is possible.

Thanks in advance for any idea!

You can place this code in your event out of you in the drop-down list... Just change TextField1 your domain name and make sure that the language is set to JavaScript:

If (this.selectedIndex == 2) {}

TextField1.presence = "visible";

TextField1.mandatory = "error";

TextField1.mandatoryMessage = ' this field is required ".

}

else {}

TextField1.presence = 'hidden ';

TextField1.mandatory = "disabled";

}

  • Hide text in the field when the drop-down list is selected

    Hello, I am looking for a way to hide text in a text field when a number is from a drop-down list. For example, I have a table with text field that have a line pre-populated text in them. I would like the text to be deleted if 'Yes' is selected in a data entry drop-down list in the text box empty now.   Here's what I have so far:

    If (this.rawValue == 'Yes') {SubStandard_A.StandardPkgTbl.Row1.TextField2.rawValue == ' ' ;}}

    I tried .rawValue == "", .rawValue == null, .clearItems

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hello

    Just spotted your original script had a double == when assigning the value to the rawValue. You must use the double == equality test.

    Here is a sample.

    We hope that make you it work.

  • How to disable the field in the drop-down list to enter a value

    I got a box dropdownlist field and previously a few numerical values on her list:

    say a list of page numbers,

    11

    22

    33

    41

    42

    43

    52

    ..

    I put codes on the change event so that once the user clicks on an element, it is directed to the specific page immediately.

    But the case is that some users would like to enter the field and type a number rather than clicking.

    If he tries to type 42, change event will get him on page 41 instead (as the 1 '4' tank is put in correspondence),

    and then accidentally edit a field then put the tank rest '2' on it.

    so, how can I disable tapping on a drop down field?

    Rgds.

    Hello

    If you select the drop-down list and go to object > field palette. Here you can uncheck "allow customized entry. This will prevent the user to type in the drop-down list.

    With the drop-down menus, I prefer script to the exit event.

    Good luck

  • How to make the fields from the drop-down list required to make a selection before you save a PDF file

    I have a PDF form where I entered a JAVA script in some areas by using the option ON BLUR under 'Actions' and it works very well to prevent users to go to another site if they leave the field with the empty JAVA Script in place.

    My question is that I have other form fields that have a drop down menu where they can choose several options. I would also like to make these fields to where they can't move forward on the form unless they choose an option in the list. However, because with the option in the list "choose a ' is a default option entered into the field (field is not empty), script JAVA of BLUR ON option I used in my empty fields does not work to block the user to move beyond the matter without selecting an option. They are able to save the form with all the drop down menus staying to 'pick '.

    I made the field "Required fields" then they are highlighted with the red area around, but is there another tool to force them to choose an option for each in the drop down menus before you save the form, instead of being able to save with leaving the 'choose One' in the field by default?

    The best way to do this without knowing the default value of the field is to compare the value of the field to the default value of the field... You must make sure that your default value is not part of the possible acceptable answer. It works with most of the field types that a user can fill.

    If (event.value! = event.defaultValue) {}

    do something;

    App.Alert ("required field not completed. \nField name: "+ event.target.name, 1, 0);

    }

  • show/hide fields based on the drop-down list of choices

    I have a field from the drop-down list with three choices. Based on the selection, I need a specific text form field to appear and the others to stay hidden. (Or if it makes the code cleaner, the resulting field could be a drop-down list, too, with the selected choice.) I don't know Java well enough to extrapolate the code from the examples online and it fit my forms. I can provide an example of form. Thanks in advance for your help.

    There are ways to run this.  the easiest for you would be to add this script to the event (calculation of the Properties tab) to calculate the field that must be hidden.  Take notes, all "/ /" is some tips for you to understand the code.  You will need to put this script in all the areas you want to replicate the behavior, change the value depending on what you want to accomplish.  the word 'event' means myself to make you understand.

    If (this.getField("dropdown").value == 'put value here') {//replace "drop down" with the name of the drops}

    Event.Target.Display = display.visible;

    }

    else {}

    Event.Target.Display = display.hidden;

    }

    This works if you have a small amount of fields.  If you manage to have a large number of similar fields, let me know because there are other, faster ways.

  • Hide several pages unless the drop-down list is selected

    Hello

    I have a 4-page form that I need to be able to hide 3 of 4 pages until a selection is made from a drop-down list on the first page box. So I have, for example, the pages marked:

    Page 1

    Page 2

    Page 3

    Page 4

    I have a drop down list which has

    Page 2

    Page 3

    Page 4

    for options and if no selection is made only Page 1, will be visible. If the selection is Page 2, I wish that all pages except page 2 to be hidden and only see page 2, did not 4 pages show and only show Page 2 fields.

    Does anyone know how to do this?

    Thanks in advance for any idea!

    The only downside to the activation of your condition is that the first page of the form can not be deleted. If you set page 1 "Hidden" will be hidden objects on the page, but the page itself will remain in the form that is displayed as a blank page.

    Attached shows a form with page 0-4 (5 pages). A drop down menu on page 0 and it controls the rendering of pages 1-4.

  • XLATLONGNAME from the drop-down list should be a default value in the edit box

    Hello

    I have two fields in a grid, one named "TEST_Type" and one is named 'TEST_Name' edit box
    Use cases, TEST_Name by default will be TEST_Type in Drop Down.

    "TEST_Type" is the translation of edition Table and 'TEST_Name' will contain XLATLONGNAME.

    I do drag XLATLONGNAME of PSXLATITEM table in my grid and make related field and "TEST_Type" a related control field.

    Show LongName according to the value "TEST_Type.

    If the field 'TEST_Name' RowInit, I wrote

    If GetRow(). IsNew and
    No (MYRecord.TEST_NAME. Value) then
    MYRecord.TEST_NAME. Value = GetRow(). GetRecord (Record.PSXLATITEM). GetField (Field.XLATLONGNAME). Value;
    End - If;

    It gives an error

    "Class line method GetRecord account PSXLATITEM is not valid. (2 268)

    MYRecord.TEST_NAME. RowInit

    The recording has been used as a parameter of the specified method. It is not valid for the current object. »

    What is the problem?

    Is there a better solution for this use case?

    Thanks in advance

    I think you mix a few think upwards.

    The drop is on a class with the values of translate. So, when you set the property to the field from the drop-down list page to view the longxlatitem, you are finished.

    If you want to copy the xlatlongvalue for some reason any other areas, use instead the domain object properties.

    & dropdownlownlist = getrecord([YOUR_RECORD]).getfield ([YOUR_FIELD]);
    VALUE = & dropdownlownlist. LongTranslateValue;

    Kind regards

  • Command to refresh a calculated field when you select an option from the drop-down list box

    When my form user selects an option in a drop-down list box, the value in the field (in this case, Total) I would like to update, but it isn't.

    A radio button option box makes the Total-development field to automatic update when the user clicks on the radio button. But the drop-down list box is not updated Total (without clicking away from the field). I would like to add a command in the Combo Box to refresh the Total field when you selected the option to drop-down list box.

    Someone at - it a code (Javascript?) to get there.

    Thank you very much.

    You don't need a script, simply select the 'Value selected to validate immediately' checkbox on the Options tab of the dialog list box drop-down list box field properties.

  • Show alert window when the selection is made in menu drop-down (or when the text field is filled)

    I'm a JavaScript novice writer and need help a warning window that meets the programming user selection form a menu drop-down.

    If the user selects any option except the default choice (which is just an empty space), I want an alert is displayed.  If the user is moving through this area without changing the default value, nothing should happen.

    I have a script attached to the "blur" event for the dropdown menu, but it appears each time you tab in this area, of course.  I don't know how to tell him to display the alert if and only if the user has changed the selection.

    Similarly, I have another field which is a simple text field.  If the user types anything in this area, I would like another alert window pops up.  The thing from the drop-down list seems a little more difficult, so if anyone can help me get that squared away, I can probably understand how to program the alert text field.

    In fact, it's the same code for both types of fields:

    If (event.target.value! = event.target.defaultValue) app.alert ("your message");

  • I created a PDF form with several drop downs, all with the same drop-down values. When I select a value of 1 in the drop-down list fields, it breeds in all others - which I don't want. How can I fix?

    I created a PDF form with several drop downs, all with the same drop-down values. When I select a value of 1 in the drop-down list fields, it breeds in all others - which I don't want. Can I fix?

    I am fairly new to this, but I think it has to do with the way you have drop them downs named. Copy you a then keep stick in each area? If so, that's the problem. You must rename each with a different number: Dropdown1, Dropdown2, etc. I think this might solve the problem.

  • How the auto fill a field based on the drop-down list unless the specific item is selected

    Hi all

    My apologies if I posted this in in the wrong place, but I am new to these forums, JavaScript and Adobe LiveCycle.

    I am trying to build a form using LiveCycle Acrobat but have problems with the drop-down lists.

    Inititaly I just wanted to fill in the fields in a table based on a matching menu selection dropdown in another table.

    I used the following code and it worked fine:

    Workbook.Content.Table1.Row3.AppropriationDetails.Row4.Cell1::change - (JavaScript, client)

    fFrom var = xfa.resolveNodes ("Workbook.Content.Table1.Row3.AppropriationDetails [*]. Row4.cell1');

    OTF var = xfa.resolveNodes ("Workbook.Content.Table2.Row3.AppropriationDetails [*]. Row4.cell1");

    for (var i = 0; i < = fFrom.length - 1; i ++) {}

    fTo.item (i) .rawValue = fFrom.item (i) .boundItem (xfa.event.newText);

    }

    The problem is that now I want the code above works UNLESS one of the items in the drop-down list is enabled specifically in this case, I want the text box in the other table to display a message such as "Details of the entry in the field below.

    I tried to create an If Else statement using the following code:

    Workbook.Content.Table1.Row3.AppropriationDetails.Row4.Cell1::change - (JavaScript, client)

    fFrom var = xfa.resolveNodes ("Workbook.Content.Table1.Row3.AppropriationDetails [*]. Row4.cell1');

    OTF var = xfa.resolveNodes ("Workbook.Content.Table2.Row3.AppropriationDetails [*]. Row4.cell1");

    for (var i = 0; i < = fFrom.length - 1; i ++) {}

    If (fFrom.item (i) .rawvalue = "Option 3") {}

    fTo.item (i) .rawValue = "enter the details in the field below.

    }

    else {}

    fTo.item (i) .rawValue = fFrom.item (i) .boundItem (xfa.event.newText);

    }

    }

    The code now filled the field with "Enter the details in the field below" any item I select in the drop-down list.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    See you soon,.

    Hello

    You use .rawValue in the change event. This will cause problems because the selection of the users has not received .rawValue from the drop-down list at the time when the change event is triggered.

    Move your script as it should to the output of the dropdown event.

    Hope that helps,

  • Automatically populate a drop-down list by using another selection from the drop-down list box

    New java/preparation forms so I apologize in advance.

    I currently have a menu drop-down box 1 (Occupation) with three options: "enter your own description/blank", retired housewife. When someone chooses either retirement or anyone at home, I would another drop box 2 (employer) to assign automatically "n/a. . The employer drop box has only two options: "enter your own/blank", N/A.

    Far, I could for that box to fill but only when the person clicks in the box (as if they were about to enter their own text.) Then only it will fill the drop-down list "employer." I would like it auto fill once the person has chosen retired, Virgin or stay-at-home woman without having to enter in the box (just using the arrow to the size of the drop-down list box).

    I currently have a key shot that resets the employer box when a person chooses the option vacuum/enter your own option. I then a JavaScript (only for the housewife now) that only works if you click the box of. Key combination works I want to than the other options work as well. If the client settles on white, the choice of the employer updates automatically empty without having to click in the box of. Any help (including general advice to make my code cleaner) is very appreciated!

    Current script of typing:

    If {(event.willCommit)

    If (event.value == "") this.resetForm (["use"]); of other SetFieldValues (event.value);

    }

    The current upward, mice running JavaScript :

    var v = this.getField ("Occupation") .value

    If (v is "Housewife")

    1. this.getField("Employer").value = "N/a".

    I think maybe I should use event.willCommit in my formula, but I'm not sure how to include it.

    Thank you!

    I would not use the key sequence or MouseUp actions for this, but the action post.

    Just make sure that you set the field option to validate the selected value immediately (under Properties - Options) and then use this code as the custom validation script:

    var employerField = this.getField("Employer");
    if (event.value=="Homemaker" || event.value=="Retired")
        employerField.value = "N/A";
    else employerField.value = employerField.defaultValue;

  • Make the subform visible in the drop-down list

    I have two drop-down lists in my form. I used the switch-case causes the option chosen in the drop-down list 1 to fill available items in the dropdown list 2. Depending on the option chosen in the drop down 2, I need to make the field visible or hidden. I don't know where I get the value of my if statement to make the field visible or not.

    Thank you

    MDawn

    Hi MDawn,

    Populating drop-down lists (DDL) is done by element pairs: addItem ("DDL text element displayed", the value of the element DOF) for example: ("Item", 1).

    You can access the value of point DOF using the output of the DDL event. Place a script here "this" to refer to the value of point DOF.

    For example, a script like

    If (this.rawValue == "1") {}

    Subform1. Presence = "visible";

    }

    will reveal the subform after the user selects a DDL element that has the value "1".

    In addition, you can consider using the preOpen event DDL to fill the 2nd drop-down list box. It allows to populate the drop-down list when clicked - this allows you to do a number of things such as check no matter what value of objects or more objects to their values before you decide what elements should be populated in the drop-down list box. It is powerful enough way to do this because it opens up a whole series of things that you were not able to do otherwise.

    I hope this helps.

  • How to select several channels in the drop-down list for switching?

    Hello

    I use TS2015 SP1 and SwitchExec 2015. I created a list of routes that are now visible in the properties of the step "Activation" in the drop-down list field "Way (s) to connect".

    Here, I can click on an item in the list to select it.

    What can I do to select a second item in the drop-down list?

    It seems that I have to write the second element after the decimal point manually. Is this correct? Or y at - it something to select back in the menu drop-down?

  • Selection in the drop-down list box determines the text to display in another box - ideas?

    Hello, my name is Zac.  I spent a lot of time trying to figure this one out for myself, but I couldn't find what I needed.  A few threads looked promising, but I realized that they only apply to the LiveCycle.  Many other threads link to discussion 2006 Thom Parker on this subject, but it is very advanced and I feel that what I need is not as complex as the solution he proposes.  I've never used Adobe Acrobat until a few weeks ago, but with the help of Bernd Alheit and George Johnson I managed to create a document with fly-out help windows and scrolling lists and radio buttons which dictate the choice.  It's great and it works.  The last thing I have to do is to create a text box (or some kind of box) which will display a pre-written block of text based on the user choice in another area (a drop-down list box).  Like this:

    image for forums 2.PNG

    I wish, it is also easy to create because it draw a picture of him!  If the user selects "Algebra 1", for example, a specific description display below.  There are a lot of courses and descriptions, and the descriptions are long enough (as shown).  It is not necessary for the user to make changes to the description - in fact, which would be terrible.  But I would like to be able to copy text from it and paste the text in another area of text on the same page.

    Thank you very much, all those who have ideas please share them! Again wild guesses. I learn from all this.

    -Zac

    This involves using a script. If you want to write the code yourself read this tutorial:

    https://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/change_another_field

    If you don't feel like messing around with the code, you can use this tool that I developed to easily set up with the help of an input file:
