Make sure that 'tour windows xp' appear again for a specific user

When I create a new account, a little balloon appears in the bottom right of the screen next to the notification area that says 'Windows XP Tour'. After awhile, she disappears.

Is it possible to bring it back and make it stay there all the time? How could I do? There must be a registry setting that keeps track of the amount of time since an account was created or how many connections, so how can I change it to always do this prompt? Can I use an editor hex old-fashioned thus.

I have an old relative who keeps forgetting basic skills such as how to reduce a window, the use of the taskbar and sometimes forget that the large list of programs are now under 'all programs' (although I solved it using the start menu classic.) I don't know what I'll do when she gets a new machine with Windows 8, since this feature has been removed in 7). I'm tired of always prompting you to go to start-> all programs-> Accessories-> windows XP of the Tower, and I tried to add an icon on the desktop. I want just the reminder it so she can click it before calling me for really basic things I taught him a dozen years with his Windows 98 computer. This seems to happen more frequently, and I noticed that she is 'slide' into other things as well, so I'll try to make up for it.

P.S. I'm not sure which category I should be put under. I settled on "ease of access" because I try to help and an elderly woman in her late 90s access her computer when she keeps forgetting the basic skills. The tour is... temporarily.

Hi SlickRBCD,

If I understand correctly you have a problem with guided tour of Windows XP still appearing on specific users. Do not worry, I'm here to help you with this question.

Let us try the following steps and check if it works for you.

  1. Start the registry (Regedit.exe) editor.
  2. Locate and click the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Tour
  3. On the Edit menu, point to new, click Dword value, type RunCount, set the data value 1 (one) and then click OK.
  4. Exit the registry editor.

Warning: Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

Please answer if the steps do not have hepl, so that we could help you better.

He is not quite sure what you mean with the desktop client, but if you mean that VMware Workstation or VMware Player, then Yes you can.

    Hi JRCLNSIN100,

    Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forums.

We would like to get some more information from you to help solve your problem. You better, please answer the following questions.

    ·         What is the disk you use to reinstall?

    ·         Is this a recovery or reinstalling the disc you are using?

    ·         When exactly do you get this error message?

    ·         What is the edition of Windows Vista, you try to install?

    ·         How old is the drive that you are using?

    ·         How are you starting the installation process?

After researching the error 0x8007000D code is essentially due to file corruption and a problem with the drive itself.

First check if you have scratches or dust on the disc and clean the surface and try again.

To check if the disk is wrong, you will need to copy the contents of the DVD to the hard drive and try to install using that.

To perform a flat installation of Windows Vista, follow these steps.

Note The hard disk must have at least 3 GB of free space on the disk for the Windows Vista installation files. The hard disk must have at least 15 GB of additional disk space to install Windows Vista. For more information about system requirements for Windows Vista, see the Microsoft Web site at the following address:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/products/windowsvista/editions/SystemRequirements.mspx

    1. Insert the Windows Vista installation disc.
    2. Start Windows Explorer.
    3. In Windows Explorer, click to select the drive for the Windows Vista installation disc.
    4. On the Edit menu, click select all.
    5. On the Edit menu, click copy.
    6. Click to select the hard disk you want to contain the flat installation files.
    7. On the file menu, point to new, click the folder, type Windows Vista Setupand then press ENTER.
    8. Double-click the Windows Vista Setup program, and then click Paste on the Edit menu.
    9. Double-click Setup.exe, and then follow the instructions that appear.

See the link below for more information on flat installation.

  • Windows Virtual PC integrated with components lock me out of my WinXP - error of OEM comments - "the system could not log. Make sure that your user name and domain are correct... »

With my new desktop Windows 7 hardware configuration, I decided (before you consider VMware Player) to retry Windows Virtual PC; but instead of using Windows XP Mode (which is useless because the disk is inaccessible), I decided to use my own Windows XP Pro OEM. [I use it for games that won't play on Win7.  Security issues are also irrelevant, because for these games, I'm not likely to use the Web.  Of course, I always Windows Security Essentials in my OEM customers.]

The problem here is, whenever I have to Activate my integration, features VPC opens as if the Windows XP Mode have been installed (it is not); and when the screen is turned on, it asks my user name and password.  I tried to use the name and the password that I entered when installing my XP OEM; but I get this message:

"The system could not log.  Make sure that your user name and domain are correct.  Type your password again.  Letters in passwords must be entered using the proper case. »

How is it that I can't access my Windows XP OEM guest when the integration features are enabled?  Only when they are disabled can I activate my OS; invited but it's counterproductive, because I won't be able to move items from my host in my comments.  Once more, if I should decide to use VPC as my host VM for Linux Ubuntu/Kubuntu, what chance is there that the activation of the integration features will lock out me my Linux guest?

Another thing: in the Start Menu under Windows Virtual PC folder I have shortcuts for ' Windows Virtual PC ' or 'Virtual Machines' (according to the Win7 version I use, 32-bit or 64-bit); but I also have "Windows XP Mode", I have not installed.  How is that possible?  I checked the shortcut, and point it to rundll32.exe.  Should I just get rid of the shortcut, or I will incur damage to my VPC if I do?

Run the program Firefox once as an administrator (right click: run as administrator).

If this does not help, then do a clean reinstall.

    Do a clean install (re)-:

    • Download a new copy of Firefox and save the file to the desktop.
    • Uninstall your current version of Firefox and remove the Firefox program folder before installing this copy of the Firefox installer.
    • Do not erase personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    • It is important to remove the Firefox program folder to delete all the files and make sure that there is no problem with the files that were the remains after uninstallation.

Your bookmarks and other profile data is stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and will not be affected by a relocation, but make sure that you do not select delete data of a personal nature if you uninstall Firefox.
