• Malwarebytes - do I need anything else (security tips)

  Hello ladies and gentlemen, Apple Support Forums!

  I have a few questions about this great little Mac Mini on my desk. Coming from a Windows background, I have a bit of inherent paranoia that needs a bit of smoothing.

  I have read about the security of the Mac, on the defences of sandbox, Gatekeeper, never install suspicious applications etc. But I guess it's always better to have a scanner installed as well. Mac simplifies the sort to choose as my old Windows, Emsisoft Anti-Malware and Superantispyware programs do not provide versions of Mac.

  Malwarebytes is one of my classmates that comes with the Mac version. And howdy to how fast it scans. O_o compared to Windows 7 minutes 30 seconds.

  Norton was even crap in Windows and Avast, I have more confidence. Avira for Mac looks nice and simple.

  So my questions are the following:

  (1) do I need anything else besides that Malwarebytes and Avira? (And common sense, I got load of Windows security vulnerabilities...)

  (2) as I understand it, Windows malicious software may enter the Mac, but they are completely powerless to do anything, just hang out? Under no circumstances can they interfere with my Mac? So as long as I scan with Malwarebytes, all bad guys he finds are for Mac and trash from potential Windows that the rest is harmless anyway?

  Malwarebytes is a good software to search for Adware.

  Yes, Windows malware only will infect a Mac. Only concernis than if yo al; so to run Windows on your Mac.

• Malwarebytes will not uninstall.

  Messages in these forums just repeat what the Malwarebytes company says on its site.  It simply doesn't get it. Here's what they say:

  To uninstall Anti-Malware for Mac, launch the program and choose Uninstall Malwarebytes in the menu help (menu help are on the bar menu at the top of the screen).

  I run the program, and a box of 3 options will appear.  The last section is called help.  By clicking Help, anywhere on or near the help, only takes you to a guideline that tells you nothing about uninstalling.  The expression 'Uninstall Malwarebytes' is nowhere.

  In addition, aid is down, not from the top.

  I'm the one not getting it?  Can someone help me please?

  It looks like you use the premium version of Malware Bytes that has a web protection feature blocks websites. The "yuq.me" site seems to be an image hosting site (based on this post - http://kickassunblock.net/community/show/how-fix-yuq-me-links-easy-editing/ ). This means that if you are browsing websites such as forums where users are display images (links), Firefox will try to connect to this site.

  I installed Malwarebytes on my Mac all the time but I now seem to have trouble with it. I have a screen that gives me 3 options; Scan, the next step and get help. None of these options are sensitive. The window gives me only one option to reduce to a minimum and I don't have a line at the top of the screen to indicate that they are running and therefore no help button. I want to get rid of it, but how?

• SQLite and Malwarebytes files

  Whenever I run Malwarebytes on my laptop Win 7 I get at least 69 elements referring to the sqlite files.

  I don't know whether to remove them or not. I don't have this problem on my Vista desktop.

  If I have, or I should NOT delete these files when Mo found after a scan. They claim it ADWARE.

  I just checked, and they are all cookies. I then checked the details I've ever done and it shows a bunch of advertisements like Double click, etc.

  MalwareBytes has proved to be a safe and effective tool to remove the adware. Recommended that it, or its predecessor AdwareMedic, thousands of times here on Apple support communities.

  You should be aware that it is a "sensitive issue." There are some people who feel that Macs are immune to all malicious software or users themselves are ultimately to blame for their infections adware or malware. I do not share those beliefs.
