Management tool for small business series switches

We currently use CatTools for our infrastructure management systems; However, it does not support small business of switches of the series (IE SG300 & SG500). I am looking for a free/no expensive replacement. Any suggestions?

Looks like CatTools can work with some adjustments.

  • Fundamental issues of SFP for Small Business Switches

    Hi all

Just for fun, I would switch to fiber, running the trunk ports between my two Cisco SG300 lab switches but I'm new to the media.

In looking at the options, I thought that MM (MGBSX1) is the way to go, but the cost of the 'Official' FPS an arm and a leg. (don't forget, he is my laboratory, not a production environment).

I have a few newbie questions and forgive if this has been answered a hundred times, but I was not able to find in the search.

    1. What I really need to use Cisco brand trancievers? I've seen other than Cisco 1000BASE-SX SFP on ebay for a tenth of the cost. Given that, Yes, the quality may or may not be the same.
    2. Is MGBSX1 way to go? Switches are in different rooms, so distance is not a problem, my choice was based on cost trancievers and media.
    3. SFP ports are valued only Gigabit, but I saw a higher number variety quoted. Is this a limitation of the switch itself, the protocol used, or the transmission media?

Again sorry if these are questions of newb and thanks in advance!

    1. should I really use Cisco brand trancievers? I've seen other than Cisco 1000BASE-SX SFP on ebay for a tenth of the cost. Given that, Yes, the quality may or may not be the same.

According to the Quick Start Guide SG300 ' SFP ports are compatible with Cisco modules MGBT1, MGBSX1, MGBLH1, MGBLX1, MGBBX1, MFELX1, MFELX1, and MFEBX1, in addition to the modules from other brands. "

    2. is MGBSX1 way to go? Switches are in different rooms, so distance is not a problem, my choice was based on cost trancievers and media.

Choose a type of SFP based on the length of the links and the type of available fiber.  Small Business card SFP provides the information you need.  The MGBSX1 is probably a good choice, low-cost, up to length of 550 meters over multimode fiber link.

3 ports SFP are valued only Gigabit, but I saw a higher number variety quoted. Is this a limitation of the switch itself, the protocol used, or the transmission media?

Each switch is designed to support specific port speeds, based on the application of switches designed into the network.  Optical transceiver modules do not support different speeds (like many electric ports).  Instead, the switch port is compatible, the transmitter/receiver module can be swapped to change speeds.  Style SFP modules are available at 100 Mbps and 1Gpbs; Modules of SFP + for 10 Gbit/s; higher speeds have new form factors.  You can see a lot of styles of optical Modules on the page Web Cisco transceiver.

    Good luck!

  • VPN for small offices - series 2811 vs RV

    Hi all

    Need advice

I have a question about this material to use for a small remote office.

    We currently have

    • 5 users
    • 5 7941 phones
    • 1 2811 (series, 2 FXS and 1 FXO)
    • 1 3560g

All voice devices are controlled by a CUCM 9 in our main offices. The 2811 is also an MGCP gateway.

Currently, they connect via a T1, that management wants to disconnect the reason for its high cost, the T1 is connected to a 2811 (C2800NM-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M) with the serial port and analog lines, behind the router, we a 3560 G 24 port (POE) with everyone connected.

They asked me to see if its possible to pass to a VPN site-to-site and possibly replace the 2811 and 3560 g with a much smaller device might be an all in one.

I've been looking around, and I did not any small business router that meets our needs. A tech colleague suggested looking in the RV series routers, but I don't see devices providing telephone services.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Assuming you have a Cisco 2800/3800 series or better, at Headquarters, I would stick with the 2811 router and make a site to site VPN tunnel. You can actually register the phones through the tunnel and then use SRST for relief when the tunnel falls. Of course, preventing the phones to make and receive calls without the tunnel, but at least they will be able to talk to each other. If you are really worried about having at least a work phone then the internet connection breaks down at the remote desktop, you can buy a single line of POTS of the telco and run it on your FXO port. This line would serve for only emergency calls if you fall the tunnel. Nevertheless, the 2811 is much more powerful than the RV series (excluding the part on one of the models RV wireless).

  • best configuration for Small Business Server

I'm looking for advice on HW and SW recommendations for a small business.  We have 15 users, 20 computers and 3 printers.  I currently have a single Windows Server 2008.  I want to run a domain controller main for all users, file sharing, print server, possibly Windows Update Center and eventually MS Exchange.  I am trying to decide the best configuration of HW with a fairly cheap budget.   I currently have 1 I7 based server with 4 GB of Ram, several IBM servers, P4 306 m (I have 4 +), and a lot of hard drives (all in a half rack).  I also need a decent backup system.

Can anyone recommend the best configuration of HW player and hard?  Should I analyze server roles?  With respect to the SW, I'm a non-profit and use Windows Server 2008 (at a discount)

    Thank you

FIRT off, you do not have a group-access instruction set for one of your ACL. This means that you have blocked all inbound traffic. You also have your incorrect static instructions. You can start by cleaning your config and enter the correct commands, you should be able to stick to your firewall config mode:

  • Create the new virtual machine for Small Business Server 2008

    Hello

When creating a new Machine virtual and choose the guest operating system, the "Small Business Server 2008" are not listed. Just choose "Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (64-bit)"?

    Thank you

    John

Yes, it will work, and it is supported guest OS

Edit: There is a bug in the user interface for the VIC, where probably 2008 will be displayed as Vista under the toolbar of guest operating system.

  • TTS price for small business

    Hello world

As a small business, I am not the only one in this situation and I'd like your opinion on this.

My main job is Professor of computer SCIENCE, but I also have my business on the side that I use to develop interactive content with Adobe Captivate.  Most of my clients are interested in the TTS software part.  So far, everything is good and I like to develop with the software.

The problem is, as a small business (especially me), if I need to include TTS for resale, I pay the same price as everyone else.  Most of the Web site I've visited so far is not to sell for cheap (1500-$5000) just to have a single TTS voice.  The cheapest I found is Inova ~ 700 + tx with an annual subscription.

So I wonder what you guys would say to me to get a decent TTS (French) that I can integrate into captivate for resale? I do not have the budget of a large company to pay that much for a TTS voice.

    Thank you

YOU that the Captivate Developer would certainly need to have a license of TTS voice to CREATE the tutorial in the first place. But customers who buy the tutorial you don't buy need each also TTS voice licenses.

As far as I know, if you have purchased your license from Captivate, you have all the rights to create tutorials by using one of the TTS voices that come with this license.

  • Should I buy CC for small business or an individual? I'm a freelance graphic designer.

I am a graphic but I'm working on mine. I just bought the CC for small businesses, but now all of a sudden, wonder if I should have bought for a person that I have no team.

    Hi Aridne,

You can follow the discussion: membership individual vs team creative cloud where the difference between the two plans are clearly mentioned.

You can choose the one that suits your needs the best.

  • How to replace the < root windows > file \system32\ntoskrnl.exe on a system running Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server when the system does not boot without it?

I use an old server.  I've been reading that you can fix the file for XP if you have the disc but Server 2003 a 5 disk, that you would use, or would you use even one of them?

  • vCenter Server with vSphere Essentials best practices for small business

I hesitated to post this thread for fear of redundancy, but I wasn't able to find an answer in previous discussions.

I read the installation documentation for vSphere Essentials vCenter Server installation.

Is it a good idea to install vCenter on my ESXi host as a virtual machine?  I don't understand how the server can be installed as a virtual machine if she must always be on.  What happens when I do the updates of the hypervisor, ESXi (4.0 to 4.1)?  This would not cause the vCenter Server to disconnect?

Because I have Essentials, I don't have a HA and cannot migrate the server vCenter Server to another host as shown in the installation documentation.

    Thank you

It should not be a problem - if you manually perform the update using either the esxupdate or vcenter command vihostupdate does not at all in the game - if you use VUM he actually intitiates the vihostupdate order - when restarting the host to be reconnecting to vcenter once it is running.

  • This is a service I can offer for small business

I am a graphic design company to strip a man and I recently to the creative and all cloud by exploring what was available I tripped on the Digital Publishing Suite, I have watched the videos and can definitely see how this could get into some of my marketing materials clients with interactivity, videos etc.

A recent email received from the cloud team suggests that I can now produce iPad apps like brochures, portfolios, yearbooks and reports annual, which is great, but I do not fully get my head around the distribution of applications.

I get the little download on the App store, but some of my clients are very small and have a small customer base (although with the application, I would like to think it would grow) adding their technical brochure on the app store seems a bit exaggerated. What are other methods of distribution, if any, I saw bits on paid services etc. If I've restored it all together yet, but they are small companies and figures under discussion are way beyond their reach.

What I'm really looking to East - this a cost-effective service, I can offer my customers at a reasonable price. I can have this all wrong and everything I need is already available on the cloud or is there extra charges that might make it prohibitive.

    I hope this makes sense

    Thank you

Distribution must be made through the iTunes App Store, unless you want to do a very limited part in this case, you can use the Adobe Content Viewer.
