manually from VDR scheduled backup jobs possible?

Hi all, this may be a simple.  I test VDR, scheduled tasks will work perfectly. but I would first like to a backup job on demand.  There is no button or right-click options to do this? or I'm completely blind?  Thank you.

On the left side, where all your virtual machines are listed, right-click on one of them one you will see the option 'save now '.

  • VDR 1.2 starts backup jobs

    Hello

    I'm having the following problem. I installed 1.2 VDR and a virtual disk in the annex which is located in an iSCSI data store (inside an Iomega ix4 - 200 d). The problem is that check every day the VDR unit makes integrity, who succeeded, but thereafter it starts all of backup jobs that have been scheduled. Windows backup is configured to start the work of backup at 20:00 and end at 08:00.

    In the 'Reports', under 'Events' tab, the only event I have every day is a success "Integrity Check: task completed successfully" at 07:00.

    Could someone help me with this problem?

    Thanks in advance,

    I think also restart is a good solution in many cases with VDR. You can also visit [http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1019139]

  • POS backup jobs is not new VM joined resource pools

    Hello

    I just got the daily report of the electronic mail of the POS device. I checked it to find errors and I saw that some newly created VMs has these unexpected values:

    Last backup job: unknown (labels might be different because they are translated from the french...)

    Last successful backup: never

    Date of the last backup job: never

    This means that these VMs were not considered by the backup task.

    With the VDR, when a backup operation has been assigned to a resource pool, each new virtual machine to join this pool was naturally saved on the next backup tasks.

    With POS, it seems does not work like that more. It seems that we have updated the backup operation attached to this pool (Edit, Next 4 times, finishing...) so that the new virtual machines looked to the backup to the next backup job.

    So how is this? Can we have VDP automatically update his backup job to study of new virtual machines added to a resource pool?

    Mini.

    I noticed one thing is... If a virtual computer is added to the RP through c# (Thick) client instead of UCS, so you may need to manually do a refresh on the Backup tab, then run a backup that would automatically take the new virtual machines added to the list of resources

  • Scheduled backups stopped running

    Our POS device was set up a couple of weeks to run the backup job an about 12 virtual machines daily. He ran successfully for a week or two, until the VDP crashed due to a cut on the underlying data store of current. On the next reboot, he did Restore automatically and executes a verification of the integrity of monitoring reported no errors.

    But since then, the automatic calendar ceased. Nothing helped: VDP, activating/deactivating the job is restarted, reconfigure the schedule from daily to weekly and back. Start the manual backup works fine. Have not tried to delete the job and recreate it, though...

    Any advice before you go ahead and delete it?

  • Can I transfer the VDR tape backup?

    Hello. I looked in the FAQ and docs for VDR, but I can't figure out if it is possible to move the saved by VMs tape or another type of backup media.

    I understand that the 'original' store target for VDR can be NFS, CIFS or another type and that it keeps a history (deduped) according to the rules of detention, but I feel the need to move more / archive these backups off-site and for a longer retention.

    Is this possible and if so, can I use my regular backup program to back up the NFS/CIFS data store in the form of regular files, or how it is?

    All the

    Thanks for the posts - great to see so much discussion on the forums.  Some elements/clarification

    (1) given that some people have already said, VDR has no native support for removable media (cassette, DVD, etc.).

    (2) all backups are written to disk in a proprietary format of VDR (compressed and deduped)-for VDR can only read this "dedupe store.

    (3) this store of deduplication is actually a bunch of files running on the destination diskette file system - so there are a few files and since they are all resident in the same directory, they can quite transportable/backup-able/moving.  As some people had mentioned, if the destination is a CIFS share, then any backup/restore software that can 'see' these files will be able to move in the Ribbon.  For those of us lucky enough to have deployed replication technology, you should be able to take advantage of replicate the store of deduplication to another destination

    (4) the State of the VDR unit is also kept in the store of deduplication.  That means backup jobs, newspapers, etc. are preserved, as well as in the case of a DR scenario, newly developed into service camera VDR and pointing to the store of deduplication (existing or restored from media) will return the VDR unit in its last known state

    So here's the tricky part...

    (1) VDR has a concept called a backup window.  The little secret is that in addition to backups, we will carry out also "household" deduplication Bank, such as health checks and the removal of political restore points (i.e. more than it that calls retention policy).  Meanwhile, the store of deduplication is 'active '.

    (2) in addition, if you perform restorations or bring work of backup in accordance, VDR will allow these operations outside the backup window, once again the store of deduplication will be 'active '.

    So, if you don't want to save the store of deduplication, you should make sure that the store of deduplication is inactive.  The only way to guarantee that today is the VDR unit power off.

    We are creating documents on best practice VDR covering a variety of topics - we intend to come out in the next 30-60 days.

    Thank you!

  • how much storage is required for a scheduled backup, if you already have your shadow system recorded in the storage device?

    Hello

    I already asked this question but I am still confused! I have re-installed a W7-64 bit fresh in my desktop HP-computer, the first thing was to burn down an emergency start, the startup disk, and then stored a shadow/system image on a removable pocket of 160 G external support box. I have configured my monthly backups to be stored in this media storage device that shows almost 90Gs by flying over. But when the monthly AutoSave active, it stops, & I get a window saying my camera isn't big enough for a scheduled backup. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought that if you have a shadow of system stored in (an external device like mine). A new scheduled backup is just to refresh the system image w/all other file, program etc... Why do I need more 90Gs for whom? I can't afford an external backup storage, right up there:
    1. is it possible to store scheduled backups on my current internal C: drv? (I am aware of the risks). until I get no additional external storage?
    2. why, simply by making a return for which the OS is looking for new files, software etc... who need to maybe added or put to date him require more Gs to a full backup of the system?

    Hi Alan,

    You are welcome!

  • Can I use my hardrive Office for scheduled backups?

    Hello

    I am a bit confused about scheduled backups of my office. I installed an external media Pocket device that came w / my previous HP desktop to my new HP desktop. This unit has 160GBs & I used it to create a shadow of system which I understand is a copy of my entire W7 OS & all my personal files, photos, songs etc etc. I have also selected for my regular scheduled automatic backups.
    I still have 60 GBs left after downloading my shadow system & various important personal documents. Now, I get an error message saying that this device has no storage sufficient for the scheduled backup of today. Therefore, I deleted everything except the last backup (not my shadow of system and personal files.) I checked help & it explains how minimize the amount of data in a backup, backup only some files have changed since the last backup. Remove all but the most recent backups. Now, I still have 60GBs free but get the same message that my storage device doesn't have enough free space left for the new backup.
    Can't spend the scheduled backups to my main C: drive to my office? Since I have already a shadow system & a back along w / my personal files (which are only around 15-20GBs of this external device of 160GBs.) Because I've selected to back up only the changes made since the last backup, 60GBs should be more than enough to save the changes.

    I understand the importance of having a shadow of the external system to the case where my hardrive takes a dump. But isn't my office normally store the backups scheduled in its main internal hardrive (1 to). Only, I use my desktop computer for personal use and don't really need to save all that changes since the initial backup. I'm not sure at this stage if 1. I can use an external device for backups. 2. do I really need to backup on a monthly basis? 3. can't select my internal office hardrive to store these backups?
    Thank you Tech PC-savvy. are smile at my ignorance, which is fine, but seriously, it can get confusing to a novice like me.

    Thanks for posting the request in the Microsoft community forums!
    You can use the desktop for backup hard drive

    We recommend that you back up your files on the hard disk that Windows is installed. Always store media used for backups (CD, DVD, or external hard drives) in a safe place in order to prevent unauthorized access to your files. You can also consider encrypting the data on your backup.

  • Backup job Kron uses public WAN IP by defaul

    Hello

    I have a VPN site-to site between ASA (main site) and a Cisco ISR (branch) 861W that works very well; the only problem I have is when I want to save the configuration of SRI using tftp on a station in the main site, I can't because the international search report is trying to use the public IP address as the source.

    How can I fix this, so that I can manually or schedule backups to a destination in the main site?

    Thank you.

    You should be able to define the 'tftp-source interface ip' on your router to specify the appropriate private IP address.

    But the information provided by these 2 views do not match. For example, on June 26, 2013, there is an incremental backup and a backup archivelog. According to the v$ rman_status, both of them took 61 minutes (46 + 15)

    According to v$ rman_backup_job_details, backup jobs took 96 minutes. It doesn't seem to provide all the info about archive newspaper bkp however.

    When I run a full/incremental backup archivelog with it shows only as a job in v$ rman_backup_job_details.  If I run explicitly just a backup archivelog all RMAN makes it appear separately as an ARCHIVELOG backup in v$ rman_backup_job_details.

    rman_status indicates the individual pieces of the jobs.  For example, for a full backup, it shows the db backup and the archivelog.

    The start and end time in rman_status should match with $rman_backup_job_details.

    Lets take the 25th, for example:

    In man_backup_job_details

    INPUT_TYPE STARTTIME ENDTIME DURATION_MINUTES STATUS

    ----------------------- ------------- ------------------- ------------------- ----------------

    FINISHED THE INCR DB 25/06 / 2013:06:00:08 25/06 / 2013:07:58:01 117.883333

    In v$ man_status:

    OBJECT_TYPE STARTTIME ENDTIME DURATION_MINUTES STATUS

    ----------------------- ------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ----------------

    ARCHIVELOG FINISHED 25/JUN / 2013:06:50:55 25/JUN / 2013:07:58:01 67.1

    FINISHED THE INCR DB 25/JUN / 2013:06:25:06 25/JUN / 2013:06:50:55 25.8166667

    You should view your log files to see what rman was between 06:25:06 and 06:00:08 when work began at the start of the incremental backup.

    You can see that the end time is the same in both views.

    Not easy to explain but I hope that helps.

    When reading about dbms_parallel, I have seen examples where the task is running an sql statement.
    Now, can we run a pl sql also block?

    Why would you run a PL/SQL block in parallel?

    Yes, the DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE. Run_Task() sql_stmt parameter can accept an anonymous PL/SQL block as statement. For example

    --// example of passing a PL/SQL anon block as statement
    declare
      ..
    begin
            ..code..

            parallelSql := 'declare
                                    t1      timestamp;
                            begin
                                    t1 := SysTimestamp;
                                    update foo_tab set obj_type = lower(obj_type)
                                    where rowid between :start_id and :end_id;
                                    ProcessLog( fromTime=>t1, toTime=>SysTimestamp, rowsProcessed=>SQL%RowCount );
                            end;';

            DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.Run_Task(
                    task_name => taskName,
                    sql_stmt => parallelSql,
                    language_flag => DBMS_SQL.NATIVE,
                    parallel_level => 5
            );

            ..code..
    end;

    However, if you want code PL/SQL real multithreaded (no SQL), then that can be done using a parallel pipeline table function (PL/SQL function).

    So, I'll go for dbms_Scheduler thing. But still when I'm stuck on how to pass the value of date to work...

    In the example I posted using DBMS_JOB - cursor loop identifies the days of treatment. The loop then call ScheduleJob() to schedule a task of process to date. This procedure should look something like the following:

    // schedules a job to run procedure ProcessDailyInvoices for the specified day
    create or replace procedure ScheduleJob( day date ) is
            jid             number;
            dateParam       varchar2(100) default 'to_date(''$DATE'',''$FORMAT'')';
            plsqlBlock      varchar2(1000);
    begin
            dateParam := replace( dateParam, '$DATE', to_char(day,'yyyy/mm/dd') );
            dateParam := replace( dateParam, '$FORMAT', 'yyyy/mm/dd' );
            plsqlBlock := 'begin ProcessDailyInvoices( day=>'||dateParam||' ); end;';

            DBMS_JOB.Submit(
                    job => jid,
                    next_date => sysdate,
                    what => plsqlBlock
            );
    end;
