VDR 1.2 starts backup jobs

Hello

I'm having the following problem. I installed 1.2 VDR and a virtual disk in the annex which is located in an iSCSI data store (inside an Iomega ix4 - 200 d). The problem is that check every day the VDR unit makes integrity, who succeeded, but thereafter it starts all of backup jobs that have been scheduled. Windows backup is configured to start the work of backup at 20:00 and end at 08:00.

In the 'Reports', under 'Events' tab, the only event I have every day is a success "Integrity Check: task completed successfully" at 07:00.

Could someone help me with this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Warlock.

I think also restart is a good solution in many cases with VDR. You can also visit [http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1019139]

  • manually from VDR scheduled backup jobs possible?

Hi all, this may be a simple.  I test VDR, scheduled tasks will work perfectly. but I would first like to a backup job on demand.  There is no button or right-click options to do this? or I'm completely blind?  Thank you.

On the left side, where all your virtual machines are listed, right-click on one of them one you will see the option 'save now '.

  • POS backup jobs is not new VM joined resource pools

    Hello

I just got the daily report of the electronic mail of the POS device. I checked it to find errors and I saw that some newly created VMs has these unexpected values:

Last backup job: unknown (labels might be different because they are translated from the french...)

    Last successful backup: never

Date of the last backup job: never

This means that these VMs were not considered by the backup task.

With the VDR, when a backup operation has been assigned to a resource pool, each new virtual machine to join this pool was naturally saved on the next backup tasks.

With POS, it seems does not work like that more. It seems that we have updated the backup operation attached to this pool (Edit, Next 4 times, finishing...) so that the new virtual machines looked to the backup to the next backup job.

So how is this? Can we have VDP automatically update his backup job to study of new virtual machines added to a resource pool?

    Mini.

I noticed one thing is... If a virtual computer is added to the RP through c# (Thick) client instead of UCS, so you may need to manually do a refresh on the Backup tab, then run a backup that would automatically take the new virtual machines added to the list of resources

  • Follow-up of RMAN backup job details

    Version:11.2.0.3/Solaris 11

Follow the details of the work of backup RMAN, this point of view view/dyn.performance dictionary do you use?

In our store, we use the incremental update (progressive fusion). For details of the previous work of RMAN, I tried to use

    v$ rman_status

    and

    v$ rman_backup_job_details

But the information provided by these 2 views do not match. For example, on June 26, 2013, there is an incremental backup and a backup archivelog. According to the v$ rman_status, both of them took 61 minutes (46 + 15)

According to v$ rman_backup_job_details, backup jobs took 96 minutes. It doesn't seem to provide all the info about archive newspaper bkp however.

The start_time and end_time provided by two of these points of view is not math!

    Col starttime format a25

    Col endtime format a25

    Select the status, object_type, to_char (start_time, 'dd' / MY/yyyy:hh:mi:ss) as starttime,

    TO_CHAR (end_time, 'dd' / my/yyyy:HH:mi:ss) as end time,

    TO_NUMBER(end_time-start_time) * 24 * 60 duration_minutes

When I run a full/incremental backup archivelog with it shows only as a job in v$ rman_backup_job_details.  If I run explicitly just a backup archivelog all RMAN makes it appear separately as an ARCHIVELOG backup in v$ rman_backup_job_details.

rman_status indicates the individual pieces of the jobs.  For example, for a full backup, it shows the db backup and the archivelog.

The start and end time in rman_status should match with $rman_backup_job_details.

Lets take the 25th, for example:

    In man_backup_job_details

    INPUT_TYPE STARTTIME ENDTIME DURATION_MINUTES STATUS

    ----------------------- ------------- ------------------- ------------------- ----------------

    FINISHED THE INCR DB 25/06 / 2013:06:00:08 25/06 / 2013:07:58:01 117.883333

    In v$ man_status:

    OBJECT_TYPE STARTTIME ENDTIME DURATION_MINUTES STATUS

    ----------------------- ------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ----------------

    ARCHIVELOG FINISHED 25/JUN / 2013:06:50:55 25/JUN / 2013:07:58:01 67.1

    FINISHED THE INCR DB 25/JUN / 2013:06:25:06 25/JUN / 2013:06:50:55 25.8166667

You should view your log files to see what rman was between 06:25:06 and 06:00:08 when work began at the start of the incremental backup.

You can see that the end time is the same in both views.

Not easy to explain but I hope that helps.

  • When vDR to perform full backups?

I'll set up an installation of vDR test as a proof of concept, and contrary to read the documentation, it appeared on me... when vDR do full backups?  I know that the first virtual computer backup is a complete and incremental after that.  But when the following is executed?  I did some Google'ing and looking through the documentation, but have not yet found an answer.

Currently I ave the configuration of the backup task to keep 6 daily backups every 4 weeks and 1 month.  When the first full backup has expired, another take?  Also, is it possible to force a full backup on one computer virtual other than to create a new backup job?

My understanding is that VDR still to complete and never traditional backups "extra." However, given that the backup data store uses a deduplication technology each "Full" backup will only grow with the blocks changed since the last backup.

Try to use Task Scheduler to schedule two separate backups.

Otherwise, you may need to use a 3rd party backup solution.

If you want just an e-mail notification failed (no collateral) and then, when you create a job (any job) you can go to the "access" tab and click on the check box 'problems' 'Notification by e-mail to the owner '. In this case, whenever your job fails, you will get the email. For example

    Hello

I've created a few jobs of rman in my db (11.2) of the database backup.
I have my business I have to change all the passwords system (os - oracle, system, syman, etc.) every 90 days.
When I change the password for the user who created the backup jobs, this project work stoppage.

Of course after having changed their passords I always place 'Favorite powers', but it does not help.

I do wrog? What Miss me?

    Please advice.

If you use references preferred to allow a work, it uses the current credentials at the time it is distributed for execution.

This means that if you change passwords, you just need to modify you favorite of credentials

It's something that you can use EMCLI (command line interface) in a script, for example (or just use the GUI to change)

How can I do this? 1.2.1 using latest version vDR.

Alternatively, if each camera vDR can talk only to a single network share data store, I can set up another camera vDR.

    Thank you, Tom

CIFS is not a recommended destination and can be much slower. If you want an accessible destination I would add a couple of NFS shares as network data warehouses. Then add a normal VMDK unit vDR. You can do several (more than 2) virtual machine backups but as I've mentioned before that you will incur the trouble to write the cbt file for each additional backup done.

I'd do more simple a test you can against 2 or 3 small VMs. run multiple backups. Check the speed of the restoration. Decide if you can live with the speed of the restoration. I'm not sure that this is the most appropriate use of the vDR unit.

  • Using VDR 1.2 to backup VMs to iSCSI

VDR is supposed to be able to backup to iSCSI according to marketing materials.  I saw a post on 23/07/09 the same question.  RParker responded by saying that the answer is Yes and no. I would like to get a detailed response on the part of this answer Yes.

I installed VDR and 3 TB iSCSI network device is now regarded by the host as a data store works.  The VDR Configuration tab only allows me to add a "network share".  What should I do to make the VDR 'See' the iSCSI VMs backup location as data store?  I have two servers Windows and SLES 10/11 servers.  I know that to be effective with deduplication each OS should have its own backup location.

    Other issues that are important:

1 VDR will work with SLES - looks like only Red Hat and Ubuntu?  Does it matter if it's iSCSI or actions?

2 dedup will work with VDR and iSCSI or only with stocks?

If there are documents or links to other community responses that will help, just reply with the URL - no need to retype responses.  But please make sure they are clear and concise!

    Thank you very much

    Charlie

Once all your guests can see the target iSCSI as a VMFS database, add a new virtual disk directly to the virtual appliance for data recovery (max 1 TB from the documents I've seen so far). When you start the DR unit, you should see the newly added disk and be able to format and mount. From my understanding network shares 'Add' to communicate with CIFS or NFS shares. iSCSI and FC target must be added as a data store to the level of the host.

From my understanding VDR save upwards of any virtual computer either. Ideally, the virtual machine will be at the hardware level 7 and running the latest VMWare tools in order to get the most effective (dedup/tracking changes block) and the OS and APP quiecsing.

I also believe, dedup works on any target (iSCSI, FC, NFS, CIFS) VDR.

I'm still learning it and the documentation is not fabulous, above is my experience so far. I hope it helps.

-added 9/2 10:56. I realized that CIFS is the only part that you can add to "add a network share." All other targets (FC, iSCSI, NFS) must be presented to the virtual appliance as a vmdk. The VMDK would reside in the data store of FC/iSCSI/NFS that you set up.

  • Record of 312 ReadyNas Backup Job does not connect

    Hi all

We have a readyNAS we are trying to save on Dropbox.com. However, when I try to save more then a part of the second I try to backup will not backup. I have to disconnect and reconnect the ReadyNAS on dropbox and then I can start the second part of backup, but then the first part will no longer connect and save. Is there a limit as to who can I save both number of shares? Is there something missing that I have to do to save multiple shares on dropbox? I really need to understand that because we use it as a backup and if it doesn't we have to find something different.

    Thank you

    Dan

The Dropbox feature is for a single action of backup to Dropbox.

You can consider other options such as obtaining a second backup using ReadyNAS Replicate ReadyNAS.
