"Maximum vCPUs per virtual machine: 8.

The above is one of the limitation with 6 ESXI.

That means actually?

If I have a physical server CPU 4 to 16 cores each, can I connect all the processors and cores in a single machine

or am I limited to a multiplier of xCPU with yCores which is equal to 8?

Thank you!

a vCPU is a logical processor

for example

1phyisical cpu with a core: possible 1vcpu

1 processor with two cores: possible 2vcpus

1 central unit with two cores and hyperthreading: possible 4vcpus...

  • Maximum number of virtual machines by free ESXi hypervisor?

    Community of VMware,

I just installed the free 5.5 ESXi hypervisor and I wonder if the same virtual machine limits apply to the stand-alone scenario as vCenter? Can I run actually 512 VMs? What, if any, is the maximum number of virtual machines, I can run on a free version of ESXi?

From 5.5 ESXi limits most have been removed, but only a limit of 8 vCPU per VM remains. So if I'm wrong, the VM 512 mentioned for each host (see http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere5/r55/vsphere-55-configuration-maximums.pdf) affect the free hypervisor.

  • IOPS / sec per Virtual Machine

    Hello

Is there a way besides powercli to check the input/OUTPUT current per Virtual Machine. I know per LUN, but I was wondering if it is possible by virtual machine.

I agree with idle-jam, ESXTOP would be an option to see the current workloads. If you are looking for a longer time range, a tool like CapacityIQ can be useful to consider.

  • Maximum number of virtual machines running?

Is there a limit to the maximum number of virtual machines that you can run at the same time on the latest VMWare Workstation for Linux 64 - bit hard?

I think I got 26 running right now, but my computer is reaching its limits, so I don't know if I'll be able to find the hard limit by just test it myself.

It is actually the limit. There is no license or other limit.

  • Maximum virtual processors per virtual machine

I recently bought vSphere Essentials 4.0 and I'm basically happy with it. Before you buy, I was told that it supports up to 2 processors each with up to 4 cores of each.  Any reasonable person would take this to mean that you can create computers guests with up to 8 virtual processors (VCPUs). However, after installation I found I could only create machines with up to 4 VCPUs! (I take that - I can create them, but they does not )

When I brought this up to the sales representative, he gave me a few reasons that I still don't understand and then gave me an extremely expensive to get up to 8 VCPUs option: more than 4 times the price of the original vSphere. I still don't understand how vSphere can claim support up to 8 cores, but don't allow you to run virtual machines with up to 4 cores.

I went back and re-read the literature and still cannot find anything it either by declaring this limitation. Can someone ' splain this to me?  I think that VMWare owes me another 4 VCPUs.

Company is the single permit which offers 8 vcpu, they were referring to your driver's license can go on 2 cpu to 4 cores each. but I thought it was up to 6 cores per processor...

There is an entire document showing the differences, http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vsphere_pricing.pdf I know than this one but im sure that ive seen better

  • addition of vcpus to virtual machines

Ive got a few terminal servers that I suspect would benefit from additional vcpus.

right now they each have 2 vcpus. I'm running esx 41. The host itself is dual xeon boxes (hp dl360 g7s).

Can I go to the top by 1 vcpu giving each vm 3vcpus or would it be best to maintain an even number or go to 4?

It seems weird to go to 3. Will there be problems will 3 based on the processor of planning works etc? Here all the rules?

    Hello

Having 3 vcpu for a virtual machine is not a problem, and this is a valid configuration. The best practice is to mimic the underlying hardware so if you have 1x4core CPU, so for a virtual machine, I would go for 1 making virtual and 4 cores per socket and not 2 virtual socket with 2 cores per socket.

If you use the NUMBER system, it is best to configure the number of vCPUs be equal to or less than the number of physical cores on a single NUMA node, otherwise you will have higher memory latency

    Hello

2 TB is the max and also the MAX for several operating systems. If for any reason any if you need then you will need to do a bunch of multiple VMDK.

  • Correct allocation of the vCPUs for virtual machines

    Hi all

We have a physical server with 4 x Quad Core XEON E7310 1.6 GHz CPU

    VMware ESX 3.5

We have 3 VMs that are assigned to the server

VM1 (Production Server) as a result of config

4 vCPUs, 16 GB of RAM and works according to:

    OS - Windows Svr 2008 R2 (64-bit)

MS SQL Server 2008 (64-bit) (a database with the data of a line and two newspapers file)

IIS7 with only a single application of ASP .NET (the App-based eXpress Foundation (XAF) from DevExpress) running in Classic .NET AppPool (a work process)

Connection string Web Application points to the database on the same server (local)

Web app has a userbase of around 250 users

VM2 (Dev server) is the same as VM1 except it has only 8 GB of RAM

    Now 4 x 1.6GHz Quad Core CPU = 4 x 4 x 1.6 GHz = 25.6 GHz

VM1 received 16GHz (reserved) and can use available CPU if necessary.

Our problem is that when we don't have 10 users on VM1 it grinds to 80-100% CPU usage.

Usually just open the app on VM1 is slower than if I use a laptop as the server.

What can we do to improve the speed of VM1?

    Thank you!

2 things.  DISC is your problem, not CPU.  It can run at 100% CPU, but it's probably because that the e/s DISK is queued up, and thus the CPU is waiting for data.

try to reduce the CPU at only 2 vCPU, not 4.  More CPU for physical machines working, but the virtual computer without CPU more due to the work of how virtual machines (the same problem applies to any product of virtualization).

  • Number max of virtual machines using vGPU by host

What is the maximum number of virtual machines per host that can use a vGPU? Unfortunately the "Maximum of Configuration" doc for vSphere does not include this piece of information.

-> I understand that this also depends on the number of NETWORK adapters you can fit into a server. So I'm just interested to understand if there is no limitation of vSphere.

    Thank you!

The maximum number of vGPU VMs depends largely on the server platform and the number of physical GPU.  Many servers are supported GPU two PCIe x 16. vSphere 6.0 supports maximum 16 physical GPU (e.g. Four GRID K1) but not many servers support this configuration now... Most vGPU VMs we tested on a single system is 96 through three GRID K1 GPU physics with profile K120Q.
