Test of effort per virtual machine

Hello to all,

Sapete indicarmi some freeware tool che sia not vmmark per testare delle mie vm performance?

Grazie

Ciao,.

forward-looking area of che you want to provarle.

IOMeter e' ancora it massimo per verificare storage performance dello, altrimenti c'e ' ad esempio LoadStorm (not avevo scritto who: http://www.vuemuer.it/?p=1202).

SE invece above fossero a bordo applicatives specifici, ad esempio, cercherei dedicated tool microsoft exchange dedicate a testare applicatives, e che gli' poi quello alla fine che interested...

    Hello

Is there a way besides powercli to check the input/OUTPUT current per Virtual Machine. I know per LUN, but I was wondering if it is possible by virtual machine.

I agree with idle-jam, ESXTOP would be an option to see the current workloads. If you are looking for a longer time range, a tool like CapacityIQ can be useful to consider.

  • Maximum virtual processors per virtual machine

I recently bought vSphere Essentials 4.0 and I'm basically happy with it. Before you buy, I was told that it supports up to 2 processors each with up to 4 cores of each.  Any reasonable person would take this to mean that you can create computers guests with up to 8 virtual processors (VCPUs). However, after installation I found I could only create machines with up to 4 VCPUs! (I take that - I can create them, but they does not )

When I brought this up to the sales representative, he gave me a few reasons that I still don't understand and then gave me an extremely expensive to get up to 8 VCPUs option: more than 4 times the price of the original vSphere. I still don't understand how vSphere can claim support up to 8 cores, but don't allow you to run virtual machines with up to 4 cores.

I went back and re-read the literature and still cannot find anything it either by declaring this limitation. Can someone ' splain this to me?  I think that VMWare owes me another 4 VCPUs.

Company is the single permit which offers 8 vcpu, they were referring to your driver's license can go on 2 cpu to 4 cores each. but I thought it was up to 6 cores per processor...

  • Protection group virtual machines do not have consistent snapshop point in time using vSphere replication

As the title, we feel when capturing instant timestamp for virtual machines in a protection group.

Which means a group of database servers, applications, and others, when drill us test to start the virtual machines in the recovering site files timestamp in the virtual machines are varied.

Snapshot work is executed simultaneously for all virtual machines in the group when planning replication hit? Or is it because certain virtual machines (like DB) speak more time to complete the snapshot so than others like apps VM completed early?

Anyone hit this problem? We use vSphere replication instead of array based replication.

    Thanks /.

    Dylan

    Hello

It is a behavior expected with current versions of vSphere replication - replication source host Scheduler is not aware of any grouping of virtual machines and starts the replica instance to meet the RPO requirements. The decision when to start a new instance is based on the time of loading and transfer to some of the previous instances.

Multi-vm coherence is on the roadmap for a future release and will describe what exactly you address issues.

If you use VR 5.5, you may use multiple points depending on the time (JEREMIAH) and after switching some of the old machines instances (represented by VM snapshots) to match the State of the other machines.

  • Deploy multiple virtual machines from one model to the help of customization of the OS and a text file for hostname and IP

    Hi all

Not sure if this has already been answered, I did a search on the forums, but couldn't find an answer to what I'm looking for.

I want to fully automate the deployment of multiple VMs of a model using a customization file, but also to retrieve the host names and IP addresses from a text file / spreadsheet.

    for example:

I need to deploy a test environment of 30 virtual machines using the template file and customizing TestVM. I have a spreadsheet with the VM host names and IP addresses. The process now is to manually enter the host name and IP when the customization file invites to do while deploying them in each virtual machine. The customization file takes care of the rest (license key, admin password, add to the domain etc.) can I automate entry of the name of host and IP addresses in reading from a text file?

    Thanks in advance!

  • What concurrent virtual machines are launched to start the failover or failover test

    Hi friends,

What the simultaneous virtual machines are started when the failover or failover test is started?

6 virtual machines are cocurrently recovered or the number can be configured?

    Thank you.

    Hello

The number of virtual machines simultaneously recovered was 2 virtual machines per host up to a maximum of 20 virtual machines with MRS. 4.x ( http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/VMware-vCenter-SRM-WP-EN.pdf document "Best Practices" 18 States, but I have seen 20 myself several times).

With SRM 5 the number is unlimited by default (http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/srm5-perf.pdf, page 13), but can be changed (overall or specific cluster): http://blogs.vmware.com/uptime/2011/10/working-at-the-edge-of-srm-5-limits.html

  • VSphere number of virtual machines per CPU

I've seen estimates of virtual machines per CPU and I understand that it depends on a combination of things. I think 4-5 virtual machines per CPU is up around. We run HP Proliant DL380 G5s (2 quad core) and it seems like that 4-5 per CPU core will be our number. Memory being the main factor limiting.

I am now watching the servers (2 quad core) Proliant DL380 G6 and recital 72 GB of memory. Before I size like that, I want to know if the 8-10 mV by heart is conceivable. Even if I think that my current hardware could choke if I tried, I thought that perhaps most recent families of processor as the Proliant G6 Nehalem with VSphere improvements with regard to the planning of the CPU that could be a possibility.

Also, I assumed variess speed processor directly with the virtual machine by core equip. As CPU speed increses # or virtual machines by increases in Basic. Is this correct?

You're right it depends on many things, but for the general basic rules 4 - 6 virtual machines by heart for ESX 3.x and you can run no risk 6 to 8 virtual machines to vSphere, if you know that your virtual machines are use of the lamp, then pushing to 6-10VMs might do, but you should perhaps follow the activities and decrease if resources are hammering.  vSphere certainly has better CPU planning services and get the best performance from predecessor.  I test it on a test environment and the maximum stress and see how it runs.  What types of workloads and servers do you think?

  • With the help of modern.ie of Virtual Machines to test the App

I'm developing a freeware desktop application and test on older versions of Windows. Terms of the license modern.ie declare the following

    1. You can use the software for testing only. You can use the software for commercial purposes. You can use the software in an operational environment.

Although the site is intended for testing of web sites on Internet Explorer, allows to test the desktop apps as well? The app does not interact with IE in some way, if that makes a difference.

Well, I am not a lawyer, but looks like you can use it for any test you want.  You could do this with your own virtual machine running an evaluation version of Windows also.  All these expire so you can't use them constantly, but you can always go back or download a new when it expires.

  • Number of virtual machines per server: what is in the way

I've seen everything from 10:1 to 80-90: 1 VMs per server.  What is a good average, and what is a good source to cite?

How about starting with 20 virtual machines per server on average?

  • Number of virtual machines per server

This number varies greatly with the type of workload and of (among other variables) network connectivity, but what would you say is a common number of virtual machines running on a particular server (NIC10 G ) platform? 10? 20? 40? The number of sockets/cores on this server?

    Any contribution is appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hey Ex,.

This issue of $ 1 million has been requested several times before.  The answer is simple - there is no definitive answer.  There are so many variables that contribute to the number of virtual machines, you can run on a server:

    -number of Sockets
    -Core per socket

    -CPU speed

    -Density memory

    -Bandwidth allocated by host

    -Storage connectivity & bandwidth

-Attributes VM & function of workload (amount of memory, CPU & disk by virtual machine)

Although you can probably squeeze a lot more virtual machines per server with densities increased memory & CPU power, also increases your default domain name.  HA may be able to 'recover' virtual machines on a failed host, but how virtual machines are you willing to lose only once?  When sizing of your hosts, also the failover capabilities take into account.  Each of your cluster hosts should be able to tolerate the failure of at LEAST one host and meet all the requirements of memory & processor of the additional virtual machines now spread over the remaining hosts in the cluster.  This is why administrators does not often grow over 60% of the capacity of their hosts.  VMware uses a calculation of size "slot" to ensure you have adequate to your cluster failover capacity.

As typical, I see regularly around the mark of 20 VM per server on a typical 2-socket server with 96 GB of memory and dual 10 G uplinks.  It is also good to think that most software licenses (VMware, Nexus 1000v etc.) is based on the counts of socket, and since the memory is going to be your first argument point - servers that can support large amounts of memory are usually an ideal choice.  B250 is perfectly placed to virtual workloads like this, while the B230 is a little firecracker with a bit more CPU power under its hood so you need.

As vague as I was, I hope this starts your thought process

    Kind regards

    Robert
