  Mac users often ask if they should install "anti-virus" (AV) or software "anti-malware". The answer is 'no', but it can give the false impression that there is no threat of what is loosely called 'virus '. There is a threat.

Which leads me to think that it is specific to Vista only, I have a Windows 7 computer yet, so I can't speak for seven.

  Your misguided use of registry cleaners could have caused this behavior! If you ever think that your registry database must be cleaned, repaired, amplified, to the point, cured, twisted, fixed or optimized (it isn't), read http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions.

  Your use of Revo Uninstaller and the foregoing notwithstanding, applications, (Norton and McAfee) are known to not uninstall (or upgraded) themselves.

  1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

  2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

  3. click right on the file saved in #1 above, and then select run as administrator to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

  4. open IE (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 & run it in DEFAULT and modes difficulty then AGGRESSIVE. [1]

  5. restart & test (i.e. the or shortly after seven 14-10 when the next MRT is scheduled to be released).

  (And Norton) McAfee applications are known to not uninstall (or upgraded) themselves. Assuming that the trial preinstalled McAfee free was uninstalled...

  1. download the McAfee Consumer Product Removal, save it to your desktop tool: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

  4. If Webroot Antivirus with Spysweeper is installed or if you do NOT plan on buying of Webroot Spysweeper, uninstall this application, too, then reboot once more.

  5. open IE8 32 bit (only!) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 [ignore the section will APPLY to] & run it in DEFAULT and modes difficulty then AGGRESSIVE. [1]

  6. restart & test.

• Endangered malicious software removal tool?

  I have downloaded and run the tool for removing malicious software on January 8 and she come clean but today I get a message that I have a malicious virus!  Why would it be?  Also today I can't locate the "Malicious Software Removal Tool" why would it?

  The malicious software removal tool (MRT) is not a substitute for an antivirus application.  When you download it, it runs once (the MRT is not active in the background or run whenever you start your computer) and then search existing infections that he recognizes and attempts to remove them.

  After you have run the MRT, you stay vulnerable to subsequent infection of malicious software, including all the MRT having withdrawn, unless you have a separate anti-virus application with a current subscription.

  A new version of the RMT, with malicious software update information is downloaded each month on "Patch Tuesday".  If you want to re-run the MRT at any time until it is downloaded again next month, locate your computer MRT.exe.  Normally, it is located in C:\Windows\system32.

• Windows XP is provided with Malicious Software Removal Tool preinstalled?

  Referring to the following link, it seems that it is a stand-alone program, XP comes with this tool? It can be automatically updated and set the schedule to run.

  I would like to know how much time I need to run this program for the protection, I need to download the latest version whenever I run it?
