MBP memory reduced during repair work, normally?

I took my macbook pro 2011 in an Apple Store for repair work to the module screen online, with no other problem of presentation and with 16 GB of ram. However, return indicated only 4 GB of ram and the 'memory question' documentation.  This happened a few months ago, and I just noticed when my son asked why I don't have a lot of memory in the unit, and I found that he had been taken I have all the documentation, and to repair items have been fixed/replaced the repair has been made timely.

Six months before the MacbookPro repair has been run through complete diagnosis on the Apple store before going off to the 3 years warranty AppleCare, and no problems arose unless the battery is low.   The difference of installed memory was not brought to my attention, and I have the original 16 GB chips that were in the MBP.

I think the way it has been treated to be disconcerting, and feel that I am to 16 GB of memory.  Is this normal process?  I should bring him to the attention of Apple and if so, how?  I have all the documents provided to customers at the Apple Store.  I appreciate experienced users may be able to provide guidance.

A MBP has two memory slots. No doubt you have installed two 8 GB DIMM yourself because it's the only way to have 16 GB. It is now a 4 GB module or installed 2 sticks of 2 GB. Anyway they should have returned your defective or inoperative RAM for you.

To determine what is installed use  (Apple menu) > about this Mac.
