McAfee antivirus updates the computer preventing it from closing

McAfee Antivirus is installed on my Windows XP computer.  Every time I go to shut down my computer that McAfee updates the window rises and must first be downloaded. It's OK, except that updates download ever and that my machine restarts without the updates being loaded.  What should I do? Manually cut the machine?

You must contact McAfee technical support.

  • Re: Atheros LAN Driver preventing Windows from closing! Help!

    Hello

I've owned a Toshiba Satellite L655-1HC for 6 months now and have always faced this problem where if I stop or restart my computer, it'll just say disconnect then stop, then the circle of rotation would just freeze and the laptop will never restart or shutdown unless I force it to holding the power button.

I always thought that this might be a program that I installed but today, I'm really annoyed with this problem and decided to do a test.

I formatted my laptop and installed a clean version of Windows 7 Professional (64 bit), I began to install the drivers that I acquired from the Toshiba Support Web site one by one and then restart to see what was the culprit.

It was with Atheros LAN Driver v1.0.0.26. This is the latest driver available on the support section of the Toshiba Web site for my laptop. As soon as I uninstalled it, I was able to reboot normally again and the laptop worked fine.

I have the latest version of the BIOS version 2.20 installed and all the updates of Windows with the installation of ANY software whatsoever at the moment.

Please help me find a updated driver for my laptop which will not have this problem.

My laptop specs are as follows:

    TOSHIBA SATELLITE L655-1HC

    Intel Core i5 M 480 @ 2.67 / 2.93 GHz.
    8 GB RAM DDR3
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1 GB graphics card
15.6 "screen Toshiba TruBrite® HD TFT
Hitachi 500 GB (7200 RPM) HARD drive
    Windows 7 Professional (x 64)

    Thank you in advance.

  • Does not access my shared folders on the computer windows 7 from my xp pro laptop

I have an operating system windows 7 on my main pc and xp pro on my laptop. When I try to access the files on my main pc (windows 7) from my xp pro laptop wonder a user name and password. Yet when I do it the other way round I have full access to any password ect. I have set no password and tried my home group password but not yet all joy. I have 2 other laptops, both running windows 7 and no network problem between all windows systems 7. all computers are running norton firewall and are configered the same.

Would love a fix that makes me NUTS!

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.

In Windows 7, go to control panel > everything in Control Panel > network and sharing Center. Click on "change the advanced sharing settings. You do not use the homegroup unless you have all Windows 7 machines . Windows 7 network type should be 'Home' or 'Work', not 'public '. In sharing advanced:

Discovery of plug in the network
Open the files and printers sharing
Turn on the sharing section Public folder sharing
    Plug the password protected sharing

    A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, turning on window file sharing and printer as the above will take care of that for you. In XP, you can run the Network Setup Wizard or just enable file sharing / print in the Windows XP firewall exceptions. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus/security with its own firewall component program, then you're fine.  With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to the safety of any third party program or the user forums for how to correctly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

    (B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

    C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this:

Start > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).

XP - set up Windows to automatically connect (MVP Ramesh) -http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

    D. Si one or more of the computers on your network are XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

    E. create share as you wish. In Windows 7 I usually share the Desktop of the user and the Public directory.

    F. you have the job of file sharing (and tested by exchanging a file between machines), if you want to share a printer connected locally to one of your computers, share of this machine. Then go to the printer mftr Web site. and download the latest drivers for the correct system. Install them on the target machines. The printer must be collected during the installation procedure. If this isn't the case, install the drivers and then use the Add Printer Wizard. In some cases, printers must be installed as local printers, but that is beyond the scope of this answer.

  • Of product Microsoft Office updates, how to prevent them from being auto checked?

I have a dv7-3165dx, and it came loaded with a number of versions of Microsoft Office product trial pre-installed. As I do not use the product, I see no reason to get updates for them, however whenever I get a new Note Microsoft Update there are 22 updates for the office products pre-selected. http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/923100 MissCats Hi,

    1. Do you have the latest changes on the computer?
    2. You have security software installed on the computer?

    Method 1

I suggest that reset you the default Windows Update components and later try to install updates.

How to reset the Windows Update components?

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

Also check out the article below and try the steps

    Method 2

If the previous step fails, then I suggest you temporary disable the security software installed on the computer and install 5 updates at a time, to check if it helps.

Important: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

my computer is a HP Pavilion e9100z.

    Thanks for any help

    Hello

We will determine if your PC can not even boot from USB devices.  Plug the USB and turn on your PC.  When you get to the HP splash screen, then start typing the escape key to bring up a boot selection menu. If you do not see the USB device then your PC can't boot from a USB device.

If your PC does support booting from a USB device and then read this MS post article.

You always have the option to start Windows Defender from a CD or a DVD.

  • Portege A100 PPA10A - update the BIOS to boot from a USB device

    Hello

I have an old Portege A100, model: PPA10A-0002LP, but I can't seem to find this model on any Web site of Toshiba, closest I've seen is the "PPA10A - 0002 L'.

I am wanting to know if there is a BIOS update that will allow me to boot from a USB device.

The question I have is that I need to reinstall Windows, but the CD ROm cannot read disks.
This network PXE boot, but I'm new to this sort of thing and have absolutely no idea what to do here.

    Any help would be great,

    Thank you

    Hello

Portege A100 seems to be developed solely for the Australian market.
As you say it is a model number Portege A100 PPA10A - 0002L listed on the Australian page of Toshiba Portege A100 PPA10A-0002LP belongs to the same series which is PPA10A
So in my opinion, the BIOS should work too.

Anyway, I doubt that the BIOS update will add boot options.

Usually the BIOS supports booting from CD/DVD drive, drive HARD, LAN and USB FDD.
It should be possible to boot from a boot disk using a USB FDD drive.
I doubt you'd be able to boot from USB WEIRD since this Portege A100 supports an internal CD/DVD drive.
